Short men make better boyfriends and husbands

Being a 5'6"-5'7" guy, being short is absolutely an unattractive trait. Along with being a minority, it means I have to work extra hard for women to even notice me.

If being short wasn't considered attractive, there wouldn't be a lot of short guys left.
Truth is that there is too much exaggeration. Being short or tall doesn't mean anything in most cases and in most situations.

Humans as a species are getting taller though. Those that are considered "short" nowadays would be "tall" in the middle ages.

The main thing wrong with it is that you outright said less attractive/short guys are less successful in life. And stated it as a fact no less. Not even just less successful in the dating scene, in life! So my life as a short, ugly guy is pre-destined to be less successful than some other random good looking tall dude's life? That's my lot in life, in your eyes! No free will for me.

I'm also ginger and balding... I'm basically fucked, aren't I?

Just think of it this way, it can't get any worse. Some inspirational words from Louis CK

Managers are typical taller too as people subconsciously take them more seriously.

Funny you say this. I'm 5'3 and I was a manager at Target for 5 years. I would often have people ask to "speak to someone else" when I would attempt to solve customer issues. It wasn't too frequent, but it happens.

I have a friend who is 6"5 and very skinny. I mean, not un healthy, but his form is just like that. He pretty much has no muscle. He does get made fun of by assholes. He gets called a ballerina, a twig and the usual, and more extremes shit like a "faggot model".

He shrugs it off, but it does get to him after a while. I know he has tried to gain muscle over the years, but hasn't been successfully. Some would say if he is happy with the way he is, fuck gaining muscle and those assholes who make fun of him, but the thing is that he has always wanted to get more muscular.

I got him in contact with a great trainer and dietitian. Hopefully he has results this time around.

Hopefully that helps for him, nothing worked for me until my metabolism started to slow down in my mid 20's. I got scared cause I gained like 40lbs so quickly and I started to go to the gym like crazy to compensate. I've still got a tiny bit of a gut but having built my upper body has evened things out. Gaining weight is a double edged sword when you're really skinny, all that weight can go to your midsection and thighs while your upper body is still skinny. It's a horrible look, you look skinny-fat, which is worse than just being straight up skinny. Hopefully the trainer and dietician can help your buddy. I used to shrug those comments off too, but deep down it stings.

bunny - it's pretty easy to make laws banning discrimination based on height. Just say you can't discriminate based on height.

We're not talking about attractiveness here, we're talking about height. This isn't subjective. Someone who is below 5'7 is short in the United States. There's no getting around that. Furthermore, it isn't right that us shorties get subjected to a slew of bigoted comments such as this one:

I know a short guy who took pleasure in firing people for being one minute late starting their shift. He was married at least 3 times too.
His last wife had him arrested on a bogus battery charge and stole all his stuff when he was in prison.

The implication from this poster is disgusting to say the least. Being short isn't what magically made that manager an asshole. This type of shit wouldn't be tolerated for other groups, why is it ok to make these comments about short folks?

Tall privilege, sorry.

I know how you feel, I get a lot of shit for being ginger.
At least I'm not short tho

I'm 5'4" and I have no problem with it at all. I'm happy with my height. No one makes fun of me for being short either. Oh and people have asked me a few times if I am a wrestler or a fighter. :O I guess I have that kind of look.

WAY too far. No need for that personal shit.

Oh no, I gave a girl on Neogaf the same treatment she dished out to other people. What ever will I do. Uglier people are less attractive than prettier ones, just like short people are less attractive than taller ones, as per her research notes. I don't see the controversy here. Clue me in on what I did wrong - I'm not seeing it.

And Sirpop, attractiveness and height go hand in hand for many.

Is that an Orangutan in your avatar?

This is me

I dunno man. There's a difference between someone posting a general statement about their personal preference for attractiveness and you then singling that person out for their appearance. Surely you can see that's mean? (also not true)

Yes, I edited the post. I will keep my opinions in my head and not broadcast them from now on. It's not polite.

Except height can be quantified while "attractiveness" cannot, even if height is a facet of attractiveness. So you cant write a law banning attraction based discrimination, but you can absolutely write a law banning height discrimination. Eye color is also a facet of attractiveness for some people too. You can easily write a law banning discrimination based on eye color.

Meh. Girls dig the lanky look. Jokes on the assholes making fun of him.

It's better to be attractive than not. It's not a value judgment thing.

When black people were discriminated against in the US, we had the civil right's movement and began getting rid of that.

Looking at recent events, I'd say it's safer (and better, but not in the value judgment way, but rather in the better-for-life way), generally, to be white than black, still. Black people get shot, get put in jail, get looked down on, have far more negative things happen to them than nonblack people.

I'm not white, but I'd rather be Asian than black in the US, not because it's actually BETTER in any value-judgment way, but because it just sucks far more to be black. I'd have a much higher risk of getting arrested, pulled over, harassed, etc. It sucks to be black in the US. It really does, just like it's generally much better to be white in the US.

We want to get rid of racism by equalizing everyone's social rights and perceptions.

But, people here aren't advocating equality in appearance. So, yeah, I think it's pretty silly that people are being salty about not being tall, unless everyone is advocating that we get rid of "lookism," which I have no idea how that would work unless we all looked exactly alike. But it doesn't sound like people have any problem with the fact that being attractive is better, they just want to change the definition of attractiveness to fit them.

It's not the same. We'll always be bias about attractiveness, and right now a guy's height is a big factor in his physical attractiveness. Height is a direct factor in attractiveness (for women, too-- being too tall is often considered unattractive). Race is not a direct factor in intelligence/capability whatever else racism implies.
It's not solely about attractiveness.

Short people also are less successful period solely because of their height.

Telling someone to get over any injustice of a born, unable to change, thing is pretty funny tho.

As a pretty short (5'8") ex-wrestler I can confirm that there is a short guy stocky wrestler look that is pretty common. I think it's that the shorter you are it's rather easier to have the same amount of muscle look more compact and bulky on a smaller frame. Friends of mine who are taller, but at the same strength level look much leaner. Plus since the sport is based on weight classes (without height advantages) so wrestling / fighting sports tend to appeal to smaller guys. Thus short and athletic tends to make people think of combat sports.

Why should short people be paid less and why should they stop being salty about it?

The problem is "lol @ the salty short people in here" is not the tone you want to take when you're simply stating things as they are. It, to me (and apparently to others), STRONGLY implies that you actively want to keep the status quo and dislike attempts to change it.

I told my girlfriend about this and she said she needs me to reach stuff in the upper cabinets.

Gotta love backslashbunny saying that height discrimination is fine because it is the way things are, but racism is somehow different to her because she doesn't want to own up to her own atrocious logical conclusion.

Shorter means it takes them more time to do house work (i guess)

Entering a relationship with an uneducated woman means she will most certainly earn less

How's that shocking?
