I have no problems with the psp and i am really only interested in legend of heroes and vp, but i am kind of afraid of what it will do to my ds experience, does anyone who has both the psp and ds find the games on the ds playable after they played on the psp?

when i first got my psp after having my ds for roughly a month, i honest to god thought i would never, ever play the DS again. the graphics on ridge racer blew me away, and i just looked forward to the possibilities of playing console-style graphics on the go. now though, finished gta, i still play ridge racer on occasion, but i still play the DS MUCH, MUCH more than the psp. before psp fans attack I KNOW THERE ARE GAMES TO PLAY, but most of them dont interest me. yeah yeah bla bla non games ds has b grade games ect, fuck it, i like the DS games more

If you are only interested in 2 games, i wouldn't get a PSP.
If you want the PSP anyway, no it won't make you appreciate your DS any less.
The only thing that annoys me about my DS more after playing PSP is the sound quality. The sound on PSP is just too much better (not louder, just better) IMO.
The systems complement themselves really well.

I go back and forth between the two with no problems.

Currently playing Exit & Katamari on PSP, while playing Slime Mori Mori DQ2 and Mario & Luigi 2 on DS.

QFT. You need a PSP 1.5 to play Wipeout, this game is that good. Then upgrade to 2.0 and enjoy the web browser and the videos on the go, while still playing DS games. This is what I did.

No, don't get a PSP for only 2 games, it's far too expensive. An ipod video to complement your DS is IMO a far better investment.

Although I do understand that sometimes a game comes out that you simply must have, if the PSP has one of those for you then by all means, buy the system.

You also buy systems for their future prospects along with their current game selection. Since the PSP and DS should get a full 4-5 year lifespan there will certainly be a large number of AAA games on each in every genre throughout those years.

You can apply that to every system as well. I mean has there ever been a console/handheld period that wasn't worth the price of the system? Maybe 3D0 or Jaguar but that's about it IMO.

do you still play 2d or mediocre looking games on your console/pc? if so, i think you're ds experience won't be hindered. i can still enjoy 8-bit games so there're no problems for me regardless of the platform if the gameplay is there.

of course that's just me. otherwise you can just wait for drinky or maf to come in and make their obligatory answer (which is inevitably going to be the right answer since they're among the more popular characters on gaf) :)

There really is no problem owning both. Personally I wouldn't advise buying it for those two games though.

VP I am probably going to buy, but only because I never played it on PS1.

But Legend of Heroes I have heard is crap. But I would encourage you to buy a PSP still if you have the money. Games will come for it...eventually...

I've had a DS since March and bought a PSP about 3 weeks ago. Despite having quite a lot of games for the PSP already, I can safely say it has in no way hindered my enjoyment or cut down my use of the DS. In a way, it has made me appreciate the DS even more.

Also, do not get a PSP for Legend of Heroes. I'm a hardcore RPG nut who'll play just about anything in the genre, and yet I cannot recommend getting a PSP for LoH. Wait for VP, at which point the PSP will probably have dropped in price.

I bought one after I had a DS and it slowed my DS play down for a bit, but after I got tired of it I sold it and now just play my DS.

They both work great, and complement eachother ---- the biggest thing you have to worry about is both the DS and PSP having an influence on your home-console experience.

I've been a portable gamer for a while, since GBA was so damn good ---- but with both DS and PSP, I can go months without any core home-console experience...
That's good and bad, but helps you appreciate the few home-console games that are truely great.

PSP's beautiful screen draws you in. But after you take a break from Lumines the party dies down to a crawl. DS has an overall great lineup of games, PSP has yet to do so although 2006 looks promising.

Answer: Hold off on a PSP until more games or a price drop. DS still has a boatload of games coming out and you arent missing out on anything by purchasing a PSP at this moment unless you have a strong desire to watch Labyrinth on UMD.

My thought exactly. It's hard to get back to the couch when you can play anywhere.

An ipod video costs more than a psp. As far as I know, it's a pretty straightforward procedure to convert video to load on your psp, right? Since I've got a 20 gig mp3 player I'm considering getting a psp for portable movieplay and future games.

If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't have bought a PSP. I don't use the media features of the system, and the games that are out right now don't appeal to me. Despite the gorgeous design, screen, and console-like graphics the PSP offers, I have absolutely no problem turning to my DS (and even my Micro) on a daily basis.

