Shikigami no Shiro III

For those interested in the game, I'm going to be getting Qs answered by the team soon, via Aksys...So if you want anything in particular asking about the Wii version, then let me know by posting here or PM/email me asap :)

So, how come you'll be talking to them?

Maybe in the minority of people that actually give a shit about this crappy series. Definitely not in the minority of gamers! People wonder why Alfa's still wasting their time with this crap. I guess shitty character garbage sells to the shmup crowd better than actual gameplay these days. Even Cave agrees, every new title is another venture into some dumbass fetish. :lol

I am torn on the US version. On one hand, the -> Legendary AWESOMELY bad Castle Shikigami II voice acting <- made the game more fun to replay. On the other hand, I'd really like a version that was not complete nonsense English. Such a dilemma.

now if somebody picks up raiden fighters aces i'll be free of my doomed longing for an unwarrantied import 360

I've already sent loving letters to UFO interactive to tell them to consider it (due to their localization of Raiden 3 and their obvious interest in Raiden IV). All I've received back so far is a bulk e-mail thanking me for interest in their company. I'm hoping that someone does look at bringing the game stateside (if not UFO, someone else), but I think we should be more wishing for a Hong Kong/Asian release since its more likely and those are usually region free.

The game is being published in Japan by Arc System Works. Maybe he wants to talk to them. Who better to talk to than the company that is essentially Arc System Works USA?

The question was not WHY he is talking to them but HOW COME. I mean I might want to talk to the Pope but that doesn't mean the Pope will make me an appointment.

So I asked him because I wanted to know who he is. Whether he works for some professional site, et cetera et cetera.

I have an interview with ASW/AS via Aksys Games. Shame nobody contributed with any Qs :/ Too late now. Ah well, I'll let you know when/if anything comes back.

Indeed it does.

From Wikipedia:

"tate" ("portrait format") in video games is a mode in which the game is presented in 3:4 vertical orientation, rotated 90 degrees from a television's normal 4:3 orientation. Tate is most often found in console ports of arcade vertical scrolling shooters, where the screen in the original arcade machine is oriented vertically.

Does the US version have a Japanese language option? And if not, is the dubbing okay?
It doesn't look like it. There is an "Extra Options" feature that you can unlock by beating the game (I haven't done it yet) that might contain the option, but I honestly doubt it.

The dubbing isn't great, but it's not offensively bad. You have the option to turn off all the voices if you really hate them.

An "off" option is good enough. I like supporting low-key conversions, but some of them have such awful dubs! I wish they'd realize their audience for these hardcore games don't mind the Japanese, or even prefer it.

Well, at least they realize that somewhat. We haven't seen another Mobile Light Force 1/2 (Gunbird/Shikigami no Shiro 1) disaster since then, and I think it's because of the extremely strong negative reaction the mutilation of those games got... if the worst that can be said is that it has a mediocre dub job with no original voice option, they're doing pretty well really.

Does anyone know if the U.S. is getting the 360 version in any form?

Anyone?

Is this even the same company? The older ones were done by "XS Games", and this says "AkSys Games". What'd they do, change their name just enough to avoid people who ear-marked them as a bad company? :lol

I wish the Wii was as import-friendly as the Cube was. I have quite a few imported GC games, including Shikigami II.

Not sure actually... It seems that XS Games hasn't published anything since March 2007 (The Red Star), while Aksys's first game was published in October 2006, though their next one after that was June 2007. They're probably different companies.

XS Games did publish Castle of Shikigami II on PS2 in the US, though. They kept the actual game name and character names that time, and not only did they leave the story in (unlike Gunbird or Shikigami 1), they actually TRANSLATED it (unlike the endings to Sol Divide, which were text only endings that they just left in Japanese)! It was about as accurate a port as Castle of Shikigami III is, except with a hilariously bad translation and awful voice acting.

Anyway, my point was mostly "it could have been a lot worse", not that the same company released both titles.

No, I agree, it could have been much, much worse. There's nothing wrong with the conversion at all. I played it tonight and it's fine, nothing like the awful Mobile Light Force conversions. I'd like to have Japanese in it, but that's not exactly something common, and none of the big blockbuster games out of Japan have that, so I can't fault a low-budget game for not having it. It'd be nice, though, and I think it'd score points with the niche fan base.

Just cracked open the US Wii version of the game - and surprise, it has a very nice full-color manual. Unexpected, for a shmup in today's NA market...and cool.

I recently started playing this game and I must say its fantastic. The beautiful bullet patterns, the great music and the weird dream-like story, it all works so well together. Its the most compelling and satisfying game I have played in quite some time.

Aksys is one of those cool publishers that do color manuals.
