Damn, Wii version would look okay if they lightened it up a bit.
Thanks for the hands-on.The Evil Ganon said:Received a review copy yesterday (Wii-version) and I have to admit that it's a really fun game, actually. Especially the Superstars mode is interesting: you can pick one of SEGA's franchises (Sonic, NiGHTS, Jet Set Radio, After Burner,...) and play some mini-games on their respective arena's. If you pick Sonic the Hedgehog for example, there's a game in which you have to collect a certain number of rings while robots are firing projectiles and bombs at you. And in a Jet Set Radio minigame, you have to paint a graffiti figure by returning balls. After completing these games, you unlock more characters, franchises and other prizes. Great fan service.
But you can also participate in the tournament mode or play mini-games in the Game mode - which supports multiplayer too - and try to improve your hi-scores. By completing mini-games in the Superstar mode, you'll unlock more games in the Game mode too, which keeps you motivated to play Superstars Tennis.
I've played a good 3-4 hours using the Nunchuk + Remote controlscheme (there's also the possibility to play with the Classic Controller or just the WiiRemote, but I prefer the Nunchuk+Remote), which works pretty good. You use the controlstick of the Nunchuk to move your character, the Remote is used to return balls by swinging the controller and you can give effects to the ball by using the A or B button of the Remote, which triggers respectively lob shots and drop shots.
More fanservice: the game re-uses a lot of tunes from the different franchises that are present in Superstars Tennis. Cool Jet Set Radio music on the Jet Set court, beautiful NiGHTS music on the Nightopia court and 'heavy' music on the After Burner court. My personal favorite is the Samba de Janeiro theme of the Samba the Amigo court, which is just awesome.![]()
At the moment, the game feels like a solid 7+. It's a fun game, especially for those who have fond memories of the represented SEGA franchises, but the lack of an online mode just hurts the game. You can't play an online tennis match against friends or random opponents (which is possible on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3), online leaderboards are absent too. Sure, local multiplayer is fun too, but there would be more replay value with an online mode. But again, Superstars Tennis still is an enjoyable game.

I think the second you said.Lobster said:So the Ps2 version sucks or you want a next-gen review copy?

Thanks for the hands-on, can't wait.nofi said:Got the PS3 version today. Just a heads up to say it's AWESOME. If you're a Sega fan this is like heaven. Not sure why House of the Dead isn't called that, but apart from that it's fan-service taken to the nth degree. Fired up a quick match on the Samba court, heard the music, MASSIVE smile. This game is wicked, and plays just like Virtua Tennis too, although you only use two buttons for swings (with two-button combos for lob and drop shot).
Online is dead (naturally) at the moment, but there's TV mode, quick match and everything else on the 360 version which is a relief. Special mention to the JSR level too, Sumo must have had a blast with this.

McBradders said:It was so multiple Euro SKU's didn't have to be made due to House of the Dead being banned in Germany or something. So Curien Mansion it was called.
Glad to hear you guys with review copies are having fun with this, I work there and have to wait until next week to get my retail copy :lol
The guys who worked on it got theirs last week.
Damn it.McBradders said:It was so multiple Euro SKU's didn't have to be made due to House of the Dead being banned in Germany or something. So Curien Mansion it was called.
360=Ps3 > Wii > DS > Ps2 is what i THINK.Rimshot said:Gah, what version to get!?
360 / Ps3 version with HD or Wii with motion controls?
nofi said:It's awesome, it really is. Best tennis game ever, and as a Sega fan it's basically porn.
Love it.

Can a 360 game with online multiplayer even be released without voice chat?D-X said:No voice chat on 360?

Your friends say that to you?Lobster said:You're supposed to be quiet during tennis anyway..
I wouldn't play with anyone thats gonna shout "suck my balls" when im serving..
dk_ said:The Wii version looks really blurry on my screen. No 480p, Sega? And where is the fucking online mode?
No one is, just some guy whom asked if there was no voice chat in the 360 version.McBradders said:Wait, who's saying there's no voice chat on the 360 version :/
Yup, Wii version has widescreen and 480p.Rlan said:What? I thought I saw some widescreen images of the Wii version...
McBacon said:A question to those of you with the game early: is anyone else finding the "spin" characters (Tails and AiAi) really lame. I don't think they're hideously broken, but it seems ridiculous to play tennis against someone who can make the ball curve all over the place.
Do I just need more practice?
McBacon said:ALSO!
Why does the "Crazy" umpire voice just speak in a Jamaican accent and not say LETS PLAY SOME KERAAAAAZY TENNIS?!
I am appalled.
(BTW: the game is fun, the tennis system is good but so far doesn't seem as strong as VT3's and I like the progression of the game, will take lots of play to get all the stuff).
MicVlaD said:No one is, just some guy whom asked if there was no voice chat in the 360 version.
Would be swell if some would actually read before jumping to conclusions (not aimed at you McBradders).
Yup, Wii version has widescreen and 480p.

Not enough guns in this game.McBradders said:What, not even Shadow?

Give it 2 months, they'll announce a port of the original to Wii. They've announced almost everything else from the Dreamcast...McBacon said:SEGA really needs to bring JSR to 360/PS3/Wii.
