"Shadowrun will be the greatest awesome I'M COVERED IN...500 - Internal Server Error"

I figured out what I find really strange about this game:

The fact that they incorporated strict accuracy into a game with such crazy movement/gliders even. I wish any of the guns had the accuracy of a halo 3 carbine / br. Also the fact that the rifle is single shot and not burst is also puzzling. I honestly feel like the SMG owns the shit out of the rifle most of the time. The sniper rifle either lags too much for me, or just plain out blows cuz I pull off many more kills with a rifle. I guess ultimately, outside of the shotgun / smg. The rest of the weapons in the game feel a little - off. I get much more enjoyment running around rezzing / treeing / snaggling. And occasionaly squeezing off a few shotgun kills.

You're not wrong. SMG is amazing. So is the pistol if you're good with it (especially against trolls...). Even with smartlink and zoom there is still a very noticeable bullet spray with very few going in the dead center.

Minigun can be amazing, but the delay of it firing is annoying. I mow down 2-3 elves in a single round at times if I catch them in the open.

I hope some more people buy/rent it soon. Matchmaking often puts me in the same room several times consecutively and that can't be a good thing :/ And my preferences are not restrictive at all.

Please somebody add me as a friend. I have a problem connecting to games, and I really love to play this game.

Also, I'm not sure if I've mentioned it before, but my gamertag on live is "Darkest Ancient" so someone add me and invite me to some games. I'll be playing it pretty heavily for a bit I think though I may dabble back into Warhawk Beta now and then. If it makes any difference, I usually run a Troll with SMG/Minigun or Katana, Gust, Smartlink, and Tree of Life.

Speaking of Tree of Life I had an awesome moment on Poco (small) earlier this evening. It was 4 on 4 and I was the only guy left on the team vs. 3 of them. So, I went to that very low area with the flickering fire from a car or something. It has a left and right entrance and a ladder in front, but they aren't wide open. I set up 2 trees and sat in the middle and mowed them down with an SMG as they came as I just hardened and the trees took over. The elf and the human came at one time and died then the Dwarf, who would have ruined everything, came last and solo so his power drain wasn't really an issue. Awesome.

I'm tired of having to hope I get teammates with a brain, or having them "re-balanced" and losing an awesome healer and getting gutter trash from the other side. As a Troll it really isn't practical for me to resurrect or get Tree of Life super early.

I'm still waiting for the PC demo. If the game tinkers in any way with the FPS controls, e.g. lowering accuracy, smoothing or interfering with the mouse, or doesn't reward precision (headshots) I won't buy it.
Else I'll go and hunt me some stupid console players.

Played aganist some of the beta testers tonight. There was one guy playing as a troll that was getting 20+ kills.

You realize it's supposed to be annoying simply because it's amazing, right? You're not supposed to be this huge harvester of bodies with 600 kills per round just because you got a minigun.

With that said, though, just walk around and rev it up 'til you hear the highest pitch noise it makes and then let go, repeat until someone walks into your line of fire and then don't let go. Dead enemy, especially with a troll with smartlink (the auto-aim he gets with the minigun is ****ing ridiculous).

Personally, I love all of the weapons. They're all awesome in the appropriate situation. I've never felt that way about the game before. Too bad the rocket launcher is a useless piece of shit, though. How did they not notice that the rocket travels at a pace that is insanely out of synch with the pace of the rest of the game? Nobody everrrrrrr stands around long enough to get hit by a rocket, not even snipers or people trying to heal by a tree and not even if you masterfully sneak up behind them. This is twitch gaming and a snail rocket is just retarded here. No clue how that got in the game when everything else seems to play-tested and balanced to perfection. Not looking forward to getting 100 kills with it. :(

the launcher is a great seconday weapon , just got to know how to use it .

Last night there were 3 guys next to a tree of life , my friend went in with his elf and they started firing , i told him to use smoke and I shot a rocket at them from behind . 3 dead trolls and my friend de-smoked and went to the tree to heal .

All the weapons have their pros and cons. I believe the launcher blast is the same as 4 nades going off so its very powerfull

Yeah, um, I've had lucky shots that killed several opponents too. But there's no way you're about to tell me you pull that off consistently or often, and there's no way you'll make me believe that you planned that 100% and actually knew for sure that they weren't going to teleport/glide/jump/run (with wired reflexes)/etc.

You fired and hoped for the best, just as I do, and that's not a very fun weapon. Actually, I guess that's what it's supposed to be. Something you buy when you're rich and have nothing else you really want to buy, so you carry the RL around and hope for the best...but I don't understand how they realized that gust/strangle kills are frustrating and set the achievements at only 5 kills for those, but still went with 100 kills with the RL! 5 gust kills is like 5000% easier than 100 RL kills. Like I said, the biggest instance of completely lost balance in this game.

AHH I am so mad I can't get into a public game 9 out of 10 times I hope they fix it cause I really like the game.

