SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

5 mill!!

Also is there a chance (maybe this has been talked about) that funding will go on after kickstarter like star citizen, maybe enabling paypal and stuff?

If you know it's going to happen, which by now we should all be well aware that pledge trolls will play around when we are near milestones, then you can just look at it as someone wasting their time fighting the inevitable. At this point the legitimate pledges will have it over the milestone in an hour or so anyway.
Yep. :)

The question is about in terms of open world not how big. There are three villages, so at least will be as big as shenmue 2.

That hasn't really been clear. It kinda depends on what Yu Suzuki means by "open world". He said $5 million would let him make the game he dreamed of, $10 million would let him make a true open-world game. Many folks think he considers Shenmue 1 and 2 to be open-world games, which means he would need the Kickstarter to reach $10 million to make a game similar in scope to the first two, while $5 million would be enough to make a decent game that finishes the story.

I consider the Shenmue games less open worlds and more densely detailed zones/sandboxes. They were less about showing off scale and more about attention to detail.

To be honest, I'm not sure how a 5 million dollar budget translates into a game like that since so few games like that are even made.

Can anyone seriously see the team making something smaller than Shenmue 1 with Unreal 4? There's three villages. Worrying about size is kind of redundant. It'll be fine, guys.

Why does this just demotivate me so much? I feel like cancelling my pledge everytime I think about getting what seems like a subpar Shenmue 3...
Why do you think it's subpar?

Every single game you've bought could have been made bigger, better and more improved if they had more money. Does that demotivate you from buying those as well?

How open world and how big is synonymous in the question. Shenmue 1 also had 3 different towns; Dobuita, Yamanose, and Sakuragaoka, with Dobuita being the largest and filled with more activities. There was barely anything to do in Yamanose and Sakuragaoka outside of interacting with npcs. Shenmue 2 is a much larger game than Shenmue 1. Suzuki's answer means we'll at least be getting Shenmue 1 levels. With $11 million having more fleshed out remaining towns and the magic maze, then it'll be more like Shenmue 2 size.

Good point. And I guess that's why companies don't release statements like that to the public. I'd rather not know what was cut, etc...

...so with this Baisha village can be fully realized. Until $7.5 million are battle improvements, so I hope post-Kickstarter sources of funding will help develop the remaining areas. Paypal, where are yooou?

In the Niconico interview, at this point, they start talking about funding and game content. YS says that he is confident that at the current level they will be able to do a certain feature that "occurs at the location of Baisha". I believe this is the Character Perspective System. Now the interview was before we hit the stretch goal today, obviously, and I think the KS was at about $4.75 million. I really get the feeling that if we happen to get close to another stretch goal and don't quite meet it, they will round up to it.

I pledged $120 as soon as the Kickstarter came out. It doesn't say it on the pledges specifically, but I'm assuming all tiers above $80 will get the exclusive phone conversations, right?

Hm... Sold a few games and already pledged 29 as a sort of compliment and to prove dreams come true and told you guys about my financial situation..

But here i am thinking about how special it is to have a real copy of the game in backer case and the game is far away so... Think im going to regret if I keep it at 29 dollar to be honest :/ dunno

Yeah I mean the game is getting made now one way or another, I really think the stretch goals are more for the Kickstarter to keep momentum, but I imagine they'll try and make Shenmue 3 as good as it can be. If they're a couple hundred thousand away from funding a feature in the Kickstarter I don't see why they wouldn't just choose to do it anyway.

Clearly the very specific set amounts per extra goal won't work out like that in terms of the real cost for adding each feature. Some will cost less, some may cost more. I just can't see them being so anal as to say, oh well we're a few thousand dollars short for X feature, just gonna finish the game off there then, see ya! :p
