SEGA Survey: Help us make better games

i really should've pushed for Yakuza on steam too

Enchanted Castle was as fine an ending as we was gonna get man

hmm

yeah, it stings but Camelot's long gone, sadly

Sonic the hedgehog is a garbagio series, just realize that already.

It was never a good platformer.

He was never a good mascot.

The fandom is weird

so on and so forth.

Did they ask for your info at the end or is that not for everyone? They would like to hear more of my "opinions"

Yep! Not seeing VC made me feel weird, not seeing Shining made me cry.

yeah, VC was strangely absent

All you Shenmue fans... Don't be greedy, you're getting your damn sequel, now it's every other Sega fan's turn!

we've had to fight tooth & nail for like a decade and a half, man...it's not easy calming down!
there's a lotta series' id like to see come back though, honestly. TJ&E and Wonder Boy this year take a few off that list!

It was never a good platformer.

the GOAT sonic 3/K can't hear you from the throne bruh

I gave praises to Phantasy Star, from PSII to PSO.

Named three adjectives to describe SEGA:

squandered, innovative, abandoned
I really hated to type that, but it needed to be said.

I totally ripped into mobile gaming too, and not because "I hate change" but because I'd rather control with a digital/analog pad than a slippery gorilla glassed slab.

Anywho, I did my part.

Except that's not even as good as Ristar/dynamite headdy and the other platformers all which deserved fame instead of the blue doofus.

Go back to what made you great.

Blast processing.

Classic Arcade titles.

Jrpg IPs (basicaly Skies and Orta)

Stop trying to be modern.

Most importantly:Retain talent within your comapny and cultivate skilled people.

They are really asking that?

Well, at least they aren't self absorbed like Konami.

Headdy's not the same kinda beast at all, but ill respect your nods to Ristar - that one definitely deserves more love

...now im sad i didn't mention ristar in the comments on this thing

Stop milking out your fans by making Total war have like 15 different DLCs.

see this is legit but i for one wish Sonic Generations would've had way more DLC

Mostly mobile questions as expected, but they had just the right boxes so that I could say they're completely unwilling to localise any game of theirs that I actually want to play. Also no Daytona USA on the IPs list part?

Guys you're essentially answering "what games and franchises do you want to see get the mobile treatment?".

Not that I mind personally.

But at least know what you're getting into.

I foresee a thread a couple of months from now about *insert beloved Sega IP here* getting a F2P iOS/Android installment with a whole lot of tears therein.

I kind of panicked when it asked me to name my favorite Sega games since there are far too many. I was thinking of just writing Shenmue in hopes that they get the hint and start working on the remakes. Sadly, based on the survey they seem mostly focused on mobile games. At least my feedback let them know that they aren't going to get much $ out of me on mobile.

Just used this to leverage western love for Phantasy Star - also shamed mobile releases, just in case (would hate to see SEGA go full touch mobile for future western releases, given current gaming trends.)

I really hope they listen and I'm curious to see what happens with this.

Tell me about it, I had to leave some fields blank when it asked for descriptions of why I liked the games I selected or else I'd have been there all day.

I think this is a great sign: Sega needs to look forward AND backwards. I think they can do great, GREAT things in the mobile space - I just don't really think they've done them yet - but they need to wake up to the enormous market of old fans that live on consoles and would be celebratory re-releases or updates of their remarkable catalogue.

Panzer Dragoon
Streets of Rage
Ecco the Dolphin
Shenmue
Virtua Fighter
Skies of Arcadia

Like... just LOOK at that fucking catalogue.

I made desperate pleas for a new Virtua Fighter and Virtual On. Not even ashamed. Also made sure to tell them that mobile games are dog shit.

Eh. Mobile games are alright. Made sure to only list actually good mobile shit like Lara Croft Go.

I wrote in Shining Force but it's crazy that it's not even listed in their list of franchises. Sigh.

Made sure to tell them that mobile gaming can go to hell, that Sega used to be great, and that Sega games today suck, but I'm sure my voice won't matter much.

I did my part

Haha, wrote almost the same thing verbatim.

I am mentioning Shining Force 3. By god they need to rerelease it in complete form. If they lost the code dont worry...its been translated and cracked and its all available if they work with the fan community.

Also why in the FUCK have we not received any of the japanese titles starting with Shining Force feather?

Went on at length on each game's best game design features and how they translate in today's market too. Hopefully they read. If not, it was fun to analyze some old favorites and their potential in today's market.

Also listed Culdcept Saga as one of my top 3 currently played games. Take the hint Sega...we need this game to comeback out of japan! Help Nintendo and Omiyasoft out here and try to get in on ports.

Uffda, all of those mobile questions are particularly concerning. I don't think that it's impossible for them to make a good mobile game, but I don't want them chasing the casual F2P market either. A paid Shining Force of VC strategy game could be pretty cool on mobile... but I'm sure they would rather release a F2P Candy Crush, Clash of Clans, or gacha clone first.

Thanks for posting this.

I really really roasted them bad for their mobile first approach. Hope they review the feedback and take some action.

I was so happy to see Eternal Champions on that list. I think I rambled on about how much I love that game. Granted, I listed at least 20 games under "Favorite SEGA franchises," so I'm sure it probably got lost in all of my other ramblings. Mostly about how SEGA games always nail environments and soundtracks.

I also straight-up told them that I don't really care for mobile gaming (Even if Runners was good). I didn't get swamped with questions, but it sounds like that was the goal of this survey, from everyone else's perspectives.

Do they really have a list of more than 10 genres which doesn't include strategy?

I mean, come on Sega, are you aware that you own the Total War franchise?

Yeah, I checked simulation because it was the closest thing to strategy I could find there.

The hilarious thing is that, while they forgot that Valkyria Chronicles existed, they didn't forget that the Total War franchise existed.

My three words were obvious: "RELEASE MORE GAMES"

Adjectives be damned, I knew what I was putting down and I don't regret a thing.

When they list a variety of their games, they list Yakuza but not Valkyria Chronicles.

Gonna guess SoAmerica made this survey considering that.

(Though IIRC, VCR hasn't even been announced for Europe yet.)

Thanks OP!!!

I did my part, I miss old school SEGA!!!! Also please tell me other people here on GAF put support behind Panzer Dragoon and Virtual ON!
