SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

A Shenmue I and II HD announcement would have probably been better earlier in the campaign. But maybe it took this long to get Sega to do it.

SEGA moves at a snail's pace, so honestly, if it somehow is that announcement, I'd say it was earlier than expected haha!

However, I think it would be perfectly timed as the last big announcement of the campaign, since I honestly don't think Awesome Japan has anything else left.

What we'll probably get it is a "have your name printed in Shenhua's bra label" or something.

Oh god, if the bomb is "Reward Blowout! 25 more rewards to get you in the game!!!" I will absolutely have lost my remaining amount of faith in Awesome Japan.

An HD remaster of I+II as a stretch goal would be frustrating to see. This Kickstarter should be about Shenmue III. And, only Shenmue III.

I believe such a HD remaster should be a fan service, and only a fan service. This Kickstarter is about making the best possible Shenmue III game based on whatever money comes in, $5 million or $10 million. Turning that money towards HD remasters would honesty degrade the finished product of Shenmue III.

I know Ys Net would spin it that the stretch goal of HD I+II would cover that, but I wouldn't trust that. Devoting your resources to 3 games, something would get lost in the process.

Please, just focus on Shenmue III.

They wouldn't put Shenmue HD behind a stretch goal. That would be stupid and ridiculous and it'll also make no sense as it's a SEGA IP.

this. if it's anything relating to a shenmue hd collection it'll be an announcement or a screen, or some other stuff.

at this point it could be anything though.

Is it possible that they have more footage of the game to show at this point?

Probably unlikely given the rough state of the footage in the Kickstarter video.

Not to mention that the costs involved with doing a remaster/HD version of both Shenmue I and II couldn't quite be covered by a stretch goal.

Have no idea what they're gonna drop but I can't see it being the remasters myself. Then again, I can't really think of anything else which could be considered such at this point. Maybe PayPal? but I'd expect that after the KS has ended rather than before...

Guess we'll find out shortly either way ^^

The Shenmue HD stuff isn't happening through Kickstarter people, so adjust your expectations. That whole malarkey needs to be sorted out on SEGA's end, and Yu is powerless where those two games are concerned. We just have to hope that the Kickstarter is considered successful enough that SEGA will be convinced to do something, anything, to make a Shenmue collection a reality.

It's moving quicker again today. 15th is the push.

Favourite character from Shenmue. Blue dock crane.

You know what would really make a splash? An announcement of an anime adaptation of the first two games that includes scenes from cut chapters from the games, as well as a bit of Ryo and Nozomi and then Ryo and Ren and Joy fan service. This isn't an unprecedented thought either, SEGA already has Anime studios and are working on films from other series right now, as well has there been films and anime based on Atlus series. (Persona 3 movie series and spinoff is great. Forget about the Persona 4 anime though)

This would modernize Shenmue as well as allow newcomers to get caught up on the story without having to buy old hardware or resort to emulation or watch the God awful Shenmue the movie.

SEGA and ysnet. 2 million dollar 25 episode anime kickstarter after Shenmue 3 kickstarter, do it. People that love Shenmue will back it, and people that love anime will back it. Stretch goals could extend episode length to 45 min per episode instead of usual 22 min, soundtracks made by famous anime composers, scenes drawn by famous anime artists, and a backer only Shenmue manga adaptation of the anime. 4 million dollar stretch goal is a light novel prequel to the adventures of Joy and Ren.

Just do everything the complete opposite of Red Ash. Definitely do not make the funding goal a 5 minute clip.

Well, most interviews were done back in March... The footage from the Tak Hirai interview might well date from around then (the calendar in the footage says April).

That gives a few months time to prepare some more footage?

Did you just suggest they make ANOTHER Kickstarter for an anime Shenmue? Really don't think we need another Kickstarter to catch people up when we already got the cinema shorts in the first stretch goals.

That's like saying people shouldn't play the first two games with an HD Collection since there will be cinema shorts in Shenmue 3. The argument is frail.

Also, there is absolutely no problem with an anime kickstarter if it is announced AFTER the game one has ended. It surely can't monopolize it if there is only one at a time

it's stretching the fanbase too thin, and frankly i think people would rather play shenmue than watch it.

Whatever money ysnet makes from funding they'll want to use it for Shenmue 3, not anime or storybooks, lol. Funding for Shenmue 3 could still probably continue after kickstarter, no one is going to donate to both an anime and a videogame.

