Are you serious? If a game has iron sights than it is normally balanced and designed with them in mind, meaning you have to use them. That said, it doesn't look like too much of an issue in this video, and it's only on 2 (maybe 3?) weapons, I'm more concerned about sprinting...Labombadog said:LOL Some of you guys whine over some of the dumbest shit. If you don't want to use iron sights then dont use it. Problem solved.
They wouldn't implement them if they didn't provide necessary benefits (better accuracy over long distances for instance) so you need to use ADS in certain instances. That's the concern I think - that it will change the flow of the game. Usually I don't have a lot of problem with ADS if it fits but if you opt for something that takes a lot from the predecessors why fix something that wasn't broken?Labombadog said:LOL Some of you guys whine over some of the dumbest shit. It doesn't seem to be the case here, but a game having CoD-style iron sights generally means that the game was designed around the console-friendly stop 'n shoot style Call of Duty popularized. Some of us don't like that very much.Labombadog said:LOL Some of you guys whine over some of the dumbest shit. If you don't want to use iron sights then dont use it. Problem solved.
From what we've heard so far, only some weapons will have iron-sights anyway, so I don't see what the big deal is. It's not like they CoDified the entire game, just a few aspects here and there.Phife Dawg said:They wouldn't implement them if they didn't provide necessary benefits (better accuracy over long distances for instance) so you need to use ADS in certain instances. Buy First and Second Encounter, they are both worth it. They aren't that long either.Herbspicesoy said:If I want to get into Serious Sam should I just buy the latest one, Second Encounter HD?

They get to axe a specific weapon and ammo type and free up the space for something new this way. TSE's sniper rifle encouraged (and because it did jack all unless you zoomed in, required) that sort of stop-and-aim gameplay, and that's gone now. The AR lets you run and gun and snipe a little all in one weapon. From an encounter design standpoint, not having a dedicated extreme range weapon will probably reel in the average monster spawn distance somewhat from TSE's insane ranges.Phife Dawg said:They wouldn't implement them if they didn't provide necessary benefits (better accuracy over long distances for instance) so you need to use ADS in certain instances. I don't see those things making any difference as long as the enemy counts are where they need to be.Corky said:Sprint? Generic assault rifle? Iron sights? I know they're trying to parody modern shooters but I think they're taking it 30 steps too far and totally diluting their own god damn formula.

Battle across the expansive battlefields of near-future Egypt bursting at the seams with total chaos. The shattered cities of tomorrow lined with the crumbling temples of an ancient world become your destructible playground.

.Roman Ribaric said:As we've been hinting earlier, you'll fight both in city environments, as well as on historical Egyptian sites, but also in some other areas like villages, desert, underground tombs, and players will also visit some environments that are totally different than all seen before. But that shall be revealed a bit later.

Devolver keeps going on about how awesome something called the Sirian Mutilator is. You'll get some crazy guns, don't worry.Bjoern the Smexy said:- Generic weapons (what happened to the Tommy Gun? GIVE ME MY TOMMY GUN!!!)

- looks like Serious Sam alright!
- guy playing was not bad
- CoD sprint, lol
- iron sights seem pretty damn useless
- just as hectic as previous games

I see it to be more like a satire on modern days shooters.JaseC said:Iron sights are only to be resorted to when the enemies are off in the distance. However, the fact that you'll spend most of your combat time at close-mid range makes me wonder why this particular aiming method is included at all. Even in the cases where enemies are too far away the instinctive act is to simply run towards them with guns blazing. This is Serious Sam, after all.

I don't have a problem unless it is required to advance, for instance by having too much spread when not ADS.Orayn said:It doesn't seem to be the case here, but a game having CoD-style iron sights generally means that the game was designed around the console-friendly stop 'n shoot style Call of Duty popularized. And yeah, this is definitely a low quality video. Nothing new, but it certainly isn't doing the game any favors.
Could've just taken out the sniper rifle but I see your point and if they would've just taken it away others would've complained I guess. If it's not required it ain't a big deal (to me) anyway - see above.Sciz said:They get to axe a specific weapon and ammo type and free up the space for something new this way.
