Too late people you all arrive late!

Don't worry dude your title's fine! Awesome that we have a new thread for this.

Also of note is that I've been watching the KS page and it really is getting faster now. We jumped around 20K in barely an hour. Confident that we're going to have a really strong final push.

Reminder emails haven't even been sent out yet ~_~

Already at the $60 tier, but may just create another acct and pledge another $30 for the digital version. I doubt i'll have trouble recouping the $60 for the PS4 retail version.

While I'm not a huge fan of the stretch goals, at least they are all about making the core game experience better.

Most video game stretch goals are crap like Wii U and Vita port options which will just slow down / un-focus development.

I'm also glad Shenmue 3 won't hit the open world stretch goal. Tired of open world games. I want a self contained story without too much stuff to distract you. Linear is fine with me. Especially as this looks to not finish the story but be part 3 of what? 4 or 5 games?

That brings up an interesting point. Does Yu own the Shenmue license for all future games or just agreement for Shenmue 3. I assume if 3 is successful, Sega will fund the next game in the series. But if it's only mildly successful, it may get into a situation where Sega doesn't want to fund it, but wants to hold on to the license as it has value to them now.

Sega owns the rights but Yu Suzuki basically built their company on his own and the license is so closely linked to him that if it looked like Sega was dicking him over, the license would become worthless to them. Hopefully this is successful enough that Sega will fund the last game outright without all these hoops.

That's strange, wasn't there supposed to be $10 shipping to Canada? I had to downgrade my pledge from $300 to $60 [budget constraints], but upon selecting the $60 tier it simply added on $60 and nothing for shipping. There's no mention of a shipping cost on the tier listings either.

my hopes exactly, but honestly, this looks to be such a success so far - and again, with all the right people - that if it comes to it? i don't doubt 4 can get a similar deal with crowdfunding/etc if needed, honestly. not ideal, but not another 14+ year wait at least...the only thing that'd endanger this is if 3 somehow went tits-up on execution, and since awesome japan can't affect that, i've got faith, heh

lookin' good!

People won`t plegde after 5 million if they don`t add another goal between 5 and 6.

this is a valid concern, but again, i personally find it much more upsetting that we don't have paypal yet - its not just a viable revenue stream, it's important for post-KS funding, which this fanbase would very much be down for, i think

You know, the stretch goals don't make sense to me. Why limit the other two towns to later stretch goals. If the stretch goal was Baisha Town Expanded with 5 Mini Games. Why not spread out those 5 Mini games to the other towns?

I wonder if you'll spend most of your time in Baisha then the other two town segments will be too short while Baisha was too long.

A small question before I back it. Will there be no retail boxed version on ps4/pc, other than the kickstarter one? Is this the only opportunity to get a hard copy? If so, I would have no choice but to back it :p

Not sure. Good question. Don't think that'll print PS4 discs without having retail. I think the boxart is Kickstarter exclusive but the game may get retail version.

Baisha is the main area of the game and you are expected to spend the most time there.

Sure it will. They haven`t said so, but really..

Most likely yes, but the Kickstarter has a "special" box to go with it. :P

So what do we think of the new backing tier?

Appear as an NPC staying at a Choubu inn. No big battle scene with Ryo, but this is your chance to cameo in the world of Shenmue!
Limit 4.
Includes the RYO VOICE MESSAGE BY COREY MARSHALL Reward.

2 out of 4 available.

Will increase my pledge if we don't hit 5 million on the last day, but it's looking like we will. Thanks to all regular posters for keeping the flame alive, may you find your sailors.

I'm sorry but did you play Shenmue... AT ALL? That was "open-world" by Yu Suzuki's design! People should really stop using GTAV/Skyrim/Fallout as "definitive" descriptions of "open-world". Please, it's exhausting and lazy criticism. Not to mention a direct insult at Yu's esoteric design philosophy.

I think they should be more precise on how both NPC types differ, and why there is a difference in pledge levels.
Like is "big battle scene" just getting beat up by Ryo, or actually getting to do a bit more than that?

Player designed rooms would have been pretty cool (like pillars of eternity) IMO.

This thing better hit 6mil...

Tall order, to gain enough momentum for a million. I'm happy once it hits 5, been wanting that since this began pretty bad. Once Yu stated he really wanted to do that feature. 5.5 would be truly outstanding to take the funding crown, and really staple Shenmue up there as a valuable/supported IP. 6 would be pretty insane though, to get the advanced FREE battle. Can imagine it would add a lot to the game, to be able to make the combat in depth.

I think we'll more than likely break 5 today. Who knows how high we can go after that...

First, wow, what an aggressive post. You need to relax a bit.

Anyways, I played Shenmue significantly. I had the best Darts score in my area :)

It was pretty self contained, sure, you can explore the other towns earlier then the story dictated you g there, and there was some mini games and interactions, but most of the game followed a linear progression. If you consider Shenmue open-world, then you need to consider most RPGs open-world. The concept of "open-world" as a genre was popularized by GTA3 and the narrative and definition around it as a genre changed with it.

fyi the open world goal is not a traditional open world and is based in adding a massive procedurally generated forest to bailu village

just thought i would clear that up

Im thinking of doing the same. I prefer digital but buying the physical will boost the campaign and even selling it on sealed should make its money back.

Or if I change my mind and want to go physical I can sell the download code on and keep the disk

Unless they add addons today I'll be creating a new account to get a PC digital code in addition to the PS4 physical version which I can leave sealed :)
