Share your stories of buying BC-less systems day 1

I didn't care about backwards compatibility until console makers starting using it.

Stopped caring about it when Emulators came about. Being able to put a PS2 disc in my PC and play it? Who needs BC?

Could you imagine a Dreamcast that could run Saturn games though? That would have been awesome.
Can you put your PS3 discs in your PC and play it? Because you sure hell can't in the PS4.

I guess the day-one systems I've purchased that weren't backwards compatible (and assuming there was a "backwards") were:

SNES
N64
Gamecube
Dreamcast

Never cared on any of them. Usually backwards compatibility brings some issues with it, not 100% compatibility, increases the price of new systems to buy something I already have, my old systems still worked fine, etc. Never was burned by the lack of it.

But then you started playing Super Stardust Delta and all your sadness was washed away.

Oh yes! We had some epic scorechasing on that. Hehehe Sometimes I still fire it up and give it an half assed attempt to beat you and fail miserably. ;)

This is my story:

I buy a new console and a game or two, and I play the new games. For the most part, I'm instantly uninterested in playing games on the older system. I eventually get rid of the old system, if I haven't already, and my world moves on.

Bought the PS2 day one, the only PS1 game I played with it was FFIX, which was released after the launch.

Bought the PS3 with BC in November 2007, and it died in August 2012. The only PS1/2 games I've replayed with it have been RE2 and SH3. Well, I would have played the first SSX also, but it didn't work properly on the EU launch unit.

So, for me personally BC isn't mandatory. Of course it would be more convenient to be able to play the PS3 games on PS4, as I don't really have space to keep two consoles on my small shelf. But looking at the past, I don't tend to play the games of the previous generation that much after the next one has launched.

Huh. I just realized that among said systems (PS1, N64, XBOX, GC), I didn't buy any at launch, save the N64 (for Mario 64).

Huh.

I bought a PS3 day one, which included BC. But I still had my PS2 and never used any PS2 game on the PS3... I will not get rid of my PS3 when (if) I get a PS4, so no BC is not a problem for me. Doubt that I will get the PS4 day one though.

what a weird way to make a distinction between consoles, as if the advent of BC was some huge revolution...you're basically saying, "share your stories about buying consoles before 2000."
