Should I buy multiplats on PC or PS4?

You need to upgrade you GPU with you want to game on PC. Really a bad time to be upgrading. I would wait to 20nm gpu start coming out.

So i would buy PS4 games until you upgrade your PC.

That's like 6-8 months out. It's never a bad time to upgrade a rig.
 
If you have a powerful enough PC to play these games properly on it I can't imagine any scenario where a console would be the better choice.

Not putting down console gaming. I'm just saying if you already have a PC good enough what's the point really.

Friends I guess. But I don't really have any RL friends on either system but I do have a good group of peeps on PC which I guess could be a factor.
 
Depends on the game. If it's something you want to mod a lot and have amazing graphics, PC, otherwise PS4. Especially if all your friends are on PS4. BF4 I'd say PC unless your friends are all on PS4. AC4, probably PS4. Watch Dogs, eh, as long as PS4 visuals are close to PC I think PS4 would be fine. Probably the most important factor for you will be getting multiplayer games on the same platforms your friends are getting them on, unless you don't care, in which case PC.
 
There's also the consideration for some titles that are FMV heavy and single player only. There's a good chance that the PS4 version of the title will have higher bitrate movies. Nothing takes me out of the game more than having a crisp image turn into a macroblocky blurry cutscene that looks worse than actual gameplay.
 
As everyone has said, PC for single player but PS4 for games with your friends. PC is usually the superior version, but nothing beats playing games with your friends.
 
Even if your pc is only about as powerful as ps4 right now, remember if you ever upgrade your pc in the next ... say 8 years , you just upgraded the visuals of all your games.. Watch Dogs, AC4 etc will look exactly the same on ps4 8 years from now, you can't upgrade their visuals by spending money

If you buy 6-7 games on ps4 in a year then you'll have paid as much in console platform premium than it costs to just buy a hd7870 as a stopgap measure.
 
I would go case by case.

It is entirely possible that some games will perform better on PS4 than your current PC. Or, the PS4 versions might not be up to snuff.

Worth keeping in mind that games are much cheaper on PC as well.

No, you can not as proven by the 580 beating out the 7850.

Come to think of it, Titan being a large amount faster than a HD7970 Ghz Edition bar the fact they have around the same theoretical peak floating point power also proves your statement is false.

I would recommend not even going with the stopgap measure. Whats the point?

Just turn down Ambient Occlusion or use a cheaper form of AA. He will be just fine until 10000 or 800 series comes out.

580 is quite a capable card and comparable to what is in the PS4.

I'm also stuck waiting to upgrade the gpu.
Current gpus blow the ps4 out of the water but with the gtx 800 series and new set of amd cards just around the corner I can imagine how much faster they would be.
 
My default answer would be PC, but I'm actually going to hold out for the verdict on AC4 and WD, as both are Ubi and after the AC3 performance woes on PC, there's every possibility they may run better on the new console. But for BF3 and everything else, go PC, unless as already said, you've got friends you play MP with on PS4.
 
I'ma have to go with PC on this. But A) streaming is super easy, B) PC games are sooo much cheaper, and C) all my friends are on PC. I only have one friend who's signed onto their PS3 in the last week, in fact.
 
I want some games along with a PS4, so Il probably buy Watch_Dogs along with Asassin's Creed 4 for the PS4 even though I can play them on the PC. Besides that, after all the slowdowns PC owners were reporting about AC3, I don't really trust Ubisoft Kiev to do a good job with AC4. So far they've been terribad in optimizing games for the PC.
 
For me, I have always been more comfortable with a controller in my hand on the couch with surround sound and the plasma tv than at my computer with a mouse and keyboard. Most of my friends are currently on the 360, but I have been gravitating toward multi-platform games on the PS3 because I play better with the dualshock.

My choice is simple, I am going with the PS4.

This pretty much. Honestly up until now I was torn about getting Watch Dogs, The Division, and Battlefield 4 on PS4 but after reading this thread, I personally will use the PS4 for console exclusives only and go PC for all multiplatform games (unless the PS4 version is way better somehow).

Just a word of warning: AC has run even worse on console than it did on PC. You probably won't escape slowdowns by going PS4.
 
I'd say generally Ps4 except for those games you know will be better with KB&M or you know will have big modding support. And assuming you already game on PC you'll know which those are likely to be. If there are individual games that are both (highly moddable, KB&M, your friends are into it) then make individual calls on which matters most.

I don't think your 580 will be that overpowered to breeze through next gen games at higher detail levels than PS4, plus the PC ports are still likely to be using console assets.

So anything you will play with friends, or will play well with a controller, I'd get on PS4 and enjoy the benefits you've already outlined for those.




I'm the opposite, I hate modding stuff. When I upgrade my GPU (might be a while, only just bought a 7950), I'm tempted to go nvidia for their automatic configuration of games plus potentially steaming to shield or similar down the line.
 
I'm conflicted as well. BF4 is a no brainier though. PC obviously. Watch Dogs? Not sure. I don't trust Ubisoft when it comes to PC.
 
OP with a 580, why are you restricting yourself to only 1080p.

You need to supersample, bro/brah.

I'm sticking with PC for multiplats. Plus, think of the Oculus Rift if you end up getting one (I am). It's just a better choice all around, not to mention cheaper games.
 
Btw, reading this thread makes me think MS and Sony should stop exclusivity and games coming to the other console for a limited time. What they should do is spend money to prevent games coming to PC at the same time, thereby encouraging users to buy on console. PC is potentially a bigger competitor to PS4 than Xbox one (and same for MS)

(Just thinking out loud - obviously not good for us, just purely from a platform owners' perspective)

It actually is right now. Everything being released is essentially a stopgap measure.

700 series and Haswell are without question, and 9000 series is shaping up to be as well.

2014/2015 look to be the years to upgrade.
 
If your friends are playing the multiplat on PS4 and you want to play it with them then buy it on PS4. This really isn't that hard, just do it on a game to game basis. People on this forum are so daft sometimes.
 
I like the fact that my PC games will follow me for life, no matter how many new gaming PCs I build for myself. You can't do that with a console.
 
From the things you've written are important to you I'd say get BF4 on PC and the other two on PS4.

That's how I feel. When I upgrade my PC I want a generational leap. I went from a 9800 GTX to a 580.

I very much doubt Sony see's PC as a competitor as the PC is a much smaller market, plus theres many people who still play on console/PS4 rather then PC, for the simple reason that they aren't graphic whores and aren't sensitive to these things (including frame rate 30fps) and doesn't impact their experience at all, therefore stay on consoles because of this

This actually includes myself, though I do have a PC for indie games and PC exclusives.
 
I am a ps4 guy but i still will buy many multiplats on PC simply because in the end pc games will last. You can still for the most part play the oldest pc games out there and dont have to deal with something like "lolz FU no backwards compatibility for you in PS6/xboxtwo lolol" and "lose" your games.

Not sure if you're being serious. The PC is as much of a competition as the Oya (or whatever that thing is called)
 
Considering your PC should give you better performance/visuals, go with that unless it's a MP game and your friends are only on PSN. I guess remote play could be a deciding factor if you intend to use it a lot.
 
I have been wondering about this too.

My gut feel is that given the graphics are the same and frame rate is 60FPS I would lean towards PS4 version, for the more robust platform features and controller-first MP community.

So likely I will become a PS4 gamer primarily for the next 2 years or so, and once PCs surpass PS4 sufficiently I will switch back to PC.
