"Shadowrun will be the greatest awesome I'M COVERED IN...500 - Internal Server Error"

PS the party system is a plus but its use and the online UI is confusing and knowehere near as clear and easy as halos (no playlists just just public or private match), its a lot more group up and click public match to join any old randomness.

Well, I picked it up, and it's replaced the Halo 3 Beta for my afternoon murder sprees, so absolutely hit me up if you see me online. The dwarf is the only race I haven't really played yet. Mostly Human/Teleport/Smoke for me.

I still say this game will have more replay value than many singleplayer games. Can we get a game set up for tonight with some GAFers? I'll be on after 10 p.m. EST.

I think the 6/10 reviews are fair. I would personally give the game a 7/10. The main reason being for the money it really doesn't give you a whole lot of value. However, it is incredibly fun and I am glad I purchased it. I just can't see going higher than a 7 on the game since there will be other games (cough Halo 3) that will give you so much more for your $60. Granted, the online of Halo 3 lacks some of Shadowrun's depth...but the single player is still the main draw there.

I'd also like to say they did a great job with the bots. I was having some network issues yesterday afternoon so I fired up a bunch of matches with bots. They're not bad and I had quite a bit of fun! I guess if you're anti-bot, I would say give it a try, first. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I wrote a review of it myself:

Shadowrun Review

I gave it a nine value because, like Chromehounds, the multiplayer is where the game is at. I mentioned in the review I wish they could have added a single player element to it. But, where the multiplayer is so balanced and polished and has lots of customization, the single player truly is an afterthought. I don't want a single player in a game just to have a single player if it's not going to be as good as the multiplayer-centric version. Like I keep saying, I say this will be more of a value than a singleplayer-only game because I've already logged quite a few hours on it in the past couple days. With as much time as I've put into it, I could have beaten Gears of War. Then what? You know where everybody's going to be at and the game becomes a breeze. With Shadowrun, the game is always intense and there's always things changing.

I got lucky, the one who was supposed to review Shadowrun at our site didn't have the time to review it, so he came by today to give it to me (and I'm already getting 3 games this month, God loves me).

Anyway, I just started to play and to my surprise the gameplay is incredibly fun. At first site it seems even more fun than Halo 3 mp.

lol, yesterday at the IRC Q and A, Kimona one of the devs (I think) left the chat so I took his name, I started BS about;

"Hope you guys support us" ect.

Next thing you know I'm set as a mod, and the other devs think I'm the real deal, so I offer free games to all :lol Then tell them no, generally being an ass. I was bored.

I then decided to tell them a new map pack was coming out next month. A triology of maps for 400pts.

Everyone gets happy. ect.

I pm'ed the other mod Fall, if I should reveal the secret news about what coming next (trying to fish out something) he just replied "hehehe". :lol

I then got bored of that then left :/

I was very bored, so sorry to real shadowrun devs, Hope the game does well

Multiplayer-focused games must be quite the puzzle for today's reviewer. Suddenly taking inventory of gun names and game modes isn't enough. The eurogamer review, for example, talks a lot about value and price, but has no critique on the design of the maps that ARE there. (and what they are missing that would be present if there were "more")

Yeah, I doubt too many people are fond of the idea of you being a dick in the name of GAF.

Heyo, there's one.

I think docking points for a price point is short sighted,
If its a good game it should get a good score what about in a year when it is cheaper will the game be better?
It will be the same game, but it might have better value...which is something that attributes to some scores.

I don't think the traditional value judgments applied to single player games hold up for multi player games.

If I were to rate Counterstrike on the amount of content(not counting user community stuff) it wouldn't get a very high score, but if I rated it on game play and how much fun I've had playing it it would probably justify a multi-thousand dollar price tag.

The difference between a 6 rated game of this type and 8+ rated? Whether or not I'm still playing it a couple months from now.

Isn't value how much you get out of the game compared to how much you pay? At least that's what I've always thought. Even though there are only nine maps and two core gametypes, the game is so customizable that you could easily get more playtime out of it than most other games. It's no Oblivion, but Chromehounds rings a bell.

maybe it will be different later but being dropped into any old games with random douches is killing this game for me. :(

I've played A LOT of random games and have only had teammates a couple times. I actually dropped into one game and added my entire team, they played that well and everybody communicated. It was like online gaming nirvana. I'm getting off work at 5 p.m. CDT and should be on for a while then. If not, I'll be on at 9 p.m. CDT. Can get some games going then.

I'm so in love with the dwarf. He has 12 essence points so I had 3 minions up at one point. I'd know when an enemy was near one as the distance between myself and a minion would change rapidly =p

It's protean in nature, just like Shadowrun is protean a FPS team shooter.

From the IRC chat.

Xapan: Was there anything you liked alot, but decided not to put in?

John Howard: I already mentioned grapple, but there were a few other abilities we tried that didn't make the cut...

1 - gecko, climb any wall or ceiling

2 - spirit animal, transform into a minion-like monster

There are some bigger features that we designed but never had a chance to even prototype that we'll save for future versions or other games.

Not that those will ever get included but, spirit animal sounds cool, you get to transform youself into some sort of animal form.

