Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter launches on May 27 (PC, PS4, XB1)

Last game was fantastic, they hit a great balance between their older games and newer Telltale influences.

Can't wait for this.

Crimes and Punishment surprised me, I really liked it. I bought "testament of sherlock holmes " (the game before Crimes and Punishment) and it was ok but I Think there has been great improvment.

This game : day one!

blending investigation, action and exploration

Noooooo

Those were the worst parts of the last game (stupid-ass QTEs). They were mercifully few, but yeah. Please stick to detective/investigation/puzzle-solving. ;_;

I'm still surprised we are getting a new game already next month (new release date is 10th of June). It seems not so long ago that C&P was released (i checked and it was released in september 2014). I hope it will be as enjoyable as C&P. That game was a huge surprise.

Well at least there was that scene where Watson got sick of everyone's shit and kept owning that one doctor with sick burns.

But yes. Day one!

Only one week to go :) I hope it's as good as C&P or even better. That game was great.

I wonder if anyone is doing an OT for the game?

I've been trying to preorder this game forever, but no one even has it listed. Searching around it seems that the retail release for consoles in the US and Canada has been delayed until Summer? I have had difficulty finding anything concrete.

Does anyone know what's up with this game? It looks like it will be available on Steam on the 10th, but I can't figure out if it will be available digitally for Xbone/PS4 on that day as well or was that delayed too?

Help GAF.

Some impressions from the first case (in German): http://www.xtgamer.de/2016/06/06/angespielt-sherlock-holmes-the-devils-daughter/

To summarize, the gameplay is very similar to that of CaP (yay!) with some new smaller additions that nicely mix up the gameplay. Graphics look much better but just like CaP it has pretty long loading times when you travel to the various locations.

If you want, you can watch the three-hour playthrough of the entire first case here (in English): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31amGDgWSlk

I really liked Crimes and Punishement, but a couple of cases in it were partially ruined for me by the fact that I had read the stories from wich the cases where based on. I would like to know if there is a list of the cases included in this one and the relative stories that they are inspired from. Anybody knows?

PS-Sorry to ear that the long-ass loading times are still present. I played C&P on a PS3 and they were pretty hard to bear. Were the ones on PS4 any better?

Game is out in Middle East for PS4 if anyone's over there :X
Gonna grab my copy off GMG soon for USD 29~

OK GAF I have a question about this game. Since it was delayed in North America I was thinking about importing a UK copy to the US. I've never done this before so is there anything I need to know? It's my understanding that the game should work with no problem, but any dlc would need to be purchased from the UK store? Did Crimes and Punishments even have any dlc? This is all a gift for a friend so I just want to make sure there won't be any unexpected problems. Any answers or help you can give me would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks, GAF!

Both consoles are region free so the UK copy will work just fine on a US console.

As far as DLC is concerned, you're right that they'd need to be purchased from the UK store (on PS4 at least, no idea about XB1) but Crimes & Punishment didn't have any DLC (and I don't expect any for TDD either).

You are a life saver thanks for the help! BTW if anyone else is interested there is a pretty reasonable price on eBay right now.

Thanks again chadskin.

There doesn't seem to be an OT?

I just finished the first case. Action scenes are definitely the weak point as anyone would expect. I got the choice right. The options for the way Sherlock acts at the very ending of the case (actual spoilers)
were all bad: not shooting anyone isn't saying yes Marsh should be killed, yet Sherlock speaks as if he approves of it! I hope the father gets held responsible in some way for what he did.

Americans:
If you want to play Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter today, you can. You just have to do it on PC. There is something strange going on with the console version.

In press releases provided as recently as May, publisher Bigben Interactive tagged the game with a June 10 release date on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The Steam rollout happened as plan, but the game is absent from both the Xbox games store and PlayStation Store.

Marketing we just received has replaced the date with an amorphous “summer 2016” release window. However, it’s done so for all versions, including the already released PC edition.

In response to our inquiry, Bigben says that the game was delayed in North America last Friday until later this summer. "We did announce last Friday that the North American release of the game was delayed until later this summer," a representative told us via email. "It did release today in Europe only."

never played a sherlock game and i have crimes and punishment on xbox one ready to install, is the game similar to professor layton games ?

I'm far into case 3. The game looks like an easy platinum.

Wow. Sorry North America.

No, it isn't a collection of small unrelated riddles. It is about looking through environments to find clues, reading notes and talking to witnesses. You must interpret the clues correctly in line with other clues. There are five cases in Crimes and Punishments to solve, which you can charge the wrong person in and continue through the game, if you interpret the evidence incorrectly. Each case is a small number of hours long, with some longer than others.

Bought it today on PS4. Seems to be very similar to the last game so far which is a good thing. Just don't expect technical upgrades due to them ditching last gen consoles. The character model quality varies greatly even in the first few minutes.

I really disliked the conclusion of case two.

You are sucked into some alternate world and have to play Indiana Jones inside a pyramid, how the hell can whatever's going on not be a curse or something else supernatural?

