Opinion SEGA should bring back Adventure Fields in the new 3D Sonic game (Sonic Adventure, Sonic Unleashed)

Would you like to see Adventure Fields return in the new 3D Sonic?

I think the upcoming mainline Sonic game should bring back Adventure Fields i.e. open-ended hub worlds. This was something that I really liked in the original Sonic Adventure that I was disappointed to see was left out in the sequel and more recent entries. I also think Classic Sonic should be confined to his own 2D games like Sonic Mania, which was great, but the "old meets new to save the world together and return home" story of Sonic Generations and Forces should really be this one-time thing or else it loses its novelty. I know Sonic Forces ties into Sonic Mania (they both released the same year) and I liked Sonic Mania but I think it's time we got a good ol' fashioned Sonic Adventure-type 3D Sonic game, as opposed to another jack of all trades-type 3D Sonic game. What do you think, GAF?

I wouldn't mind a hub world of some sort, but would prefer a naturalistic setting rather than an urban/human one:

I suppose it all depends on what kind of theme they go with for the new game.

3d hub in Adventure and Unleashed was horrible! There was no need for this.

Anyway, 2d or die! Where's Sonic Advance 4 SEGA?

That would be interesting too. I just like being able to somewhat explore these environments in a Sonic game and how it felt like the action stages were connected to the hub world.

I like the idea of Saturn kind of adventure field with classic Sonic. Sonic Unleash and Adventure is an easy nope for me.

Problem is, Sonic Team itself needs to be restructured(or deleted) and they need to get rid of their so called "writters"(if you can even call them that).

Nothing they try will work if they keep working like the way Sonic games are doing nowadays.

I know its not popular but I loved Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. I love the Hub world of SA1

Sonic Mania was the best sonic game since SA1&2

I wanna see Sonic Adventure 3 and even a remake of the 1st game like someone else mentioned

I only want old school Sonic (none of that lanky crud) and I want the whole game to be open world, none of that on rails crud.

It still astounds me that we never got a proper Saturn Sonic game from Sega, talk about mismanagement...Nights really didn't do it for me at all.

You've probably played it, but if you haven't, you should download Sonic Utopia, it's just a demo, but it's better than any other attempt at a 3d Sonic imo and it will eventually become a full game from what I last heard.

As much as I appreciate the effort and passion, I find Sonic Utopia borderline unplayable.
I'd hate for the official series to have that kind of control, honestly.

Sonic Team just has to replicate the controls of Sonic Adventure 2, with the level design and Adventure Fields of Sonic Adventure 1. It's there, they got it right already.

I agree the controls need some work to be good enough for a full release, but if they can fix that, then oh boy!

I still enjoyed it more than anything from Sonic Team since Sonic 2.

I agree the philosophy behind the level design in Sonic Utopia (being more open and explorable) is worth pursuing in the official games too. Maybe by alternating it to some more linear and reflex-focused sequences.

...like Sonic Adventure 1, really.
The more I think of it, the more I realize I just want a remake of SA1, even just as an "official recognition" from Sonic Team, and a place for them to begin anew.

I'd love for Sega to revive the Sonic Adventure series. They're easily some of my most treasured games and the main reason I still whip out my Dreamcast from time to time.

Personally, I think it would be neat to incorporate some of concepts we see in the Archie comic series or that kickass Sonic OVA from ADV Films. While I love the original Sonic Adventure, I feel like Sonic started to lose its way when embracing modern, urban environments.

utopia looks pretty cool, sonic generations was pretty rad honestly in terms of visual design - the chemical plant 3d zone blew me away in that, so cool. need that kind of visual detail with a full 3d open world sonic, not too many moves but can roll up anything if walls are slightly curved

i played a bunch back in the day

one 2d one made in games factory, started in a city level with grinding

and a 3d one, robo blast 2? or something similar looking, it looked like that, had a big area... went onto a techy bit after green hill.. hmm.. was more jumpy i guess but reminded me of jam

Lost World has the best 3D controls, if there is one game they need to take inspiration from, it is this one.

I would like to have several playable characters with different gameplay types. Like Sonic Adventure or 2006. Simply having Sonic, Tails and another one would be nice already. With various paths for each character, and why not, free roaming areas to explore.

This would mean a more platforming oriented gameplay, and Lost World is the right basis for this. If there is boost gameplay again for Sonic, Unleashed is the one that had the best controls and more importantly, level-design.

I hope that we get rid of the wisps as well. They should put back the special shields for Sonic, to expend his possible paths, and that's enough.

I really liked the Sonic OVA. I watched it around the same time I first played Sonic Adventure and I believe it's based more around Sonic CD as it features Metal Sonic but the music and locations and everything is so good.

I could take or leave a hub world. It was kind of fun to wander around the big hubs in SA1 but I liked SA2 way more overall. Definitely bring back the chao garden though. Honestly, for me SA2 ended up being an addictive virtual pet game with a pretty cool Sonic game as a side attraction.

I have zero confidence in Sonic Team to make a good Sonic Adventure 3, but I would love to be wrong.

Isn't Lost World kinda on rails all the time?
That doesn't feel like a Sonic game at all honestly, more like some kind of Nintendo platform rip-off.
I actually played the game ? What about you ?

Lost World is a 3D platformer. People don't want a Sonic on rail, but when SEGA make one, they call it a Mario rip-off... If it is not on rail, it is going to be a standard platformer obviously.

But Sonic Lost World is literally a Mario Galaxy dude...

Nope, I didn't play it in fact, so I'm based only on YT videos.
It seemed kinda linear and limited, but I could be very wrong on that.

Lost world's controls were terrible though. His movement was stiff, no momentum at all and fell like a rock when jumping.

SA1 to me, had the most fluid feel to sonic's movement, followed by SA2. I like SA2's additional rolling, grinding and jumping tricks with style score system more however.

Everything after has either been too floaty, too fast or on rails (minus lost world) to allow for decent level design. Sonic needs a good 3D movement this time, and I hope that's what the wait has been for.

Sorry, on topic; I would love the hub world from SA1 to return. Unleashed's hub world wasnt good enough imo. It was more like an interactive menu, whereas SA1 had integration with the main story.

No, and Mario Galaxy is literally Mad Space from Sonic Adventure 2 anyway.

Different engines, but they're common. I guess even Nintendo helped Sonic Team with that game, maybe explain why they're close in vision.

Sonic is super slow on that game and jump between 'planets' using a cannon.

You can say 'is not a copy', but they're very look like. Sonic get almost the speed of Mario in that game, is very colorful too.

This is bad guess, the game was developed by Sonic Team on Wii U.

The day when people stop conveying false information based on no gameplay/watching videos will be a day of great progress for the Sonic franchise.
