Shadowrun.com up and running [FASA DISAPPOINTMENT TOTAL]

one saving grace that they said was that this is the first of multiple Shadowrun games. So we might see something more along the lines of what people want in the future.
No. I think it's fairly obvious what fans of SHADOWRUN wanted. We wanted something that stayed truer to the source material. What do they do? "Oh, we've got this great backstory, tons of reference material. We could cakewalk through this part of it. So let's toss all that out, take it out of Seattle, and set it somewhere else. Ok, who's ready for lunch?"

Seriously. I know you have to kinda tow the company line here buddy, but COME ON. It would have been EASY to get it right the first time.

Just finished watching the full trailer.

Is this Shadowrun or Unreal Tournament
2003
(the year it looks like the game was made) knock off?

:lol why do they look like midgets?

That video sucked. Why was he shooting the dead bodies, to show how they have no ragdoll and disappear after a few seconds? :lol

This will be the end of FASA.

Well the first game that would have made me just forget the other consoles altogether has self destructed like so many PS3 price annoucements, so I'll still shopping around for the console for me. At the moment many of the titles annouced for the PC and PS2/XBox are more of what I actually want to play.

Motherfuckers...

I want a game set in Seattle. I want a heavy Native American element to it. I want lots and lots of hacking, but what I really wanted was 3rd person Action-RPG, NOT ANOTHER FUCKING FPS FOR THE LOVE OF BUDDHA.

Somebody warned that it might be an FPS but I was prepared for this. I was expecting something more along the lines of Deus Ex times 10 not this shit.

I like how he was demonstrating the teleporting feature and talking about it as if it's some revolutionary gameplay element, lol.

And wow @ the radioactive palm tree.

Really, this looks like shit. They could have given us a cool RPG experience with the franchise, and instead we're getting a mediocre looking FPS? How the hell did that even happen? Why even waste the Shadowrun title on this shit?

you shoot corpse so someone can't come over and revive that person.

Don't let Drinky read this. The last time I tried to tell him Shadowrun had The matrix in it He went ape shit on me. I still have the bruises : ( :lol

Holy shit! Magic mobile-command-station trees with healing powers! INNOVATEV FPS GAMEPLAY!

I think this may be worse than the Too Human vids. I had high hopes for this, but what I just watched is truly pathetic. Whomever was talking through the demo is now my most hated person. He sounds like a fucking idiot.

Where are y'all getting the game play vids from? The Shadowrun site only links me to some wallpaper when I go to the videos section.
I posted a video. i think it is on page one.

This game is a travesty.... an embarassment to the original franchise altogether. They would have done better just taking some off the wall universe like Rifts from Palladium and making a FPS out of that. Hell they would have actually done that universe justice with what they are doing now. That game is not only bad for that franchise, its generic as hell and the epitomy of the car wreck that I've been noticing throughout most of the E3 games this year that want to be next generation. They are all trying to be the same damn game!

Could they possible of screwed up Shadowrun anymore?

I had to take a break and sleep this afternoon so I'm still playing catch-up and I've only seen the footage and still haven't read the website yet.

But for chummer's sake, every single thing that went wrong seems like it did.

Cartoonish when it should of been incredibly realistic, dark, and mature.

Heavy on magic and fantasy and ruins when it should of been heavy on neo-cities, sprawls, and tech.

Generic and absolutely crap art design when it should of the star of the E3 show.

And worst of all, a typical FPS from all accounts rather than even a RPG hybrid, let alone a hardcore RPG.

And they're not even using the classic Shadowrun font, the native-esque "S", or the friggen skull.

Incredibly, incredibly disapointed right now.

Classics are getting RAPED this gen

Shadowrun, check
Bomberman, check
Fallout, probably
Sonic, check

I'm not exactly a hardcore Shadowrun fan (only played a little of the SNES and Genesis games), but this sucks so much. The fantasy/cyberpunk combination of the setting is so damn unique and cool... why is it being wasted on such an unambitious design?