With an iPod you also get at least a 30GB HD. With the PSP you pay at least $70 extra for a measly 1GB memory card. Granted, the screen is bigger and you don't have to even think about things like subtitles being viewable, but the storage issue should be a serious consideration if you want to watch a lot of video.

in conclusion, if you are a everyday gaf nintendo marketer...don't buy a psp.

also don't buy one for Legend of Heroes. Seriously.

I don't think that's a very fair jab/conclusion. I'm in no way, shape or form a Nintendo fan. Quite a few people in this thread own both and have given honest and reasonable opinions on why the PSP isn't something you should just rush out and buy.

yea, maybe you're right. i don't know why i went into defense mode about it as i'm somewhat pissed at mine right now (not working right). either way, just don't buy one for the rpg's as they are not good. if you were apeshit for wipeout, lumines or something like that, it would be worth it. even gta is great on the go, but it's not as good as san andreas at home. it looks like a lot of good stuff is coming but he probably shouldn't pay a premium for the reasons he mentions.

Did you buy a GameCube? Do you regret it now?

I bought a gamecube simply for SSBM, I really regret it now as the price of the gc is almost free. I should have waited. Even though i have quite a few games for the gc(like f-zero, RE4 and parer mario), the ones i really played are Baten Katos and SSBM.

1) I don't have a DS, but I have both a PSP and a GBA SP+ and enjoy them both. Even though the technical capabilities are VASTLY different between them, I don't find it hard to switch between them when I feel like playing something different. With that being said, though, there are certain games on the GBA which are simply unplayable now -- Mario Kart Advance is incredibly disappointing next to Ridge Racer and Burnout Legends. (Strangely, I still really enjoy Racing Gears Advance -- probably because it isn't a first-person racer.)

2) Buying a PSP for only two games seems like a poor choice from a cost effectiveness point of view. If you are buying the system because you want to enjoy it for the next several years, go for it. If you are convinced that you only want to play two games ever, then don't bother. If price is a HUGE deal for you, then you might want to wait another six months for a (rumored) price drop around E3.

I replayed Mario Kart Advance yesterday at my brother's. Man, it was really bad. Mario Kart DS just raised the bar too high.

I threw the cart in about a week after I got Mario Kart DS just to compare, and the difference was staggering. I don't think I can ever play MK Advance again. It feels and looks like it's running around 10 fps.

Obviously the majority of your PSP stuff is going to look better, and that screen is sexy as hell. That said, I have a lot more fun on my DS at the moment. I'll go with some of the others that say its not worth buying for just two games. Try and figure out whats coming out down the line or what's out already (Lumines, GGX, Socom) that you'd want to check out as well.

yea, Socom is incredible too. There are better games than GAF lets on. But you seem to be centered on RPGs and that's not so great.

I dunno if you should get a psp if you are only interested in those games. There are other good games too (psp library is underated by gaf and ds library overrated). Anyway, I have no problems playing my DS after playing my PSP.

since i can't create a post yet grr!....i wanted to ask you guys what that thing is i read about in some game mag about putting your dvds onto the psp. that would be awesome...and how much is it i wonder?

its free, on google.com

Heh, i have bought consoles on a couple of games before, and most of the time i generally dont regret it until they drop the price in a month. And i never said that those are the only two games i would ever get, its is just based on the games i know are coming out for it. Could someone give me a list of rpg's coming out on the psp. And does anyone know if you can transfer you save file from the Suikoden 1&2 psp to the ps2 suiko 3?

I own both the PSP and the DS.

I've got to say that if I had to keep only one it would easily be the DS. In some ways the PSP doesn't really compare to the DS in my eyes. Even though on paper the PSP seems like the obvious choice, in reality it hasn't worked out that way for me.

The DS just seems to offer the true handheld experience. Games I can often play quickly and easily while on the go. The PSP on the other hand seems to offer an experience that is similar to your consoles at home but not quite there. Maybe it's the loading times, or the somtimes half baked controls that are required for the PSP. Something about it just hasn't connected with me though.

The only true gems i've found for the PSP are Ridge Racers and Hot Shots:Open Tee. Other than those two I think the rest of the software is nothing special.

With all of that said I still like having the PSP. But i'm also one of those freaks that feels like they need to own every piece of hardware thats released.

Kinda funny. When I think of half baked controls, I think of the DS not the PSP. Also the only gems I think that are on the DS are meteos, castlevania and perhaps animal crossing. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

Yes, I've already played my PSP more than any other handheld I've ever owned.

While DS is a good system I haven't touched it since Mario Kart came out.