It appears to be his imagination. For example the trophy says 'escape the perils of your imagination'. I didn't like the end of the case either, after thinking it was coming together well when uncovering the automatons, that perhaps the shorter person could operate from within (so not so automatic). I really don't want anything supernatural in the game though, 'and then magic happened' does not fit with solving mysteries logically.

I it just me, or do the conclusions seem much more blurry this time around? In all the cases in this game it seems like every single suspect has the means and motive and there's no evidence that decisively excludes anyone. It's basically all gut feeling.

I've been thinking this too. The endings are a lot less satisfying because of that.

I finished the game and got the platinum just now.

I think the opposite. I've done the first three cases and got them all right. There's always points or details that make the other potential solutions just not watertight. Some of the points in favour of one or the other person could go either way, but there's always one where one of the two options just doesn't fit with what you know to be true, which then makes that proposed outcome impossible.

Question for those currently playing it:

Is the story more like the Jack the Ripper and Testament games where it's an overarching plot, or is it more like Crimes and Punishment where it's just individual cases with little or nothing of an overall story?

I'm over half-way, and it's like Crimes and Punishments, but with a sort of recurring plot point in each case that's building up and will probably come to fruition in the final one - so there's more of an overarching story too.

Could you elaborate on those points for the later cases? Because I didn't see anything that pointed to a clear culprit in the last three cases.

I really want to play this but the 21:9 aspect ratio bug makes it unplayable, everything is shifted 4cm to the left which makes selecting things a massive chore.

They seem to be aware of the issue but dodged around whether or not it'll be fixed. Fingers crossed.

I am playing this on PS4 and it is a gigantic disappointment compared to its predecessor so far. I am close to finishing case 2,
I am currently trying to endure the awful mini-games in the pyramid and doing my best not hit the skip button
. I'm surprised the reviews aren't more vicious, it is really bad.

I have been following the series from the beginning on PC and while it was always far from perfect, the games got better with every new entry (imho of course) and they hit a great balance with Crime and Punishment which was the kind of adventure game I always wanted to play on a console. Here, it feels like the dev team went back in time ten years and made a Wii mini-game collection and removed the wiimote controls at the last minute. The QTEs and mini-games are horrendous and absolutely everywhere, the writing is very inconsistent and technically on PS4 it's a real mess, much worse than the last entry on PS3, the loading times last forever.

I am very disappointed to have bought this game at full price, I wanted to support this series but the devellopers completely lost the plot with this game.

As a big fan of C&P (iirc, it was my GOTY), i'm struggling a lot more with this one (i'm on case 3). It's a shame that Frogwares doesn't seem to understand what made C&P fun. They are desparately trying to reach a bigger audience (which doesn't exist imo) but the net result will be that even the "hardcore" fans will leave.

The thing is, the core gameplay that made C&P fun, is still fun in this game. The detective work, the cases, the interrogations, the connections and the moment of putting it all together and reaching a conclusion is great.

But everything else that was added compared to C&P is actually really bad. There's a bit of Assassin's Creed (especially in the beginning of the game) and at times it feels like a very poor Uncharted game (including evading a rolling rock that rolls in two directions...). Did the developers actually think this would be fun?

They also introduced an open world hub of some sorts but it doesn't have any purpose at all. It's just there. And once the cases get going and the novelty wears off, there is zero point in it. You just go from place to place with your carriage.

Also, there is still the issue of loading times. They didn't bother me all that much in C&P because you can use the loading times to consult your notebook and go over the case, refresh your memory,... But there are instance when you are on a crime scene, need to go back to your home... loading time... find an address on the map.... loading time and go back to the crime scene.

It's surprising and dissapointing to see that no technical improvements were made to the engine. Frogwares seems to have a talented art team but a lot of that nice art is constrained by technical limitations and problems of the engine. Sometimes, there is screen tearing in even the most simple scenes (e.g. in Sherlocks home).

All in all, this feels like a big step backwards compared to C&P. I hoped this new Sherlock Holmes would be more of the same good detective work with technical issues ironed out. Instead, we got a mixture of the good stuff but every single addition was bad. I was already sceptical when i heard about more action scenes and trying to reach a bigger market and it turned out to be true. And that's a shame. Because deep down, hidden underneath all the problems, there is actually a good idea for a good game in there.

Next time, i hope Frogwares focuses on what makes these games enjoyable, gets rid of all the action bits and irons out the technical issues. If not, i think i'll pass.

I agree that the next game neeeds to use better engine, namely Unreal Engine 4 to become a much better on technical level but the game is much better than Crimes and Punishments. I am veryhappy that I did not wait for digital sale like I did last time and bought the phisical copy

I feel the exact opposite about the game. C&P was fantastic but i gave up on this one in chapter 3 and i can't be bothered to finish the game. All the gameplay changes made since C&P made it a worse game. It's my disappointment of the year so far and i wish i hadn't bought it full price.