I love this quote:

So what should we do? Satisfy fans of the paper and pencil game? The novels? The SNES and Genesis games? It wasnÂ’t a long debate, really. We decided to restart the Shadowrun timeline and grow the fiction over a series of games, allowing the world we loved to unfold over time

Well dipshit, you are making a VIDEO GAME. You appease VIDEO GAMERS first. The same people who played the 16-bit games are now the twenty somethings who buy next gen games. People who read novels and play PnP games are NOT your audience.

The only good thing about Shadowrun is the music they used in the CG trailer. I downloaded it off of the XBL marketplace just to listen to it through my stereo. Really cool stuff.

Other than....ugh. It's just a Counter Strike clone. Not what I wanted at all. I could've delt with shitty graphics if it had RPG elements like Deus Ex but fuck this. No really, FUCK THIS. It may end up playing decently but this is a total waste of the license.

When I think of what could have been given the x360 capabilities, live, integration w/ cell phones.
This game could have showcased ALL of that.

The source material is sooo huge and they are using .5% of it slapped onto the most generic gameplay they could think of.

The funny thing is that he doesn't appease ANY of those audiences with this game. They missed the market totally with this one. This game isn't even worth tracking anymore.

Biggest gaming related dissapointment in the last 10 years.

nothing even comes close to the pathetic mess this is. Shadowrun is an RPG first and foremost, regardless of how you dick aroudn in it's world just make sure it follows that first rule. It's not much to ask at all really.

This isn't shadowrun, this is a shitty unreal tournament mod made by some 13 year olds in there spare time that MS stole and just titled shadowrun. It's a goddamn mess and ANYONE associated with it's development should just quit there jobs and apoligize. Even if its a test for the name liscense there won't be a proper game made later becuase this one will sell like completly crap. There are a million better FPS titles available and NONE of the fanbase of any previous shadowrun material will like this at all.

So yay to FASA/whizkids for ruining the battletech novels and now destroying the easiest chance at a good american RPG anyone will ever have. If there is actually a god up there this'll get cancelled.

I have to agree, cancellation would be good. Just seeing anything to do with this game is like seeing an old friend, that lost their job, and their wife and their house, and got really fat....and poor....and into drugs....hard drugs. It's just sad.

If Fries was still in charge I don't think we'd be seeing this crap. The guy would either shit can it or delay it until it was ready.

If this game is a success, how likely are they to try and completey change the formula for a sequel?

I thought Che was working on Forza 2. BTW, does Che even HAVE any experience making games? It's one thing to write about videogames but it's an entirely different matter making 'em.

Maybe he's writting up the instruction booklet.

This post pretty much sums of my feelings. I was really looking foward to a scifi RPG, even if it was a FPS with strong RPG elements (a la, Deus Ex or Vampire Bloodlines).. *cries*

I've just seen the videos, and I think that it may be the biggest travesty ever, they have disgraced the Shadowrun name for years to come. Not only it looks like shit, it seems to follow of the "yet another FPS" school of thinking.

I hope that somebody from FASA or MS reads this, because Shadowrun doesn't need a delay or more development time, it needs that somebody push the reset button.

Fuck you FASA. you fucked Battletech up the ass and now you've fucked Shadowrun up the ass.

You don't need to restart shit, considering the expanse of your universes; just the unique setting without needing to play a major central character would've given you the freedom to create stories for new players without the need to piss off old timers.

Now you've fallen between the two stools, because your properties from the 80s just don't hold up well without that 20 years of additional backing material.

I just came into to say, I hate FASA Studios forever now. Fuck them for fucking it all up. You don't try to establish some modern video game presence with a relatively obscure property by slapping it on something that could never properly introduce such a rich world to the public...a fucking CS clone with just a little of what Shadowrun is. Fuckers. And now Shadowrun is well and truly dead in the videogame world. (And I'll probably buy this shit on a stick anyway...but I'll still curse your names and memorize every last name on the credits list who were in creative control of this trainwreck. And then I'll curse every name on that list in my dreams.)
