http://www.dazeddigital.com/artsand...is-the-disturbing-new-trend-for-spanish-teens

A dangerous new trend, in which teenagers have unprotected orgies with HIV carriers, is reportedly on the rise in Barcelona.

According to several reports in the Spanish media, the high-risk activity – more commonly known as ‘sex roulette’ – has been growing in popularity across the Catalan capital. Much like Russian roulette, the sex parties are aimed at people who want to add an element of danger to their carnal connections, by inviting (at least) one ‘secret’ HIV carrier to the group.

The trend, which is apparently practised by people of all sexualities, echoes the equally contentious ‘bugchasing’ movement; where gay men actively pursue the virus for sexual pleasure. This time, however, the rules are more open. For example, while some of these orgies are exclusive only to HIV carriers, others “offer blue tablets” that are supposed to prevent the contraction of the virus. “These are non-prescription drugs in Spain and therefore bought on the black market,” French radio channel Equinox explains.

According to Barcelona’s Hospital Clinic – which is currently treating around 100 HIV carriers a day – the rise of ‘sex roulette’ has also been linked to a spate of other sexual diseases in the city; including hepatitis C, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. It has also been connected to the notable decline in the amount of young people who are concerned with catching HIV (stats reveal that 24 per cent of 15-25-year-olds are “not afraid” of the virus).

This sounds like bullshit; especially with their description of "bugchasing" being for sexual pleasure. I saw a documentary about that and it seemed to be all about poor men in NYC getting HIV so they could apply for benefits.

I kind of wanted to do this with chicken wings. Have 10 wings on a spinning plate and one of them will be suicidal flavored but colored the same as the other wings.

this sounds like one of those urban legends that news programs use to scare parents.

what's the state of sex ed in Spain? what does teenage access to birth control look like?

Why would this be real? Literally the only thing a "winner" would get is the honor of not getting an STD. How is that in anyway fun?

The media likes to pretend that hearing about one idiot doing something means it must be an epidemic among youths.

Anytime an article starts something like "A dangerous new trend among teens..." I automatically assume it's a bullshit article written by someone freaking out over something they heard one teen say to another about an Urban Dictionary article.

I mean, its not always a safe assumption, but it's served me well so far.

Fuck, man. If you want excitement, just get a serial killer to stalk the party or some shit, no need to do this.

This sounds like one of those instances where news picks up on something that one party did and attribute it to an entire sudden trend.

Bugchasing reaches it's next stage of evolution?

This is directly a result of piss poor sex education. 40 MILLION people worldwide are positive, and we act like the disease is nothing and manageable which, it is, but only if your wealthy enough to afford treatment.

The world really needs to do better on HIV education.

Ding ding

I know that this happens (uncommonly) in the gay community and it is just disgusting. I believe them when they say this is happening in some obscure areas. Why would you want to go out of your way to get an expensive, life-altering disease that'll completely change the way you'll communicate with everyone and the world?

A while back there was a thread on gaf that had a link to a forum where people with stds would hook up consensually. This included HIV. It was fucked up.

Well, bug chasers are a thing.

If you get off to that more power to you. Still an unnecessary and irresponsible thing to do.

Why would you continue to spread a virus that has caused so much pain?

No they can;t. This probably happened once at most, more likely some stupid rumour, and a news source(s) all blew it way out of proportion

haha oh man you have no idea. This is nothing.

I mean I believe there's one or two group of really rich, really stupid kids doing this shit.

It's probably not a "problem". But the fact that anybody may be doing it is still not okay.

Bugchasing is a thing in the gay community. Some people do it so they won't have to worry about getting it - they'll have it and that'll be that.

I don't get any of it. At all.

Aren't these so called 'trends' nearly always false and made up by the media off of one or two poorly understood anecdotal accounts?
