Shawn Elliot addressing AI concerns from VGAs BioShock Infinite trailer

Wait, people on GAF over-analyzed and unfairly critiqued something that they don't know anything about?

I'm shocked. Shocked.

No, people have commented off what they're seeing and not what they're hearing.

I don't really care what this enemy is "focused" on, you're in front of it and it just runs straight doing absolutely nothing.

I only saw the trailer this morning. I think lots of people are prone to criticize this too hastily.

Those guys are dressed like demons and they weild rocket launchers. I assumed they were heavy types or late game enemies.

As for the enemy moving forward in the gif: he has a rocket launcher. If he fires at that close range he will be engulfed in the blast. So instead he's probably get close enough to Booker to engage in melee, only then the murder of crows drops him.

So one of their Level Designers never saw a big reveal WORLD EXCLUSIVE trailer BEFORE it went to the VGA's?

I dont know, if I was working on something for years of my life, and it was going to be shown off on live television, I would probably want to preview it/test it out before hand.

Just saying!

I think that could be quite telling.

I applaud developers that want to be more communicative with the fanbase and the community in general, but really I think Nintendo had the right idea, back when they announced that the Revolution was actually called "Wii". That was perhaps the biggest internet gamer shit-storm I've ever witnessed, and Nintendo basically just ignored the whole thing. Including the thousands of idiots who claimed they would never buy anything called a "Wii". And they were right. They let the Wii speak for itself when it found its way into the complainer's hands, and they won.

I've been watching Bioshock Infinite like a hawk since the day it was announced over two years ago, and I haven't seen one single thing that gives me any cause for concern or doubt. I swear, I really think gamers have come to enjoy bullshit like this.

Stop making sense.

You do realize creating a demo can steal a lot of time from development, right?

The version of the game which the press had a chance to play was, for all intents and purposes, a feature complete version rather than a demo. With the way development is going I don't think they have the manpower and time to create a proper demo.

Live by the sword, die by the sword. If they want the benefits of pre-release publicity, they should be prepared to deal with the drawbacks. If they also choose not to release a demo, they have absolutely no room to complain about conclusions that the audiences draws. Consumers don't owe entertainment companies the benefit of the doubt.

It was probably a small groups job to put trailers together. Especially when they're in crunch I really, really doubt anyone who wants to can just drop everything and say "You know what, I don't my name on a trailer that I don't like, I'm going to go spend the day completely altering it to my liking."

Even just previewing isn't as big a deal as you're making it out to be. Typically people actually working on a project aren't involved in its marketing, either because they need to spend their time actually making it or they just don't care.

These guys are working WAY TOO HARD on the PR Spin Moves (isn't that Right Stick to the Left?)

People do not like the Cover Art, there is an excuse for that.

People do not like their artificial intelligence, there is an excuse for that.

Most of the time, I really appreciate this kind of give and take. But they are more on the defense instead of being open to the constructive criticism and appreciative of the input the community is giving them.

You say "excuse", reality says "reason". There's almost always a good reason why things happen that you the end consumer don't understand because you don't have the proper context to. The vast majority of the time you don't get exposed to that "why". Be appreciative that someone felt strongly enough for the fans to actually explain the why of it. More often then not it gets thrown back in our faces, and it tends to make your PR people unhappy with you as well.

It isn't uncommon at all for most developers on a team to not see a new trailer until the same time that everyone else in the public does. That isn't telling of anything, it's just how things work.

He shows up right after Booker is doing the (long) skyhook melee attack, just standing there. He raises the rocket as if to fire but just runs instead, it doesn't look right at all.

I'll concede that it's certainly too early to make a claim against the entire game for having bad AI based off this video, but I'll also say there's nothing showing it being good.