You should probably run a connection test from the dashboard and make sure your NAT is Open and not Strict or Moderate.

I am on Vista and I run my PC in DMZ when I play games so I know it is not a firewall issue. Besides it is a known issue by the devs on the Shadowrun forums, I just hope it gets fixed soon.

Currently the Shadowrun matchmaking servers seem to have a lot of problems. A lot of people are complaining about very long matchmaking times, sometimes 30+ minutes.

The longest it's ever taken me to find a game is 12 minutes.

I don't mind though because I only have to do matchmaking once to play. It's not like Halo where you have to go searching for games every 10 minutes.

I hate Katana users.

I did too until I discovered the nuaces of smoke, gust, and the shotgun. I used to hope that I didn't run into katana wielding elf, now I WISH to run into a katana wielding elf! :D

That's what makes this game so friggin' awesome. If you take a step back and actually think about strategies you can do some awesome stuff. Once you get used to the game and stop thinking of it in terms of a conventional FPS and get your creative juices flowing you wuill have some awesome experiences.

Example, in one game there was this guy playing the basic troll archetype. He had a smart gun link and a mingun holding down the flag capture point. Now in a regular game he would be dug in and well fortified and you'd get mad at his camping @$$. But coordinating with my team I teleported right behind him, and stood close so that my dwarf drained his essence. So with the essence drain, his skin couldn't harden and he was a sitting duck for the combined onslaught of several teammates. By the time he figured out what was going on I used smoke to re-position myself and stay clear of the minigun. Then for giggles I materialized and finished him off with my shotgun at point blank range. Seeing this little dwarf standing over the behemoth corpse of the troll had me in stitches with laughter. You get together with a cohesive team and this game truly rocks!

If you're creative with the abilities that are in the game and coordinate and communicate with your team.....WOW! You've got to give FASA props on this game. It's too bad that they're in dire straits, I could easily see DLC keeping this title around well into the XBox360 life cycle.

I'm loving this game. It's exciting, and the magic/tech really puts a spin on multiplayer. I have a question though, do you guys have any advice on how to take down Trolls easily? I was playing last night and the other team had a troll/minigun/ combo and he was totally mowing all of us down. Any suggestions would be awesome, thanks.

See my post right above your original. Troll aren't that bad once you know how to deal with them. ;)

Wow. I wonder what this game is like online. I feel like i wasted my rental (it was a free rental but what if i had paid???)

i cannot get one match online. Not one. Not once has it connected for me. Well.. it did connect but then it said the game was full :confused. This whole thing is horrible and i feel sorry for those who paid $60 for the game and feel that Searching screen.

Man I don't know. I've been playing against some expert ninjas that give me a really hard time teleporting everywhere, running away, then coming back when I least expect it to slash me in the back and kill me :lol

I can easily destroy novice katana users but the ones who play mind games piss me off >:-(

Are the bots any fun to play against? Are they customizable in any way (or at least have difficulty settings)?
They're decent. I was playing offline one day on the dig site and the enemy bot team set up a base camp at the capture point behind where my entire team was hiding before even making a move towars the artifact.

There's 5 difficulty settings for the bots as well

They should add death match, cuz it can be so frustrating at times. I mean, dwarves never win, but when you've killed 'em, you've got no essence left so someone else will kill you :(

I played with some Gaffers against a bunch of bots on hard. We won the first game and then proceeded to get our asses handed to us, over and over. There's one more level after hard, too.

Ever tried Antimagic? It supposedly will mess up teleports near it, and, of course, it will suck the essence right out of them.

I'm not sure why there's people running around saying there's no deathmatch mode. Is it because it's not called "kill everybody" or some variation thereof? Deathmatch in Shadowrun is called "attrition."

Yes, it still has the artifact, but it only works as a radar and there's no dropping it off.

I agree. And I love Attrition! best part of the game imho

Rly? Never played that, I'll give it a try. (but no respawns right?)

It's team deathmatch, no respawns. Artifact in the middle of the map acts as a radar for whoever picks it up, also if you are holding the artifact when the timer runs out your team gets the win regardless of the kill score.

The big difference between it and the CTF modes is that corpses can't be destroyed in Attrition so you get tons of res's going on.

Schafer said:

I think that aspect of it is pretty lame. It's pretty easy for the last person on a team to sneak away and grab the artifact while everybody else is busy trying to take each other down near the end of a round. NOT having to watch the artifact constantly is supposed to be what the game mode is all about...

err I fire and hope for the best with every weapon in the game.

I planed my shot and it worked.

I would never use my launcher as my main weapon . Its normaly on my back while i'm running around with a shotty .

As for the achievements well one takes much more skill and will keep you going for the achievements much longer

I keep hearing good things about this game so I'm going to rent it.

There's no use in playing anything else on Xbox Live after the Halo 3 beta ends anyway. Gears of war is a disaster.

And I don't like anything else.

So I'm going to give Shadowrun a shot.
