Serious Sam 4 Announced

Love serious sam but honestly? I only knew that SS3 was announced and didn't know it had been released.
Shame these games get push under the carpet.

Excellent. SS3's enemies and weapons make for the very best battles in the genre, and its map layouts are, well, a lot more interesting than I expected from the series.

I want to see:
- A little more environmental variety while retaining the amount of destructable cover.
- Less ability to backtrack for items or advantageous positions.
- Save-anywhere removed or relegated to "cheat" status.
- more everything

lol, that would be one hell of an alt account

  • Better pacing and difficulty balance.
  • Better enemy AI, especially when you're above them.
  • Better placement for healthpacks.
  • Make it easier to navigate through a level. Do it through level design and not part of the HUD.
  • Don't suddenly end a level after beating a boss. I hate missing stuff when the game suddenly decides the level's over.

I think my two biggest hopes for Serious Sam 4 are:

1. Get rid of (or tweak) annoying pace-killing, gimmicky enemies like the hitscan helicopters and the witches. SS3 is the best game in the series by a wide margin despite lacking some of the enemy variety from TSE, but those enemies in particular drag things down most of the time.

Helicopters might be better if their attack wasn't hitscan (the ones in the final battle use rocket launchers; I think all the helicopters in the game after the first one you fight should have been like that). Witches are kind of okay combined with other enemies, but fighting them by themselves once you've cleared out the rest of the group isn't fun at all.

2. Increase enemy variety in encounters. I feel like a lot of fights boil down to just taking on two different enemy types at a time, and with the sheer amount of enemies that can make things feel a little repetitive. The more intense parts of survival mode show how intense the game gets when it doesn't hold back on the amount of enemy types it throws at you at once, so I'd like to see that worked into the main game.

Aside from that, like everyone else, I want to see them move away from the Egyptian theme and for the next game to get you into the action sooner (I think I like the first few levels of SS3 more than a lot of people, but there's definitely room for improvement). I'd be cool with the free save option being marginalized more too.