Inafune be kwazy.

It's not like saying that at all. Playing the game is completely different than watching recaps, no matter what medium it is. Why have two recaps in the form of anime and cinema shorts? I mean fair enough if you like anime but we don't need to throw every genre at the series to make it appeal to potential fans.

New Kickstarter to fund Shenmue the Musical! Let's do it!

upped from 300 (actually 310 with shipping) to 400. my logic is that if they really are spending a third of the funding on rewards (didn't someone in the thread say that?) i would like to actually provide 300 towards the game. i suppose i could have elected no rewards, but i really want that art book and signature. thus $400. maybe 410 would actually be the most intellectually honest pledge given that logic...

I suspect Cedric's Twitter post is merely hoping for a huge fuck-ton of money to pour into the KS over the next three days and not something bigger like the announcement of a Shenmue HD Remaster (which would actually be something Sega might announce at TGS along with their grovelling apology to Sega fans worldwide). I hope I'm wrong but.....I have this nagging feeling I'm correct.

Really the time for megaton's being dropped has long passed and only reinforces my belief that this entire KS campaign has been extremely sloppy, only saved by the awesome Shenmue community.

Personally I wouldnt mind if some time after the Kickstarter Sony came out and said they would give the funds to hit all remaining stretch goals

Oh yeah, I don't think any of us would have a problem with that. However, the gaming outlets, who purport to speak on behalf of the gaming community, would go absolutely crazy :(

Every fan would love that. Everyone else? Not so much. The bad press and faux-outrage would be insane.

Polygon: Sony Manipulates Kickstarter Backers by Funding Whole Game in Shenmue 3 Scam!

Only if they also refund all the KS backers minus the cost of rewards.

Imagine pledging >$10k dollars for a Sony funded game that they expect to see a return on.

Let them. Nobody will remember in 2 years and the only people who will truly be upset are people with Xbones who don't play on PC and weren't planning on buying a PS4 in the next 2 years, aka people who weren't going to buy the final product anyway.

No thanks. It would reinforce the narrative that this KS campaign was exploitative and unnecessary. Which they'd be correct in saying if Sony made such a move.

We don't need Sony or any other sugar daddy, we've got this if YS sets up a PayPal fund on their website (which BTW is in need of a major overhaul).

they're really blowing it by not doing some kind of all day stream with yu playing shenmue and classic arcade games etc
thats how you get a big push at the end

I said that, but it would have been more accurate to say that only 2/3 of the Kickstarter money is going toward development. Here's the actual breakdown:

I noticed that since last Thursday, every first update of the day was sent by 7:30 a.m. EST. I'm hoping that this delay is caused by putting this huge "bomb" update together.

isn't sony dealing with marketing? so we kinda do need them regardless, if sony wasnt helping out behind the scenes like they were and helping set this thing in motion we may never have had this kickstarter

I would imagine the team took account of this when creating those stretch goals. In fact I really hope Suzuki has brought onboard a project management expert who can keep a lid on spiraling costs and feature creep, something that plagued the original game.

Nail down the project requirements and stick to it

If there is even such a bomb to begin with.

Sony is only dealing with marketing and porting the PS4. The actual development is solely with Suzuki's team. This has been a point emphasised over and over so to suddenly change this arrangement would look quite bad for Yu and the team.

Aside from the amazing announcement, advertising could amount to a PSN banner or what you'd expect for any other supported indie project.

I hope it gets similar billing at future events. That'd be great.

Late to the party. Unfortunately I had to wait but finally could pledge for the 60$ physical PC version.

Not sure if I missed something since I'm not very familiar with kickstarter and this is the first project I backed. I saw on other kickstarters that some ask for an additional fee for shipping for physical items.
The Shenmue 3 kickstarter says shipping worldwide but didn't ask for any shipping costs, so I only paid 60$. Is that correct?

i'm referring to the secret meetings that Adam and Yu had etc, Sony must have been the one who gave this the push this needed. I'm just saying to say we dont need Sony when it was likely them for finally got the wheels moving is premature. I get the feeling without them giving that push no KS or anything would have happened

I think Yu decided on KS a while ago. He was talking to Sony about funding the game, but that would have taken a lot more time with no guarantees? He went with KS plus Sony indie support to get it moving.

Man I really wish this game would hit every stretch goal. But I'm already stretched thin as it is ;_;

I really wish I had more to give right now.
