Shooting at BLM protest in Minneapolis

People want that model minority status so they shit on blacks for that pat on the back. I say fuck that shit

doesn't help that the media is nonstop crime news, crime entertainment, and negative depictions of minorities are the norm. And if it's not a hispanic person, its a black person.
instead of cursing the devil they curse the nigger in the 20th and 21st centuries. Satan is gone and has been replaced. Evil and unknown alien blackness.

I'm willing to bet a weeks wages these asshats were from reddit or 4chan or both. The slang is dead on.

They are. One of these 4chan hooligans wrote a lengthy racist rant about an encounter they had with BLM on Friday. I posted it earlier in the thread. They seem to get a kick out of going to black social gatherings ("chimpouts" is their racist slang for it) and causing problems.
Theyre the scum of the earth for sure.

Basically. Non-white non-blacks being higher up the racism totem pole doesn't excuse white people from being racist.

That line of thinking always makes me so freaking mad.

How is this not bigger news? Also not surprised this thread is only five pages when that Dartmouth thread was far longer. Smh

it's a pretty straight forward tragedy, not much room for back and forth unless someone actually wants to defend the shooting.

Great. My dad has been counter-protesting BLM up in the Cities lately, so I'm sure he's going to use this as more fuel for his fire.

I was in Minneapolis this morning, walking back to my apartment after walking my friend to her car and a cop car stopped in the road, rolled down its window and an officer asked me where I was going, and what my name was. It was pretty unsettling, as I was literally just walking on the sidewalk. After I said my name there was about a 10 second silence and he just said thanks and drove off. I had my hood up. Felt like it was connected to the shooting, perhaps? (I'm white)

What is he even attempting to achieve? The status quo takes care of cops and white people just fine.

He was always a laid back "fuck it" kind of dude, but always openly racist, too. Since he's bored these days, he's been standing up for the rights of people like him who worked all their lives but feel that other races don't work as hard and that makes them inferior.

If my family is any indication, racism towards blacks is pretty damn common among Hispanics.
Oh, it definitely is. I live in a predominantly Hispanic area and I see and hear it all the time. The word for the color black is said in 2 different ways with one having a more demeaning and derogatory tone when spoken.

Yeah, fuck them for "helping" BLM, not because they nearly killed multiple people!

So dumb.
What are you talking about? I meant the protesters getting shot will only further reinforce the current state of the race relations. I wasn't thanking them for shooting anyone but hey call me dumb for literally stating the obvious.

No offense but your pops sounds like a complete piece of shit. Thankfully doesn't seem you've taken up from his side.

We need to go Operation Reddit Shine on 4chan for incubating real life terrorism. I've tweeted @hiroyuki_ni (current owner of 4chan) asking if he can do anything about it. If Reddit can realize the behavior of these people needs to stop then so can 4chan.

Reddit is equally bad if not worse at this point at stemming the increasing amount of vitriol that flows through the larger subreddits. Both sites are essentially at the mercy of some idiotic vocal minority. 4Chan I wouldn't expect to shutter shit like /pol/ anyway, but Reddit as a whole has proven to be terrible at policing themselves so who cares. /r/videos and /r/news at this point might as well be Stormfront. They flipped /r/videos to remove political ones and now /r/politicalvideos exists as a dumpster fire of blatant hate.

Then we force them. Reddit didn't even really try anything until that ad revenue was in danger. I wish I could find a list of companies that advertise on 4chan. I would address them directly. Once you start touching that bottom line people tend to listen.

George Takei posted a news story about this on Facebook, commenting on how tragic it was.

Some people in the comments are defending this and putting the blame on the protesters and, in the worst cases, black people as a whole. Fuck FB man.

Also, some quick facts from today's Star Tribune:

-Currently suspected shooters were all white, two of them turned themselves in
-The hispanic was released, but he was all but confirmed to be a white (non-black?) supremacist who frequents 4chan's /k/
-The hispanic and first arrested white guy are suspected to be the guys in the video posted several days prior
-There was a video uploaded of the pre-violent bullshit and is suspected to have been filmed by the shooters.
-Both City Hall and federal buildings now have tightened security and were also on lockdown for at least part of Tuesday.

