Shooting in a Quebec City mosque

Reading Quebecers comments everywhere about Couillard and Trudeau saying Welcome to people locked in airports to the US (on TVA nouvelles, Journal De Montréal website etc)? All I can see is hatred for the most part. Sure it's a small pool but it also reflects from people I know IRL.

So, your source is your ass? Great!
You know you're a bigot, right?

Can we please NOT fucking do this right now ? This isn't time to start a war of provinces ffs

Anti-muslim bigotry is rampant everywhere in the western world. I keep reading horrible shit about refugees in every comments section of every newspaper, be it english ones or french ones. Stop this bullshit already.

Now is the time to focus on the victims. We are one country.

Fucking hell.

Just gave trump what he wanted.

Rip.

Assuming the shooters are non-Muslim Canadian Nationalists (which nobody has confirmed yet) , that would actually be the opposite of what Trump wants.

This makes it look like Trump is enabling anti-Muslim terrorism. That makes Trump look just as bad as the people he hates.

It's just... Fifteen years of "Islam is evil" "Islam is backwards" and being the demographic most politically advantageous to bash has made things so so bad for me and mine.

Western punditry decided to agree with Islamic terrorists and do their propaganda for them for sensationalism and ratings. I'm just depressed and anxious about pessimistic about the future my children will grow up in.

Because comments sections are known to be solid representations of a community's beliefs.

I've been living in Quebec City for nearly 15 years. It's a quiet place that has seen entire years with no murder. I don't think a mass shooting ever happened here either.

This feels unreal. I can't believe such a horrible hate crime of this scale just happened here. Fuck.

Trudeau better have a strong response for this. This is the stuff trump will definitely go in on.

Rest in peace. Reverse discrimination is going to be a big thing over the coming few days around where I live.

Best wishes.

I don't understand what you mean. This is the opposite of what Trump has been going on about.

Horrible :(

Watch Trudeau fuck it up like he has been doing as of late. I know he's learning on the job but there's only so much patience you can have when he's not strong enough in his convictions.

As Canadians, we need to stand up and show that this kind of political violence, or the rhetoric that leads to it, is not welcome here. This is the time to stand with our brothers and sisters.

Just some quick infos about Quebec City:

- It's largely a white city. Sainte-Foy has seen a growing Muslim community in the last 10 years.
- It is a provincial capital (lots of government white collar jobs).
- There is a military base nearby.
- It has voted Conservative for about 15 years, initially it was mostly for economic reasons (less taxes).
- The City is NOT nationalist, at least compared to the rest of the province (except Montreal). Is it the only francophone region that voted NO during the 1995 independence referendum.
- Radio talk shows have a pretty large impact compared to Montreal.
- Lately, radio talk shows start talking more and more about immigration, with some talking heads actively supporting Trump.

Same... over 20 years here and I don't think there's ever been a shooting in my city since I moved here. Some isolated cases of murders sure, but not like that...

It's not his convictions that aren't strong enough. It's that he is horrible at coordinating his thoughts and actions publically.

Wow. I didn't know this. How come ?

Most people I've met from Quebec city were sovereignists

Gosh: the second suspect stopped his car on a bridge. Police are being careful because they think it might have explosives inside.

Usually when shooters are taken in alive by police, they are not suicidal jihadists.

-Just tossing that around while we wait to figure out who the hell is responsible for this.

Really sad news. May God give them peace and their families patience to bare the immense loss.

I don't see anything on CNN or other channels here in the US. Just imagine if this was shooting by some 'muslim' and all channels would have had this as breaking news.

I have a mosque a couple blocks away from my home. I'm thinking I'll go leave a letter on their doorstep letting them know they're welcomed and loved here. Dunno what else to do tonight.

Is it the only francophone region that voted NO during the 1995 independence referendum.

Jesus, that was 22 years ago? The Comedy Network played Just for Laughs shows with comedians cracking jokes about it waaaay beyond that.

It is not easy to buy an automatic AK-47 in the US. You can legally buy a semi-automatic rifle and illegally modify it yourself, however.

Fucked up, RIP and condolences to the families of the dead :(

Quebec seems to be more prone to islamophobia compared to other regions of Canada for some reason. One of my hijab wearing friends was harassed by someone in Gatineau who kept referencing Charlie Hebdo. This was the first time she had ever been harassed for being Muslim in Canada.

I don't see how that is possible. It's not like we are loose with guns, and he was pretty clear yesterday about our values.

I don't understand why people hold him to impossible standards of action, and it's been really silly over the past couple days to watch this. He needs to show leadership, but even-handedness in denouncing these horrific actions, not increase the police state.

Just before I get banned or something, let me clarify my point of view.

In no case whatsoever, I would support what just happened in Sainte-Foy. I welcome all people around the world that comes to establish themselves here. The only thing I ask is that they respect our customs like they would ask of me if I were to go in live in their country.

My remarks were NOT aimed at starting a province war. I'm against Trump and his shenanigans. What I said is just something I noticed recently. Like I also said, because I did say it, that comments sections doesn't represents a whole population but I did a poor job of communicating that ("a small pool (of people)").

My condolences to the families of the victims. This should never happen in the first place and I fear that it'll be a growing trend.

I wish not to talk about it anymore.

I'm québécois myself btw.
