Diablo will likely require many more resources just due to servers.

HOWEVER, for a series like this I doubt opportunity cost will be a big deal. They did those GBA ports of SNES games, but more importantly the games ARE massively popular and reliably sold for years. It's not unreasonable that even fairly straight ports can bring in quite a bit of cash, even if Diablo III's probably a better priority for now.

Blizzard does have money and labor in great abundance (let's ignore that their employment would be contrary to their business sense here); the resource Blizzard lacks is: understanding, an intimate and self-evident appreciation of interacting mechanics. Blizzard has proven that they no longer understand Diablo on any other than a superficial level.

I don't think people realize that Diablo series was made by Blizzard North, which was a separate studio from Blizzard. They were developing Diablo 3 in the early 00s but Blizzard shut them down and layer everyone off.

At the very least they should put the original Diablo on PS1 classics for download. It was the best version of the first game.

If by best version you mean absolutely hands-down the worst version, sure.
