Good for him :)

I know one gaffer who will be be boycotting it now.

Good for McFarlane, but this smacks of desperation on the Academy's part.

Seth McFarlene/Peter Griffin/Stewie Griffin/Quagmire/every other voice he does to host the Oscar.

Dude can sing though. I'll give him that.

im surprisingly ok with this

I hate Family Guy but I really enjoyed TED and the guy's certainly charming and up to it

all good

He was awesome hosting the Roasts on Comedy Central, so I'd expect him to constantly put actors and actresses on the spot.

Oh, good. It's nice to have some newer blood hosting the Oscars. The go-to of Billy Crystal was getting to be a bit much.

In his interviews and on various podcasts I've heard him on he comes across as a very intelligent and funny guy.

His television shows are awful.

Some of his television shows are awful.

We're adding the Cosmos reboot to American Dad soon, so this guy gets a pass for most things from me.

Ain't even mad. Not a fan of any of his animated shows, but Ted was good. He is also very charismatic, pretty funny, and can sing. Seems to have nailed the base requirements to host the Oscars.

Guy is funny and talented.

Nice job Academy.

Also American Dad is awesome, forget Family Guy .... American Dad!

Also Ted was excellent.

I'm not fan of his work either. American Dad had some great seasons and early FG was pretty good too but all his shows are in the toilet these days. Didn't even bother with Ted. Seen him on Real Time With Bill Maher and he comes off as nice dude.

Seth McFarlane is weird for me in that I don't find him entertaining unless he's focusing his charisma into another character. It's like he needs a secondary vessel just to make me laugh. I didn't catch his gig on SNL though, so maybe he'll work out. New blood is welcome.

It still does, I can't speak for it's current season but last season was littered with fantastic episodes.

He brought back Cosmos only to have Tyson host it... what a squandered opportunity.

Huh? Tyson hosting it is the most badass move. It shows that Seth is smart.

I am not a big Family Guy fan and think Seth is very overrated, but I cannot help but like the guy and am happy to see him doing so well.

It'll be interesting to see how he handles the restraints of the Oscars he tends to rely on shock value for his jokes.

I'm starting to think that Seth McFarlane secretly made a deal with the devil after Family Guy got cancelled the first time. Cosmically, there's just no way that things line up like this for ANYBODY. This guy is:

1. A real deal geek. Not faking it. Genuinely is a real lover of geekdom.
2. Often one of the funniest/Wittiest/smartest guys in the room
3. Often one of the most talented guys in the room (have you heard his album?? It's GOOD)
4. Often one of the most handsome guys in the room.
5. And most of the moves he's made (publicly since Family Guy) have been WINS. Host a Spike Comedy Roast? He does so well that they want him to do more. Direct your first live-action movie? TED did marvelously with most critics ready to bash it. Now he's hosting the Oscars??

I'm really not trying to sound like I'm part of the fan club, because I'm not...but kudos to this guy's success.

He's charming, funny, popular with the under 40 crowd and can sing. Makes sense.

Yup. Did a good job As snl host and good acting during the skits. Will easily be able to take on this role.

Damn this guy. Went from cancelled tv series, to having 3 different series all at once, movie career, and now getting his face more public through gigs like this.

- People throwing their arms up in the air in forced disgust.

- Same people who clearly didn't watch a second of the Anne Hathaway/James Franco.
