Shirley Temple passed away

RIP.

I also had no idea she was still alive. It turns out Doris Day is still alive also. Didn't know that either.

My mind was blown when I found out that Rose Marie from the Dick Van Dyke show is still around, and she was a child star in the 20s. Her first credit was a pre-code film with W.C. Fields.

I don't think it's unfair to say that Shirley Temple was the greatest child actor of all time.

As a kid, she got it. She really understood acting, starting at an incredible age of 5. Not just adorable but really talented too. Song and dance, emotional acting, she could do it all. There hasn't been a kid able to take the lead role for so many movies and do so well.

I don't think there's another child actor that comes close.
RIP

When I heard the news this morning, my first reaction was "I didn't know she was still alive!" I honestly assumed she was deceased long ago because in my 25 years I can't recall seeing her make an appearance on television. She must have taken a Johnny Carson approach to retirement, and avoided all cameras completely. I know she retired from acting after childhood to focus on politics, but she really must have avoided all media after that.

Are there any recent pictures of her?

Seems like she really went into hiding. I remember seeing those commercials for her movie boxsets all the time as a kid. Her movies were frequently on the Disney Channel for awhile too in the mid-late 80s.

She got out of show business by age 12. Became a diplomat and a mother. You probably won't find all that much.

Never saw her as a young adult. She was cute.

RIP

R.I.P. Shirley Temple Black

Not true; she quit much later than that. There were a few movies here and there after she got older but what really happened was she didn't have the look for being a non child actress and good parts dried up.

RIP

On Sunday I was in a restroom that had a huge picture of her hanging up on the wall and was thinking fondly of all the films of hers I watched as a kid because my mom always had on American Movie Classics. Realized it had been a while since I had watched any of them and wondered if we would ever really see another like her again.

RIP.

I had no idea she was still alive. One of my favorite childhood films was The Little Princess. I saw it again a couple of years ago and it was still a heartwarming experience.

this is really weird. i distinctly remember waking up and getting ready to go to high school one day about 5 years ago with the news talking about her passing away. maybe im mistaking her for another former child star.

rip anyway

I remember at least two films she did as an adult - one with Cary Grant and Myrna Loy whose title I can't remember and Mr. Belvedere Goes to College with Clifton Webb.

As mentioned earlier... That film with Cary Grant was "The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer"...funnily enough, I saw it again recently on TCM...

RIP

I wasn't into classic movies/TV shows when I was a kid but for some reason I really liked her movies and I Love Lucy. Great entertainer.

Child actor for her age, I'll buy, because how good she was for how young she was was pretty amazing. As far as child actresses in general, Jodie Foster very good even before Taxi Driver, and I was always really impressed by Dakota Fanning.

And Rest in Peace, of course.
