Shadowrun: Hong Kong confirmed for August 20th release

Excellent and surprising news. I got into Shadowrun only a few months ago and Dragonfall was a top tier RPG at a cheap price. I can't wait for Hong Kong, If it ends up being as good as Dragon Fall then HBS will officially be one of the best modern wRPG devs.

I really surprised they were able to pull off such a great RPG considering how they were historically a smalltime iPad developer with no history in cRPGs. Not sure where their past employees came from to get that kind of experience.

Damn this looks awesome... I still haven't played ANY Shadowrun game yet but want to get into them BAD after seeing this now :( wish i had the time....

Well, i'm gonna MAKE some time now that i think about it!

Can i just start with Returns without having to worry about anything from the very first old SNES game? Do they just share the same universe or....?

Has anyone else had problems with the dragonfall dlc? I was at the very end then received an update and my entire saved game was wiped?

I haven't gone back since because I want to know if this is going to keep happening just like it did with bf4 campaign.

I found Returns to be enjoyable if bit of a disappointment, but Dragonfall more than made up for it. I voted for Hong Kong, too :) Can't wait to play this. I wonder when the promised post-campaign DLC thingie will come out.

No need to play the SNES game, all games share a universe and have nods to each other but all have self contained stories and main cast.

Besides there is a SNES game remake mod being worked by some very talented folks, I haven't checked on it in a while so it may well be complete by now.

You can honestly just start with Dragonfall Director's Cut. The games are all self-contained stories about different groups of runners around the world. Returns takes place in Seattle, Dragonfall in Berlin, and Hong Kong in... yeah. The games aren't very long either. Returns is about 10 hours-ish tops, while Dragonfall has a good amount of content and can probably take up 25 hours or more of your time. I expect Hong Kong to be similar in length.

Hoping they show some story content soon.

Also, Returns/Dead Man's Switch isn't the masterwork that Dragonfall is, but it still has some fantastic writing(and Cherry Bomb in addition to Armitage and Harlequin).

I think Dragonfall DC is even a bit longer than that. It took me 35 hours (I'm very ... methodical when it comes to RPGs), and the peak "completed" playtime on SteamSpy is at 29 hours.

Still, that's about half as long as many major RPG releases, which I actually appreciate -- it works out well for the pacing, and makes the ~1 campaign per year cadence they have going right now perfect.

Dragonfall took me about 22-24 hours iirc, while Dragonfall DC took me about 20 hours. I did all the missions in DC and looted everything I could. Completed all the secondary objectives too. What can I say, being a total gunlord breaks the game. :)

Eh, doing something a second time you're already going to shave off a lot of time. The DC adds 3 full missions and a couple of different endings.

Hah, turns out the iPad version is the director's cut. Nice. :)

It's sad how among dozens of portraits I can't find one that I like. :/

The graphics also strike me as really poor for a title of this calibre. If you are going to use pre rendered backgrounds, at least put out some decent character models and effects. The artstyle is nice though.

I think I'm going to have to do another DF run. Just anticipating the new one had got me all worked up. Should I go mage this time? Last time I was a street samurai.

More Shadowrun can never be a bad thing. I didn't back the KS campaign but I've preordered it on Steam, though I'll likely have to wait to play it in October. That's OK as I had my fill of Shadowrun recently - I played Dragon fall for the first time in June this year.

Ok so essentially then, there's no real merit to playing Returns at this point then since DF is a better game in every way? It's not a case of the characters and story and atmosphere of Returns being worth experiencing on it's own, so that DF makes Returns kinda obsolete?

I just don't wanna miss a cool experience by skipping one game completely...

DragonFall is the better game, but if you beat it and want more Shadowrun then I think Returns is plenty worth playing for the story. I think people generally suggest going with DragonFall because they don't want newcomers to play what they see as the weaker of the pair and then not get invested enough to play DragonFall.

Ok, maybe you got that wrong, i actually did not play EITHER game yet, but you make it sound like that is a win-win then since if i start with Returns, i will get to experience that story + play the inferior game first so i can play the better one later :)

*installing Returns now*

Dragonfall has the best supporting cast in any RPG since Bloodlines.

I'm... Pretty excited for this.

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised by the cast in Dragonfall and their side-missions. Glory's mission is so great.

Naturally kickstarted this, can't wait for what will be one of the best games of this year.

Yeah, if you want to play both the nplaying Returns first is certainly the better option.

So uh, I assume backers will get their keys by the end of this week?

I need to fill the emptiness I felt after finishing TW3.

I beat Dragonfall DC and all side quests on hard in 22 hours. Spent another hour or so getting a few of the different endings. I tend to finish games faster than most people
although I feel like I go slowly a lot of the time.

Looking forward to this and seeing how the environments will differ given they don't have to accommodate mobile platforms. Screenshots don't make it seem like a big change.

I'm okay with them playing all the content close to their chest. Given how often huge marketing cycles with big games overwhelm the senses with all the "big" set pieces before a game is even out, it's refreshing to be looking forward to the third RPG in a series and not really know what to expect. :)

I'm all for not knowing anything about the game. It's Shadowrun, they learned how to RPG with Dragonfall. That's all I need, baby. So excited for this.

Probably some of the best handled kickstarters out there for games.
To be fair, that's mostly because it was more of a pre-order than an actual Kickstarter. The game would have come out this summer no matter what. Still, looking forward to it!

I'd have liked to see more of the stuff that was added due to the kickstarter funds, personally. The new art/screens of the Matrix revamp is nice but is ultimately pretty sparse on specific details and I'd like hear more about the added cyber and magic options as well. I'll get my answers soon enough though.
