SEGA to release something on 09.09.09!

Sonic and Knuckles XBLA :D

Sonic & Knuckles — sequel/counterpart to Sonic 3 for SEGA Genesis — is due out this September 9th for XBox Live Arcade. The best news? The game will emulate the “lock-on” technology available in the original. This means that it will work with previous XBLA releases of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Sonic 3.

Here’s how it works: If you have any of the previous XBLA Sonic games (1, 2, or 3) , Sonic and Knuckles will detect this and unlock additional options for play. Here’s what you can get:

Sonic the Hedgehog: Unlocks the game “Blue Sphere”, the bonus/Chaos Emerald level from Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Lets you play as Knuckles, complete with the ability to get to previously inaccessible areas of the game, and new power-ups added for playingas Knuckles
Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Play as Knuckles in Sonic 3, and also changes the flow of the game and connects it directly to Sonic & Knuckles, so that you can play the two seamlessly!

Sonic 3 and Knuckles deserves its place on XBLA, and I applaud Sega for doing something with the Lock-on tech.

But in some ways I see a missed opportunity. I wish they'd properly put Knuckles in Sonic 1 properly rather than just release blue-sphere. Hell, the hackers managed this ages ago.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

This is pretty much proof that Sega doesn't just want to disappoint its fans, it wants to kick dirt in their eyes and piss in their mouth. Happy Birthday, Dreamcast.

I seriously got my hopes up. I clicked the thread title as freaking fast as possible and see, a Sonic port. Fuck.

I had to

They could have put out any of their Dreamcast games on XBLA.

Jet Grind Radio
Chu Chu Rocket
Phantasy Star Online
Seaman
Space Channel 5
Crazy Taxi
Shenmue lol

Even Sonic Adventure would have made more sense.

First thing that came to my mind upon reading your post. :lol

In all seriousness though, this makes no sense. The Genesis has had MORE THAN ENOUGH lovin' recently. A Sonic Adventure XBLA port would have made much more sense, especially since apparently Sonic Adventure is not coming to Zeebo anymore...

Yeah, who would have thought Sega would do something like this!

I mean, they go through such effort to please their former hardware fans these days, it's absolutely shocking they aren't throwing big times square parties for the anniversary of the system that sunk them.

How about ports of SA1/2 with infinite draw distance, locked framerate, bug fixes, online chao garden modes, widescreen and higher resolution setup (like emulators can do), that would make.. sense.

Should've released...Virtua Fighter 3tb XBLA or Daytona DC version XBLA. Hell Sonic Adventure 1 might've been a little more fitting. A XBLA port of that along the caliber of VOOT would been fun.

Then again, I guess alot of people dont have access to S&k.

Not only did the hackers manage it, Sonic Jam for the Saturn had this.

In two weeks? Yeah, keep riding your unicorn, dude.

Also this isn't Dreamcast 2. Fuck you, Sega. I waited for you! :(

God dammit, Sega.

We need a Dreamcast re-release on XBLA/PSN on 9-9-09.
We need an emulator. Who would pay 40 USD for an emulator? I know I would, just pop in any DC game and play!

At least SEGA is doing SOMETHING for 9.9.9. Imagine all the overreacting 'gaffers who would go batshiz crazy if SEGA just treated it as another day and did absolutely nothing.

I don't think Sega fans will have any money left over for XBLA after buying all those DC2 launch titles, but whatever.

I would say even better than Dreamcast 2 but it's Backbone who fucking killed Sonic 3 so meh.
How did they kill Sonic 3 again? I think all the backbone Genesis ports suck anyways, but what was your beef with it again?

Absolutely sickening!

Dreamcast is my favorite console of all time. I was there when it launched on that very special Thursday, on September 9, 1999.

1999-2001 = the best years of my video gaming life.

Both PS3 and X360 drives (as well as Wii, since we're talking about current gen consoles) can't read GD-ROMs.

Hold up. I am going to ask SEGA one question. Why did they not add Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles as one DLC. To be honest the game is nothing but a sequel to Sonic 3. The developers could not make it in time for the release of Sonic & Knuckles add-on so they made it a new game. I remember reading that or hearing it on the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection.

Well, if they're gonna do something, it should be something memorable.
Why?

Why not remember a success, the Genesis, than the system that was the final nail in their nail-filled coffin?

I can understand why gamers really want Sega to celebrate the Dreamcast, but why don't people understand that Sega sees the whole thing as a bad memory?

Dreamcast didn't fail us, we failed it.
:(
Simple as that really.
