Sengoku Basara 4 out today in Japan!

That menu screen is so awesome. When Ashikaga throws the scroll and it turns into the character select menu, So cool! Really digging the aesthetic of this one. More so than any other game in the series.

Yeah, it's a really nice touch.

Sucksssss that he isn't playable.

Nagamasa is...so good

I don't even want to play anyone else anymore...
It's really hard to adjust to the other characters now. I finished both his routes without knowing that he can instantly level up after posing. So I started playing free mode after learning the fact and good god being in level 3 for pretty much the entire map is not at all fair.

None of us are worthy of his SEIGI.

You were right. His R1 is amazing. He's straight up tokusatsu. I love it.
when you press his R1 there are two flashes before he starts charging, if you press R1 during both of these flashes he will immediately max out his charge.

Man, too bad that I guess Ashikaga Yoshiteru is a superboss since I couldn't PILEDRIVE him into the end.

Thats weird I have managed to do full grab combos on Ashikaga I just cant put him in the air.

Yeah, it was mostly throw them into the air so I could PILEDRIVE them.

God damn it, I honestly have no idea why, but I literally can not start story mode anymore.

I select it from the main menu and the game just hangs at the sun and doesn't move past that. It's not even the game freezes or anything, the music keeps playing, it just stays there.

I can literally do anything else in the game and modes, I_just_can't do story mode which pretty much hampers my progress in this game if I can't. I'm going to be so annoyed if there's something wrong with my disc here since my PS3 can play everything else just fine.

Totally. Presentation wise, I think they put much more thought into it than in past games.

That scroll toss is really well done.

Need to get through keiji tonight so I can move on to a character I like playing more, like Date or Tokugawa.

Out of curiosity, does your PS3 make a lot of noises while playing though?

I noticed that and was wondering if my PS3 was trying to kill itself or something.

As far as I can tell, no. But then, I'm playing the digital version. Not sure if the disc version is noisier or something.

I just figured out Shibata's ability to transition from move to move using R1+left or right and man completely changed my opinion of him. He's like a one man wrecking machine tearing through stages at light speed and SOOOOOOOOOOO fun. Naotora may have competition.

afaik it's making a lot of noise because the PS3 is automatically installing the data as you play. I checked the data and it grew a lot from when I started playing and my PS3 was making a lot of noise. I haven't played more than an hour yet (way too much work going on) but I expect the PS3 to load/make less noise as I continue playing. Gran Turismo 6 also featured this way of installing (it installed stuff as you got to it in game).

Glad I'm done with Keiji. Took neither route and did the royal rumble fight with Tokugawa, Nobunaga, Toyotomi, and Ashikaga.

Playing Shikanosuke and I absolutely love his combos with Oya-san.

I really like how the weapon upgrade system works now. It's so much more flexible than it used to be.

Anyone else really like the aesthetic of the giga-basara?

Hanbei's dramatic ending is while expected still really good.
It's always weird to see the death of your character as the end of a route

Ran through Matabee's route. Boy, is he crazy and also crazy awesome. I rather like his moveset and how he has two sets if he has curved blade equipped or flying around the map. It's also pretty funny to saw an enemy, combo them to death by alternating between sawing moves or hook them on the blade and just watch them fly around the map helpless.

Magoichi is still Magoichi but still pretty fun with changing between the different type of guns. Kinda funny to see in the start of her dramatic route to be the Yukimura and Naotora stage while my default partner has been uhhhh Naotora....

I didn't know until recently that everyone has an ending for beating the game normally, besides those with drama routes and the 3 with anime routes. I think I'm just going to do that for my first play through from now on. Then use the selection feature to jump straight to their routes.

Playing as Hideyoshi:

Best Hideyoshi ever once again. Just the fact that they went and threw out what every other game has basically done to his character makes it fucking hilarious and awesome.

If Honda wasn't so fucking weird in Basara it would be my favorite Musou game. The whack is just too good.
But Tadakatsu is my fav character and MechaHonda is just so flipping out there it's too much.

I want this but it's just way too expensive ;_;
You people have fun!

You can get it for $57 on HK PSN if you get HK PSN money codes from Play-Asia ($300HKD and $80HKD). Still not exactly cheap, but less than a new game would cost in the US.

Yeah I saw the posts earlier in the thread. I'm really a "bargain gamer" these days. But goddamnit, haven't played a musou in years, it's so tempting. For a new game that's acceptable, 37€.
Heh, opening up my 5th PSN account then, DE UK US JPN HK. *sigh*

So, How does Magoichi Saika play in this game?

Pretty similar to SB3. Handgun/Shotgun/Machine Gun (the latter is unlocked after leveling up) shifting, grenades with R1, and the first super is a spinning gun attack that ends with a rocket launcher array.

Was going to wait for a bit but that ain't likely gonna happen now that you guys have hyped me up. Picking this up soon as I can home to my ps3

The tagging in this game doesn't feel as good as tagging in Utage. I kind of like the ability to tag out whenever I want, but I hate the game deciding if I tag out on the air or on the ground.

I unlocked Mogami and what the hell is up with him. lol

I never played any SB title other than Samurai Heroes so a bunch of these characters are new(as in playable) to me. It's exciting!!

Knocked through more story modes for characters.

Man the last fight in Magoichi's dramatic route is so rough. Basically a boss rush of overpowered bosses. :[

I really like Katsuie's gimmick and moveset. Once I figured out that I could dodge cancel out of his moves to keep his charges, he was pretty much spinning all over the map, so much fun.

Yukimura so far feels same old, same old. Solid but nothing really wowing me yet.

Maria's stage is such a pain.

Kanbe's stage is still so much fun.

I also enjoyed this version of Honnoji Temple as well. Pretty much slicing through screen doors discovering treasures and more enemies to combo through.

Been playing 2 player story mode with BudokaiMR2. It's great fun being able to lend him one of my story characters to fuck around with.

A lot of encounters end up being that much more fun, too.

Really enjoyed having him pop someone up just so I could pile drive them into the ground with Hideyoshi.

Delicious pile drivers.

On a scale of 1 to 10.48, how awesome is Oichi's stage in this? I loved Kanegasaki Nightmare in SB3 so I'm hoping she has something similar in this one.

Bonus question: How is Oichi in general? Are there any major differences from how she was in 3?

Oichi doesn't have her own stage anymore since Nagamasa's not dead and she also has a new sister in law to do something with.

Oichi only appears in Maria's stage and one of Ashikaga Yoshiteru's stages. I only played Maria's stage and it's ok. Kinda annoying since you have to prevent things from reaching other parts of the stage while Oichi and Nagamasa runs around and bothers you.

She plays the same as she did in Utage really. All the returning characters do.

Why is Nagamasa not dead?

The only reason he was ever really "dead" to begin with was because SB3 was a reboot and they had to focus on a small cast, and storywise they chose characters associated with Sekigahara (for the most part).

Now that there is a new game and they had the time/resources to bring him back, he's no longer considered "dead"
