Thanks to my Indiegogo campaign and private donations and fundraising, I've raised enough money to spend the next 6 months driving, exploring, CouchSurfing, and most importantly, giving $500 tips to waiters and waitresses throughout the country. At the end of the year I will have given at least one $500 tip for my brother, Aaron, in all 50 states. I'm making this thread so that you can all follow along on the adventure with me.

Right now I'm busy gathering equipment, packing, and planning. I wanted to go ahead and get this thread up because before the road trip I'll be out in LA covering E3, which means I only really have a few days at home before this entire thing gets started.

The Details...

Day of Departure - June 18, 2013
Expected Return - January 15, 2014

I'll be doing a ton of CouchSurfing and camping, so if you are a fellow CouchSurfer somewhere along my route, please add me. I'd love to bring you along for a $500 tip and get a local beer. I especially want to hear from my pals in the GAF beer community, because I want to enjoy all the local brews as I move around the country.

I remember your first thread. This is pretty great man. But do you have a youtube channel or something like that? Or dont you film every place you tip?

I do, of course. The Youtube channel is: http://www.youtube.com/sethcollins

And the primary website is: http://aaroncollins.org

If I have time I'll be setting up a website for general blogging. All the stuff that doesn't directly involve Aaron's Last Wish and $500 tips will go there, like visiting breweries and stuff like that.

I sure could use a 6 month paid vacation around the USA. Time to look into indiegogo for some suckers, I mean backers.

Guys chill. Yes it's a pretty shitty comment if you know the backstory, but you can't expect everyone (especially if that person is a junior) to keep up with every thread.
edit: Alright. Let me get my pitchfork.

Also go Seth!

Not cool I was collecting torches and pitch forks for the mass mob that was forming over his stupid post.

Good luck OP this is awesome.

I know his brother died and this was his last wish and that is great. His last wish was to give a $500 tip.

Seth was able to receive $40K in donations to do this, which is an amazing showing of generosity . What does he do? Instead of just utilize this $40K, he asks for $50k more to help him travel across the country and distribute the $40k. All of which is horribly inefficient use of money.

He was somehow able to raise the money and props to him, but let’s not pretend his brother’s wish was to do this megatiptour and raise money on youtube channels. Of course I can’t tell people how to spend their money, but if people give this freely some schemer will take advantage.

Have fun, be safe. You'll be in my city November 19th...PM me around that time and I'll let you know about good places for drinks (Theres a place right next door to me always doing tastings for local beers) and can give you a place to stay if you need it that night.

This is a fight you just can't win. Best to just let it go mang.

Ahaha, Buffalo in December.

A few craft beer places off the top of my head:

Pearl Street Brewery
Blue Monk
Pizza Plant
MacGregor's (I believe they have the most taps in Buffalo)
Buffalo Brew Pub

I'm sure there are others.

you must be just lovely to be around.

Cubanb,

There was also another donation drive to buy a better camera, a copy of Final Cut pro and a powerful mac laptop to edit the youtube vid if I remember well.

Some of the money will also be used to buy full meals; they wont just order a soda and tip 500$

Anyways I'm sure it's all detailed somewhere; and Seth has done a few threads about the donation drives previously; I can't search fron where I am right now

I agree.

But it's best to let it go as Steelrain says.

I'd suggest Fargo instead of Bismarck, ND since there's quite a few more options here as far as places to eat, but there's a JL Beers in Bismarck too if you end up there.

I think there was a better way to word this is all.

Everyone is thinkin it your just sayin it. I just wish you would have started with this over the sarcastic comment of your first post.

The Calendar (Subject to Change)
Two days in Potterville, MI? Ummm, there ain't F all in Potterville... though I guess you'll find some appreciative dining establishments in Charlotte to the SW or Lansing to the NE. Actually, Charlotte has a few restaurants that I'm sure rarely see decent tippers... nothing trendy down there; just real people.

If you like beer, Grand Rapids is a good place. My friends swear by The Hop Cat.

july 8 - 10 in STL - recommend Schlafly's for a brew pub. There is not an insignifiant of decent restaurants on Washington Avenue or near Wash U.

good luck (and subscribed).

edited to add - try Cleveland Heath in Edwardsville, Illinois. you will not be disappointed.

Somebody had to say it.

It's true. And I don't agree with others who have chimed in to say that there's no point in arguing against it. I think making a constructive argument against wasting money on the wrong charity is very important.

If you can educate people on the choices that they have, if you can illuminate the world of donations for those who don't have much exposure to it, then you can convince some people to give money to the right causes - those which save lives, reduce poverty, support the eradication of fatal diseases and produce results in the fields of development, science, and education.

Isn't the Indiegogo for $5k, not $50k? Seems rather efficient as far as charities go. And, not that I truly know, but I presume the separate campaign is to make his personal expenses separately funded from the $40k, which all goes to tips.

For the record, I've received exactly $0 from my YouTube channel. Have fun!

Weird thing Seth—I never realized before now that this was your brother and I must have missed the Indiegogo campaign. Have fun and I'll be watching.

edit: I sent a friend request on Facebook as that's something I check more often and I talked to you more just waiting in the line for the Wii than than I have most of my other friends in the last decade. ;)
