halo 3 will 'kill' resistance in its first day, and the people citing 40 players as something special really need to take a step back, more doesn't mean better, pdz had 32 players so I guess pdz kills halo 3 by 2?

I was a huge Halo2 fan, and I couldn't believe that it would be surpassed by anything other than Halo3... I was wrong... Seriously, I'm HOPING Halo3 plays BETTER than Resistance does online... I love Halo, and want the most from it...

It's not just 40players, it's 40players with BARELY a hint of lag seen far and few between despite the absolute chaos going on... Jesus... Resistance is the new measuring stick for online console shooters, period... (IMHO)

Fixed.

I don't need or want sympathy. I spend a lot of my time reading books, so if someone took away my library card then I would want sympathy and justice.

If the mods of Neogaf want to engage in ritualistic self-mutiliation of the forums integrity, that their choice and they have every right to do so.

oh man i've been having a bad day - thank goodness i decided to give this thread a click! :lol

anyways...

shadowrun is a good game that will sadly be all but abandoned a few months after release even if it does sell decently

I said "wow...". Your cute attempts at niche elitism or learned superiority through citation of content most folks have to google is one thing. Unconstructive but silly enough. But envoking that in some attempt to play the victim in all this... "Wow" indeed.

The only storm brewing here seems to be your increasingly less subtle and more epic hyperbole as your supposed stoic armor of unbias continues to crack. I half expect you to start quoting Bible passages at this rate.

AS IT IS WRITTEN IN THE LAW OF SHADOWRUN, ALL THIS EVIL IS COME UPON US: YET MADE WE NOT OUR PRAYER BEFORE THE LORD OUR SHADOWRUN, THAT WE MIGHT TURN FROM INIQUITIES, AND UNDERSTAND THY TRUTH. (Brimstone 9:13)

Well I take it back then. So there.

:lol at people playing the "but it has 40 players!" card. resistance is a much more fun and competitive game with 20 or less.

if you want to throw down the free online and dedicated servers card, go ahead. but save the more equals better shit, because in resistance case - it just doesn't.

sometimes less is more!

As far as your title goes, Shadowrun may not have the reputation Halo 3 does, but I think it'll be an awesome game regardless.

Man...Halo 3 multiplayer and Shadowrun are still run of the mill generic multiplayer shooter types, from what we've seen, attached to a popular game franchise.

I don't get why people play these, but then again I never understood Counter-Strike either. I understand unique concepts like Splinter Cell multiplayer and Chrome Hounds. Those interest me. Those require actual physical tactics and teamwork with a unique blend of gameplay.

Are you saying that Shadowrun won't require tactics and teamwork? You need to do some reading up on this game...

I was reading the first page of this thread and can't believe I actually read this.

Good assumption, considering Halo 1 and 2 both had dedicated servers. You may be right on this one; Halo 3 will not have dedicated servers. I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
Does this guy play actually games? I'm guessing not, because this is some funny damage control I have read here on Neo-GAF. :lol

I doubt Shadowrun will do much for the 360, but Halo 3 might see a sales bump but I doubt it'll top last years holiday sales all that much as Gears pretty much grabbed most Halo fans and Xbox owners attention/money.

Jesus Christ.

You could have been obsessed about the game a little more quietly. You know... some of us normal people read a news bit, say "ok," and move on. But evidently your reaction is to say "I've got to show the incredibly encouraging GAF community this tid-bit of news!!! OMG"

The reason half these articles GAF has been showered with exist is only because the game is spearheading PC and XBox crossplay. It's an example.

By the way, holy shit at the thread title change, I loled.

Sony is in trouble if these games take off. They don’t even do multi-player that well yet, MMOGs are well out of their reach and they have effectively blocked every attempt their PC unit has made to work with their game platform.

FYI, Sony had the third most successful MMORPG ever released on the PS2, and unlike the 360 version, the PS2 version is a huge chunk of the userbase for this game.

:lol Shadowrun???

Has this guy not seen the recent coverage of this game?
Yes, it looks fun.

MS has all but abandoned 1st Party MMO effort
Nope, MS is developing the Marvel first party MMORPG.

The only thing they're not doing is PC-to-PS3 video streaming like the Xbox Media Player (which ain't free.)
WTF? It is absolutely free.
My answers are in bold and italic.