EDIT: And another idiot fired shots this morning https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...n-a-row/?postshare=9271448467992996&tid=ss_fb

amazing how the news has ignored this

You know, I think it's a bipolar thing. My dad is actually one of the friendliest, laid back guys you would ever meet, even hanging around black and Mexican and gay folks. He even dated his psychiatrist for a while a year or two ago, a big black woman.

I think he talks out of his ass when it's just him and another white person, like he's trying to be cool. Like I said, I think he's doing this because he was bored and I also suspect someone else convinced him to go. He's been spending a lot of time working volunteer work for the police and other emergency service programs and that also applies to this. Whether it's one of them taking him under their wing or him being upset with police officer slander since he works with them (also his brother, my uncle, is retired law enforcement). An example of the inverse of this is that I can talk to him and be like "you know, dad, everyone's equal and everything is kind of shitty for non-white straight people" and he'll be like "oh yeah, I know, it's really shame". Makes me think he's really just following the leader and has no opinions for himself. Or he doesn't want to upset me.

I seriously think it's something mental in him. My son is autistic and I'm mildly autistic and my dad had learning disabilities, so I wonder if there's something he was never diagnosed with.

That said, enough excuses, it's pretty shitty, but I don't expect it to last long.

I'm actually really fucking scared about what's going to happen next. Like seriously, I pass within a few blocks of the 4th Precinct whenever I take the bus to or from downtown, which I do regularly. And sometimes I do it late at night. So uh yeah... These shootings are not good.

I was flipping through channels and saw Rachel Maddow (MSNBC) do a segment on it. She went over the events leading up to the shooting, the video with 2 guys showing off a gun, the threats BLM had already faced, the shooting itself, even mentioning 4chan.

Overall it's crazy how little attention it is getting though.

Of course, in the case of Fox News the story goes against their narrative of demonizing BLM, so they want nothing to do with it.

That sounds about right.

If Fox News *did* cover it they would somehow twist it to make it sound like the white supremacists were in the right, so perhaps it's for the best they don't...

Good. Lock these shit heads up.

Yup.

If you think Fox News is bad, they're still probably worse than you thought.

Fox News host Bill O'Reilly continued his attacks on Black Lives Matter during a panel on his show the day following the shooting. During the November 24 broadcast of The O'Reilly Factor, O'Reilly said of the movement, "if black lives matter, how come this group isn't on the south side of Chicago when every weekend you've got a couple of dozen black lives lost," while a panelist claimed Black Lives Matter is "inciting violence to the point of hate crime."

During that segment, O'Reilly even alluded to the police shooting of Jamar Clark, but failed to acknowledge that five people protesting Clark's death had been shot the night before or that three suspects had been arrested.

God damn O'Reilly...

I dont have a problem at all with the British model of news moderation. Either provide balanced coverage are you dont get to label yourself a "News Channel"
Whatever drawback there is from that model, the public harm it prevents makes up for it.

Are you all refering to the Hispanic guy who was a suspect? Wasn't he released though without an arrest or warrant or anything? Maybe I heard wrong though.
Edit:
Yup, double checked:
NYT said:
The authorities identified the suspects in the shooting as Allen Lawrence Scarsella, 23; Nathan Gustavsson, 21; Daniel Macey, 26; and Joseph Backman, 27. All are white and were arrested in the Minneapolis area. The police also detained a 32-year-old Hispanic man, but he was released after questioning.
Would have ruined his life is the media had released his name before arrests. He was apparently just there on the scene?
Edit2: Oh still a crazy lunactic white power dude. Nevermind then.

Yeah, the Hispanic guy is a white supremacist (or would it be not-black supremacist?). I believe he was initially suspected due to being in a youtube video which was pretty damn threatening. Or something like that.
How do people still not understand that local Fox affiliates are not Fox News?
Fox affiliate /= Fox News. Don't give credit where it is not due.
Oh, thanks for the correction. My bad. Seems the actual Fox News coverage was... god-awful. Good lord.
