SHOTS FIRED: EA responds to Bobby Kotick's Comments

EA has seemed to have managed the franchise well since its creation 15 years ago. Shift seems to have been received well and EA was happy with its sales numbers. Do you think Guitar Hero will still be considered a main franchise for Activision in 2020?
Probably not. COD - absolutely. NfS decline happened this generation though. Even Shift was rushed and unpolished, even though the core of the game was solid it was not released in a finished state.

Do people also complain that non-EA team sports games like Pro Evolution Soccer and MLB The Show are released every year? Shockingly games like Madden are portrayals of sports that have one season from beginning to end PER YEAR.

I don't complain at all it's just funny that people bring up COD's yearly installments when a large chunk of EA's portfolio does the exact same thing. And let's not forgot EA bought out the NFL license to kill off any competition. People are acting like EA is some shining white knight here when they're just as guilty.

More like thats what the NFL probably wanted. I cant imagine them not being the decision makers in that situation.

As far as i can tell, CoD is the franchise thats "in the process of being destroyed by Koticks hubris." Right now CoD is strong but that can easily change with too much interference from Kotick. From what i remember reading Modern Warfare wouldnt have even happened if Kotick got his way. It would have been yet another WW2 shooter (gee what happened to those.. they were so strong just a few short years ago.. now everyone is in love with this Oscar Mike garbage). i dont like the games that West and Zampella make but i have to give them credit because they know when their audience is getting burned out and how to change things up to keep them satisfied. Kotick has no such knowledge because hes a widget huckster.. an excellent one in fact.. but hes not a creator.

Oh no they di-int.

High five, EA.

:lol Who needs games eh? This shit is hilariously entertaining

Amen. I will gladly sit in the comfort of my home here and watch this douchestorm brew instead of playing either of their games at the moment.

Best response ever. Not to defend EA, because the have their own reputation, but I am routing for the lesser of two weevils.

Plus what he said was accurate, and talking shit while not making shit up makes his comments actually valid and not just spiteful.

Garriott had everything to do with that festering piece of shit, so don't go blaming EA. Anyone who says EA killed Origin is sniffing cocaine cut with draino.
Thats is true in a way. Garriott is ultimately to blame because he was the one that sold his company to EA.

EA has way broader and more sustainable portfolio than Activision has.

Activision only rely on the same 2-4 names and milk it to the ground. It sucks that so many suckers still buy their shit though. Lucky for Activision, they have Blizzard on their back to give them life support any time when their COD or Guitar Hero die.

Didn't EA just spend a hundred million dollars on a MMORPG that lasted a month?

Warhammer Online? or APB? I seem to loose track of all of the MMORPG attempts that EA has made.

I don't think EA was quite that financially involved, but yeah that shit was pretty bad. Monumental failure.

I understand the dude's point and why he was saying it. However, it is still the pot and the kettle calling each other black. EA has a history of its own hubris ruining shit.
And? No one at EA is going to deny their past, and the new current management at EA has been pretty fucking awesome. This is about the current forms of the companies. That's what's relevant now.

EA didn't publish APB, they were the distributor. Not sure if they ended up losing big like Realtime Worlds did (it was self-published).

Also Warhammer was finally making money according to the last thing that I read about it. They cut their costs significantly by merging servers, so now they aren't spending stupid amounts of cash trying to kill WoW and have settled for making some easy dough off a subscriber base of a few hundred thousand.

Jesus, I never thought that I'd be defending EA :lol

Few hundred thousand? It is pretty unlikely they are even at six digits at this point. A few hundred thousand would have been massively profitable a long time ago.