I think a game that is focused on MP-only should have the bells and whistles around solid core gameplay. Shadowrun is missing a lot of content that is preventing me from buying it. (For now. I'll play the demo when it hits, and if I really love it, I may cave in.) I did enjoy my (brief) time with the game last fall, but having had time with Halo 3 and seeing the extras that game offers, I have a hard time justifying full price for this game. H3 features a lot of the things I've seen others wish Shadowrun had - split screen, avatar customization, stat tracking and lots of gametypes for starters.

I expect great gameplay from the titles I buy - Shadowrun appears to have that. I also expect $60 games to also feature a great deal of content. I appreciate the balance and design of Shadowrun's gameplay, but I just expect more for that price. I'd be much more forgiving for $40. Value:content is something I consider when buying games.

Aww man I feel sorry for the dev team....they seem talented and passionate and really into games...but this whole situation is a sour lemon.

I hate you guys. Being an elf, I need that stuff to teleport away from danger. With the tech I use, I don't have a lot left. Instead, some little dwarf runs up to me, I can't see him, then I get killed.

Counter-Strike has like how many alternate modes? Basicly none and its the world most popular online game.

By keeping the game pure in form, all players are on the same page. It's the players that make a game great, not funky odd-ball variations.

But as I've mentioned before, the style and mechanics of the CS map fun_allinone should be used as inspiration for a new map. Fun allinone is one of the most important maps made for CS and Shadowrun has nothing like it at this point. The map is like an alternate mode, without being an alternate game mode.

You might not want to pretend to be someone else from a corporation and admit it in writting.

One to grow on.

I know it's been said to death, but at $60 this really was sent to die. What a poor choice. At $40 or less, there would have been a solid base for a while playing this game despite average reviews. The videos make it seem interesting, but it's priced to high for a take a chance game.

I have to agree. As much as this sounds like fun, Microsoft I feel has really been sticking it to us hard lately with pricing, between this, the 120 gig hard drive and marketplace (guitar hero 3 songs among other examples) they need to get the message stop ripping us off. I actually have been looking at a PS3 (which I was holding off on) the last couple of weeks they been annoying me so much.

Yeah, I can see why you guys want to defend the game because it is a very fun game. But seriously...$60 for what they are giving you? No. Just look at what else is available out there and how much content is piled into that $60 game. You can't compare this game to Counter-Strike because the price difference is :lol .

I'm on your side as a huge fan of the game, I'm just realistic in realizing $60 is too much to ask. If this game was $39.99 or even $49.99 it would be doing much better! That's a "duh" statement, but I mean, seriously - MP only (essentially) for $60? I just can't see going higher than a 7/10 for that reason. That's docking it an entire point for price, a point for the depth (9 maps, limited play type; although the actual game IS deep), and a point for the graphics.

I know that I'm "part of the problem" because I bought this game at $60. But I don't want a precedent to be set.

Shadowrun is the most unique and fun shooter I've played in a while.

I'm very satisfied with my purchase. :)

It was a joke, I have come clean.

No harm meant. Also by taking a user name does not mean I'm claiming to be anyone. I don't know the guys name or status. Like I said i THINK it was a dev.

I don't mind the price tag .. but AT LEAST have a demo out for people to try a few weeks before release. The big reason for BF2's huge success was that they had a MP demo out a full month before release. By the time it hit the shelves, people were clamoring for it.

The lack of demo for a strictly MP game is completely perplexing.

"Counter-Strike has like how many alternate modes? Basicly none and its the world most popular online game."

CS is cheaper BY FAR and has more maps.

What is the point of people coming in here trying to discredit our purchases. Most of us who bought the game are truly enjoying it. In fact, I don't think there's a single person in here who has played it and hasn't enjoyed it. For everybody that's bickering about the price, just wait until it comes down and then buy it then. You won't be disappointed.

It's just a debate...I haven't noticed anything that resembles trolling (at least bad trolling) in this thread for a while now.

I bought it. I love it. I think it is too damn expensive.

I haven't reached a final verdict yet on the game, but I will say I am having a lot of fun playing it on 360. I started playing last night and didn't stop until long into the morning. The maps are pretty large and structured in such ways that there is a lot of variation on how to approach versus many other shooters that I've played.

I really like the variation in the races, though I think the humans have a bit of a disadvantage at this point. I wish they had something to make them a bit more unique other than more starting cash.

I've mostly been playing as an elf. I was kicking ass for quite a while playing an elf by rushing in from behind, using smoke magic, de-smoking to backstab with the katana and then quickly teleporting away, but then people caught on to my game and used gust against me, which puts you down pretty quick when you are smoked. Also, the differences in level design force you to change up your tech and magic choices from round to round, which I really like.

Anyway, though it is fun, $60 is steep. Previous posters are correct that $40 would make it sit a whole lot better. I don't have a problem with the amount of maps, as they are so varied and big, there's a lot there to work with. I do wish they had tossed in another game mode though for the price of the game. Something like Conquest mode from Battlefield, except with less points per map to defend, or perhaps a mode with multiple artifacts(flags) per map would have been nice. I don't regret buying it, but I can understand the hesitation. It's definitely worth trying though. A lot of people are just jumping on the bashing bandwagon here without even giving it a chance and that's too bad, because it's decent.
