SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

Do you think the game will have a physical release in stores?

With the current trend in the KS looking to end around $6 million, would that money also goes towards the physical distribution? I am not sure on the costs behind such, but I would assume it can be quite costly considering production costs of the disc and packaging. From what I may have read, Sony is assisting in Shenmue's advertising, correct? If that is the case, does that also include physical production, which should allow all the KS money to go towards development.

On the other hand, if production costs have to be covered by Ys Net, would one assume that MAYBE the only chance to get a physical release is to back the KS?

Only around 25K backers are at the physical tier or higher, and we have to assume some of them will still select the PC version. Sub 25K would be an incredibly small run for a physical release. Worst case scenario they have excess stock and sell it direct through a website or something.

I've backed this game myself, but does anyone know if there's a way for me to back on behalf of my brother, as well, so that he could get either a digital or physical PS4 copy? He might not get the chance to do it himself before it ends. Would I have to create a new account and use a different bank card for him?

currently, new account but i don't think you'd have to use a new card judging from what other people pledging twice have said.

So if I want both digital PC, and physical PC/PS4, I need two tiers above 60 USD, right?
With the physical PC version, I can get the digital version on steam, correct?

Doesn't seem like they are going to add optional rewards, so I'll just create a second account...

Can be done with the same credit card, right?

whoah, there's a lot of beta materials i've never seen in this.

Yes a few of us were commenting that there's definitely some stuff that's never been released/seen before.

Some quick observations:

Guys on top of the crane at harbour (seen before)
Beta lan di with low poly pony tail.
A shot with a ton of npcs on screen at once in dobuita (could dreamcast handle that?)
Miki appears twice in same shot 1:39 lol
Chai on crane at night, not in main game, at least we don't see him there
Iwao character model is different, looks younger
Ryo collects Zhu Yuanda letters from the mail box himself rather than than being given it by ine san. 4.49
Beta yamanose
Ryo's jacket rides up further and has some kind of crease folding, fabric movement effect
Different forklift models
Arcade very different, flat table machines. and plants
Phone booth much smaller, narrower
Locking onto and speaking to a woman on a balcony!
Ryo has different stance in free battle, looks weird, leans forward, maybe there was a Pose for when he gets tired in battle.
Old terry qte chase (seen before)
Beating up mark (seen before)
Chai doesn't eat ticket!
VIEW MODE -move camera around during cinematics - cut from final game
Buoys, nets in water at harbour
Snow gathering at the edge of water itself

Definitely some cool footage.

even with how crazy detailed shenmue was, it's incredible to see it could have gone even further.

Great little spike in momentum. I get sneaky feeling tomorrow could be a big day for the campaign.

The Dojo have but up video "What's Shenmue- History from the official website. It's interesting watching it especially the 'Play mode' section to see the camera/control configuration they used pre dual analogue set-ups.

Interesting how Mark was a baddie at first. And also looked like a few more games were in You Arcade.

Never seen that before so thanks for that.

Would have been soooo cool to have all those NPC's in the high street at certain points in the game (ike weekends etc). That would have been a welcome addition

the good news is that we're at least two and a half generations removed from the original shenmue. imagine how the NPCs are going to be handled now.

That footage definitely was neat (and that music!!!). They were really modifying things right up to release basically. Does anybody else remember that in the actual What's Shenmue demo/trial it was possible to make Ryo crouch?

So I've been thinking about what this mega-update and bomb for the final push could be as per the glaring hints from Cedric and I'm starting to think that it might be new footage of the game. We already know they've been working on a new video for the page and perhaps the delay on that was because they were generating some new concept footage to which we also know Yu and his team are currently iterating? Shenmue 1 & 2 HD would be wonderful but realistically that's something Sega may announce months down the line since something like that would take more time than this campaign currently has. Paypal is happening but Cedric retweeted someone's tweet indicating it'll be after the campaign ends as part of a post-Kickstarter funding initiative. So you remove Shenmue HD and Paypal out of the equation what are you left with?

We know a video is being worked on and will be produced before the campaign ends; I'm thinking it might be a new trailer. Thoughts?

I assume there was only one reason Ryo could crouch

it might be a new video. i don't think they have much though. then again, the campaign videos were recorded in march so... anything is possible at this point. the last days of a kickstarter campaign can be nuts.

Yeah you may be right I just don't know how if they've had sufficient time to create enough assets/content for a new trailer.

I know Suzuki got a mistranslated question last week and said we would see footage of final game until 2017. Without models getting serious overhaul among other things, I would hate they rush out video and we have to ensure that awful scripting/voice-acting like in the initial trailer.

Tomorrow is going to be interesting...

The UI of KS confused me.

The amount to pledge is on top, xx.00
Shipping (+10) under it.

The amount i want to pledge is yy.00
Somehow, xx.00 = yy.00 + 10
Because i thought Total to pledge including shipping will be shown at the next page,
I tried to reduce the amount to yy.00

Unfortunately, KS redirected me to Let's Choose Your Reward.
Why KS doesn't show an error message instead?
At least with the error message, i will know why i was redirected back to the previous page...

hm... think you could take some screencaps to try and illustrate the problem?

If you click on the reward you want, it should take you to a pledge page which automatically factors in the shipping costs. For example, I clicked $500, it took me to a general pledge page where I could confirm my pledge or select another one and automatically filled in $510.00 for me.

So, if you click the one you want, you can just go to the next page afterwards and complete your order. Shipping, if it applies, should be added automatically. You shouldn't have to adjust the amount there unless you want to give them more than what they are asking for.

Question for those that have already pledged. Does anyone intend on increasing their pledge before the end of the campaign?

I think I'm liable to increase it one more time even though the next tier from me doesn't especially interest me.

Am at 300 and am thinking of doubling down on the final day. But the thing is neither the 500 or 600 tier interest me all that much.

I really really wish we got a new $500 tier. Where are those Mirror replicas :( ?

I was considering adding another hundred but then realized I hadn't paid my phone bill yet. I still might add another 10 for the hell of it but haven't decided. It depends on how much I get caught up in the final rush.

Gonna set up a second account and pledge for a tier with the PS4 box. Which one depends...

Interesting but not surprising. I would imagine this kind of stuff gets cut out of almost every sizable game. That's why when people say that we won't get the "full Shenmue experience" unless we hit $10 million must not have ever worked on a big complicated project like a game before. Nothing is ever 100% complete and you always cut stuff in the end. S3 will be awesome in the end.

These days some of those kind of cuts would lead to lengthy downgrade discussions...urg I'm glad it wasn't a thing back then.

pretty much. especially since there are features already in the game that weren't even stretch goals (fishing), and that some of the stretch goals are just adding onto what's already there (part time job). a 5-6 million from the KS will make a fine shenmue 3

we're still gunning for those combat stretch goals though

Yes, I went up from $29 to $60 for 30 on the 3rd and plan to go up to at least $100 before the end. I might also create a second account to get another physical copy.

i have to come back to this because i just realised something watching the combat part

you use Y to evade/dodge/deflect, and X (amongst other buttons) to attack

... yu suzuki invented a basic form of the batman combat in 1999. WHAT.
