Shadow of the Colossus (PS4) new trailer from PGW 2017

Well as someone who skipped the original, this is very much a necessity for me.

You can get the original on PS3. That version is exactly the same other than having a massively more stable framerate.

My point up above was that SOTC is already a beautiful game. It's only major shortcoming on the original hardware was that it ran like shite.

This version (to me) doesn't really look any more or less beautiful. It's just different. So I'm not that excited for it because more 'modern' doesn't really contribute anything to this thing which is already a timeless classic

Not so sure about games getting the George Lucas treatment like this. I played the HD remaster on PS3 and that was great, and I'm happy others will be able to play this game, but as someone already said, a big wow factor for me when I played it on PS3 was that it was a PS2 game, which made it so much more unique and impressive to me.

This does have the same pull - something about what they've done with the graphics. It doesn't sit right.

Price is good too $40/ÂŁ30 - was hopeful of a CE but looks unlikely :(

I guess what we'll have is some LE sleeves or something which will kick digital buyers in the balls

Hey look, it's a game we all played a decade ago. Yaaawn.

Maybe just goes to show how great a game it is considered - either way you don't need to enter a thread you have no interest in with a drive-by comment like this...at least others have added something to their negative posts.

Where did you hear about this sleeve?

That's actually the problem I have with this remake - the vision of the OG dev team ISN'T being preserved at all.

I was hoping Bluepoint would attempt to do the original dev team's art style justice, but it seems they went with an art direction that looks...I dunno...like a visually nice-looking AAA action/adventure that could've been made by anyone? Doesn't look anything like an Ueda game, and that bums me out. The lighting (not just teh bloom, but the surreal style of lighting), the sense of scale, the intricate animations, etc...I'm not seeing it.

Guess I'll just have to accept that this is a Team Ico/GenDesign game as interpreted by another studio w/ a completely different style of art direction. Which is weird since the unique art direction is arguably the most beloved thing about Team Ico/GenDesign games.

Maybe this is what's exciting me even more! That's it's not a pure Ueda styled game. It's huges hints of it, but made by people that actually understand color grading better.

Eh.

I'm not saying it doesn't look great. It does.

But I mean.

Christ I played this in 2005. And then again in 2006 and 2007. Again when remaster came out.

You keep reheating potatoes there comes a point where they're just not potatoes anymore.

I played it in 2005 and never again. So these potatoes are new to me all over again. :)

If you dont want it fine, dont ruin it for the rest of us that do want this. And i want it bad.

I'm actually warming up to it. The initial reveal (last year?) left a sour taste in my mouth. But I think I'm ready to play it again. Last Guardian let me down so hard with its awful technical issues and camera problems, that it'll be nice to come back to this game that was actually good. Now let's hope the gripping is fixed, and an option to turn off the HUD, that would be really sweet.

The more i see what Blue Point accomplished with this game the more i hope they start developing their own IP one day.

Ya never played it on PS2 or PS3 so I'm looking forward to it

Looks good but can't get excited knowing that Ueda's not involved and there's no new content

I thought I read somewhere that he was consulting with blupoint on the project and do we know for sure that they will not add any new content?

This looks nice but feels unnecessary. Part of the reason SotC was so impressive is because it was on PS2.

I think I know what you mean. Part of the appeal for me with Team Ico games is that they all have a consistent "look," a visual style. This just looks like a generic Unreal engine game. Graphically proficient but soulless.

comments like this legitimately confuse me, you guys want Ueda's vision to be as unaltered as possible and yet you expect and are perfectly fine with completely new content added to that original vision?

I'll be grabbing it day one, I never got to play the original, and the HD remakes never really appealed to me, I'm actually someone that does want a bit more aesthetics/graphics to incentivise me and what I saw in the trailer looks beautiful.

I might be taking another crack at this game. Everyone says it's good, and I believe them, but...

My PS2 broke before I was able to play it, and I bounced clean off of the PS3 port because of controls. Here's hoping this is easier on my hands.

I think the theory is that the "original vision" had to be compromised in order to shoehorn the fucker into the PS2, and this could have been our big chance for Ueda to deliver his "true" original vision. I mean, we know for a fact that more than one colossus was left on the cutting room floor. Again, I'm speaking theoretically. I have no idea why they were cut. Maybe they just sucked.

Those people must be really freaking ignorant about Fumido Ueda's opinion on the matter of new colossi then: from http://www.gamesradar.com/fumito-ueda-has-changes-hed-like-the-shadow-of-the-colossus-remake-to-have-but-hes-not-saying-what/ : "In this game there are 16 enemies and there's a story about 16 enemies, so to change this history ... I don't think about changing this history. It's finished with 16 enemies." from the mouth of the genius himself.

The game is more that 10 hours long, it has more than enough content to make it complete, yes colossi were left on the cutting room floor, but that happens with every single game ever released, some content will be cut during development for millions of reasons unknown to us, the game is perfect as it is, the man himself said so, get over it.

We've got some off-screen gameplay that we filmed at Sony's press event today. Game was running in HDR (amazing HDR implementation btw) so our camera simply couldn't do its job correctly so expect some bad contrast and stuff. Still, the amount of details is staggering. Amazing work by Bluepoint for sure!

thank for the tireless work as always, great stuff. the bridge scene looks majestic as fuck.

They need to put color filters over to nail that tone. It looks gorgeous but an overly clean image is not great for every game's atmosphere.

Still, great WIP.

As critical as I am of the art direction in the remake, it ain't ugly. It looks amazing. It ain't the genuine article, but considering the original SOTC is a game made by a team with a unique, arguably uninimitable artistic vision...as an interpretation of that vision, the visuals in this current gen remake are about as good as anything I could imagine being made by any non-GenDesign studio.
