Shogun 2 Getting Pretty Good Reviews

Look awesome... but I don't really know anything about Ancient Japan history, I've no interest in playing a game with that setting. Rome Total War 2 please?

By the way might as well ask this, is Medieval 2 any good?

Medieval II was a great game for the time, though I haven't replayed it anytime recently. EU3 has kinda spoiled me on nation-building tactical strategies though Total War and Europa Universalis are two different beasts in their own right that have their own strengths and weaknesses.

However I can't believe I just bought this when I stated up and down numerous hallways that it was a joke - though much of my irate anger was toward Sega gouging the shit out of Australian users on Steam. They must have forgotten the memo because whilst Shogun 2 is $89 USD atm, the Total War pack inc. Shogun 2 is only $99 USD. An extra $10 and I get to have 3 other TW games I don't have on Steam? Fuck yeah.

I still would've killed for Shogun 2 at $50 or something though.

Can't you use the Direct2Drive offer? With the code, my final price was the equivalent of 38 AUS Dollars - Which is awesome, considering just like the Aussies, Denmark has some of the most expensive games on this lil' planet.

I really want this, but this is the first time I've ever been worried I wouldn't be able to run it at pretty settings.

The demo seemed okay, but looking at screens and stuff I never really got challenged the way I'm seeing body/horse/explosion counts like the ones in the screens. And the UI is gorgeous

It's still amazing, and some of the modding tools they've got running now are astonishing, witness what they're doing with a new modding tool for settlements which they're using for the Third Age mod:

The lack of tools for Empire onwards verges on the criminal

I just bought Rome: Total War GOLD for €2.50 on Steam. I've never played a Total War game before, and I've only played Civilization for long periods of time and thought it was time to branch out a little. I remember Rome getting a lot of fantastic reviews when it was released, and at that price it's not much of a gamble.

I cannot help but know this game will be subpar, better then Empire but they so are not doing enough work to flesh it out or make it deep enough game by not allowing more factions to be played. Nor give us the depth needed. Let alone the AI which at this point in the total war lifespan Creative will need to absolutely prove to me that its better and full on complete.

I'm convinced in a negative fashion that this game will fail.

ALthough the setting I LUV! however they just aren't doing enough on the campaign map and with enough factions to make me happy. Fav setting of all time for sure.

I'll put an OT up in just a few minutes.

Good to hear the positive reviews, I've got my copy pre-ordered. Loved the demo.

Until I accidentally made my faction leader commit seppuku.

I knew it was going to be good. Most games The Creative Assembly has made get very solid reviews and are more importantly enjoyed by RTS fans.

Sounds like you haven't actually read anything about it.

Preordered mine today from Amazon. Has some neat preorder bonuses as well. Also free release date delivery for those with Prime...

I eventually caved and downloaded the huge demo - i'm really glad I did as it's made me buy the Total War collection on Steam (including this game) for a meagre £40. I just hope there will be a pre-load period as I don't look forward to that huge download.

I am rocking a variety of graphics settings which means the game runs pretty well for me. 1080p at 30-40fps, with some dips to the 20s when a lot is going on and the camera is zoomed in. I can't really tell a massive difference between all ultra and what I have.

Oh yeah, and the game is amazing. Really impressed that I managed to put 3 hours into a demo and still felt like I barely scratched the surface. Yet at the same time, it feels easy to learn and not overwhelming in the least (not like Tactics Ogre *shudder*).
