Should I buy this Leather Biker Jacket?

I don't wear jeans because I'm not a miner. Cargo pants are out because I'm not in the military. Don't wear tshirts because I'm not low class worker with an ill temperament or army medic. I threw out my peacoat since I've never stepped foot on a Navy vessel. Sadly I no longer ride horses so my jodhpurs are left unused. I'm essentially naked.

Lol, I lost it at jodhpurs.

to be fair it could use some tassels ala dennis hopper

don't worry, hedi's got you covered

only 4.2k, too!

If you think that $5k jacket is pretty damn worth it, then buy it. It's your money. Why do you have to ask here? You honestly thought that most people would agree with that choice?

$190

well clothing is more than just the look of something, the feel matters. whether or not that is worth the difference is up to the person buying, but there is a pretty obvious difference when you have it in your hands and on your body.

and what is with these sites and their dark knight jackets.

Hedi Slimane, former creative designer of Dior Homme, took over. He got rid of the Yves, to bring back the brand to it's roots when the ready-to-wear line was called Saint Laurent and the couture line was Yves Saint Laurent. Eventually, when the couture line is re-introduced, he will call that line Yves Saint Laurent.

Thanks, I knew Hedi moved there but noot the rest.

now, if you want something really avant garde...
How about a ring "made from the abdomen skin of Sruli Recht, mounted to a 24 carat gold band." It's only €350 000...

Or how about a seal vest for €9300

Why wouldn't you just go to an actual motorcycle shop and buy an actual motorcycle jacket for $350 but get it one size too small or just get it tailored/fitted by a leather guy? You'll get the same "fonzie starter-kit" effect, and you'll save thousands of dollars.

And no, a motorcycle jacket isn't supposed to be made out of the finest, softest, supple leather. It's supposed to be made out of tough leather.

To the OP. It depends entirely on how you look. If you look like a normal guy, that jacket won't look good at all on you. You basically have to be model material to pull something like that off well. Though I genuinely don't get why you wouldn't get a jacket that looks almost like it, but costs 20% of it. a 5000 dollar leather jacket is something that will only impress the people in the gaf fashion thread.

I'm not going for the fonz look.

I'm going for the Terminator 1 Police station shoot out look. This jacket matches it very closely, combined with the (no doubt) quality, it's well worth it particularly as it's an investment piece.

By investment, I don't only mean that this will last for many years, but it's more encouraging for things like, you know, going out and having a good time i.e. an investment in myself, as opposed to investing in console to play an fps + mechs game which will result in me sitting at home at weekends, which is not an investment in myself.

if you define yourself trough an investment in clothes than just do it and don't ask broke ass gaffers.
(5k is the rent of 2 years for me just to compare)
btw, no one here can tell how it will look on you and no one that will see you in this will know you paid that much money.

if you wanna do it, than just do.

these facts aside, i don't like this one, its just plain ugly :/

btw, why not buying a real bike with this money, that way you won't sit at home.

5K for a leather jacket is a steal. It's probably some inferior quality leather that will rip the second you put it on. I don't deal with these Sears-priced types of jackets anymore. I roll only with high-end 20K+ jackets. Now those ARE a sound investment, because not only will they pull any bird I look at and their mothers, after I donate them to charity once the season is over, I get a personal visit from Bono telling me how awesome I am, get a free U2 concert (OK, I'll be honest, it gets old after 5 times, but still, it's a nice gesture and it's thhe thought that counts, right?) and he even donates 30K to me, which goes directly into my new jacket and the extra money goes towards a well-deserved vacation in the Bahamas to relax from rocking so much awesomeness for one season and get ready for a new season of ripping and tearing.

I bought a custom-made U-Boat commander-style leather jacket a few years back, and at nearly $1000 it remains the most extravagant purchase I've ever made. It probably always will be.

If the OP likes that style of jacket, I'd say go for it. Maybe look for a less absurdly-priced variant first, though.

"Only $5,000".

"An investment piece".

I will literally never, ever understand. My leather jacket was $300 at Danier and it's the best fucking leather jacket ever, like it was tailor made and it will last forever.

OP is out to lunch with the rest of the fashion world. Apologies for the rant.

OP you buy that jacket. Spend 5k on it and enjoy the hell out of it. Just make sure it will be a leather jacket that you will love 20 years from now.

Do people like alligator skin?

I've never worn it, but I quite fancy this alligator skin trench coat. (Again, not too bad at £79000).

The feel, I think, would be amazing, and this is even more of an investment piece for the wardrobe.

I started off reading this thread with a rather judgemental mindset, but now I'm of the opinion that GAF isn't really the best place for a question like this. It's a matter of perspective.

What I mean is, say someone were to drop a few grand building a gaming PC (like the Large Pixel Collider rig). As long as the person isn't spending beyond their means, I would applaud and be envious of it, and I'm sure many PC-GAF would as well. Someone else who owns a netbook or tablet at most would look at that and think it's insane.

Eh, you can drop the act.

You had something with the first question.
Or the OP is Johnny Weir.