Third out of three.... Come on, EQ Online Adventures sucked. ATM no console has put a decent MMO out there yet. PSO is almost decent but it lacks in depth to become a good MMO.

What is better than it at this moment, in your opinion, that wouldn't make it the new measuring stick for console shooters online?
Halo 2, GeOW, R6V, GRAW2, etc etc.

What was the original thread title? :lol

We're now into the third title for this thread. I think the first was something like "Rob Enderle says that if Shadowrun and Halo 3 catch on, Sony could be in trouble" and then the next title was "Random tech guy compares Shadowrun to Halo 3, we laugh and fling poo."

Running round a map blasting each other, just to be respawned, doesn't do it for me. In my eyes, these games' multiplayermodus are overrated by definition. We'll see how good they do and help the platform though, which might be interesting in itself, despite probable lackbuster multiplayer gameplay innovation (tweaks, more like it, it seems).

Reaching far back in the thread, my apologies. But this thread is kinda off the rails anyway I think.....

To provide some context from the other side, I hate team based shooters. Here's why. I don't want to worry about what X amount of other players are doing. I don't want to worry about how my performance is affecting them, or if they're affecting me. I just want to worry about killing the bad man on my screen as fast as possible while keeping myself alive as long as possible. I like the competition and I like winning. In a team based shooter I may be carried, or dragged down by my team. Not as satisfying as being at the top of a Deathmatch/Slayer/Sharpshooter match. You know you're the best in the room then. Also alot of the negative things about online gaming in general are reduced, quitters, assholes, skill level imbalance... not as much of an issue.

So yeah, I can't wait for Halo. All I got at the moment is Rainbow 6. And people keep turning sharpshooter matches into team sharpshooter on me.

He's not counting EQOA, but rather FFXI, which still ranks after only WoW and then the overinflated Lineage 2 numbers at around half a million, last figures I checked. Regardless of the "wah this is hard and boring" whines, it's not like, like it or not, it can't be taken as anything but exemplary of the genre.

Rob Enderle is one of the most influential technology analysts in the world. You may remember his early support (prediction) that Blu-Ray will will the format war, then changed his mind in this article called Optical HD Battle May Be Over: HD DVD Winshttp://news.digitaltrends.com/talkback158.html.

Now he is wondering if Halo 3 along with Shadowrun will push Xbox 360 further ahead.
Idiot confirmed

Cross-platform play as decisive tactic in the console wars? No one will give a ****. No one will give a **** about Shadowrun as well...

Yoiu know what would be nice? Seeing Microsoft, current owner ot the Shadowrun digital rights team up with Sega or Beam Software, or in a prefect world both, to bring the old Genesis/SNES RPG(s) to the XBLA, it would be a nice cross-promotion and a far site better then a Shadown Uno Pack or the FPS game.

You guys realize that Brimstone is going to step up his whining because he won't be receiving his check from the marketing firm he's working for.

Man's gotta eat. Sadly we have to have this garbage force-fed to us in order for that to happen.

So basically Brim's been perma-Juniored?

Edit: Also Brimstone, do you or anyone seriously think that any of the 360 online fanbase Shadowrun gets once its released won't be absolutely obliterated by Halo 3 once it drops? Seems to me the only real dedicated players that will remain will be for the PC.

Maybe not permanent but at least until Shadowun gets released and everybody can finally shut up about it.

You have to love that Vista version box!

"Play with Xbox 360 Gamers"

If people were still interested in this PoS regardless of the utter butchering it's received, then that's going to be the final nail in the coffin.

I think the only people that won't shut up about it are the people that will be begging all of us to buy it in the hopes that someday.. maybe.. we will see the RPG we were all waiting for.

I have no ****ing clue what the allure would be to play with Xbox gamers. Hell I *might* of bought the game but Vista required? **** that.

Edit: On second thought the game can rot in hell for all I care, it comes out 6 days before Quake Wars..

The network is the real platform, both the XB360 and the PC are just dumb terminals.

The differences of mouse & keyboard vs. a gamepad would considered transparent. Meaning easy to notice. If Shadowrun has made those differences opaque, the ramifications for this achievment are huge.

The creation of an opaque channel for the LIVE network, makes the LIVE network the real computer, not the hardware.
