should I change my PS4 + PSV for a Switch?

Everyone has some insane moments in life, time to shine op. Regret will follow, but go ahead.

Cause it was abandoned.

Well the Wii was really the only Nintendo console to get a redesign. Remember this?

NES was redesigned as well.

But Nintendo hardware does tend to get revised. They revise all of their handhelds, which I thought the majority of Switch owners were referring to Switch as?

Ive also been all digital and have about 30 digital titles but few I feel I would like to replay anyway

This is why I'm not buying anything digitally on my PS4. First of all it at least here in Finland it is usually 10-15 euros cheaper to buy games from a store compared to PSN. Secondly PS4 game resell value is around 20-40 euros so with 30 games you would have at least 600 euros worth of games to sell.

NOPE I'm a big fan of the Switch but it's gonna be until at least 2018 before it has a solid library with a steady stream of new titles, meanwhile I'm drowning in amazing PS4 games right now.

Yeah, this. While I turned around my pre-launch thoughts about the Switch (I love it now and finally see the huge promise it has), it still has an uphill battle because Nintendo. Meanwhile, the PS4 has long come to gaming nirvana fruition and has a ton on the horizon as well.

I can see a household having a PS4 and a Switch pretty easily. That combo has the potential to be pretty great, if Switch can actually deliver on future games. Right now, it's a pretty barren wasteland besides Zelda, though that game is awesome.

As others have said, it sounds like you've already made your mind up, but the problem seems to be the value of the trade. Otherwise, if you're not invested in your PS4 or Vita, go for it.

So basically that's not knowing Nintendo at all. Switch might not get a revised version like the Wii U.

Hmm... I definitely definitely recommend a Switch, I think it's amazing hardware with my favorite game in years, and a bright future ahead of it, but I don't necessarily know that I'd recommend giving up a PS4 for one. There's not going to be much heavy-hitters on the system aside from Zelda for a hot second, and you might regret not having a PS4 in the interim. I might say my reccomended course of action would just be to save for the Switch for a few months instead, as I'm sure it's going to make a killer console to have alongside a PS4.

Switch is kinda the second version of the WiiU.
Puts it all into the gamepad and adds detachable wiimotes.

Plays the same games too ;)

Will be nice if Switch plays Splatoon 2 or Mario Odyssey too, but nope.

Ultimately if you don't have any games that you're looking forward to with both PS4 and Vita, then you should sell. Though you should definitely sell the items yourself and get some better returns. Depending on the stock situation of the Switch in your area you may be given a bit more time to think on this decision anyway.

Damn, it's not even an old launch PS4 but a four month old slim. And a Vita with a $100 memory card in it. And an extra $50 on top of that. Might as well send the guy your bank account numbers and a set of house keys while you're at it, OP.

I wouldn't even dream of doing that, but if you want a Switch that bad then it's your prerogative so go for it.

I just don't see the point on doubling down and being loyal to one platform.

Lol hell no, what kind of offer is that. Buy a Switch when it's in retail and you can afford it without losing two mature and essential platforms like the PS4 and vita.

Did you read where he said he's not interested in any PS4/V games anymore?

The problem here isn't the viability of the platform he owns.

The problem here is the bad deal for a Switch.

I'd drop the Vita and save up for the Switch myself. More games by that time too.

Keep the PS4 and get rid of vr. That will more than cover a switch.

Edit: oh vita! Not vr. No dont. Switch isn't that much. Save until the holidays and get a good bundle deal.

Trading a ps4 for a switch straight up is a bad idea. Odds are there is something either in the existing library or future library for the ps4 that will interest you. Add in the fact that we do not know how 3rd parties are going to support the switch.

Honestly I just wanted an excuse to use that old gif lol. I think the switch will get a redesign, but it will come later than most think. I could see holiday 2018 sense the 3ds will officially be dead and buried by then.

Help gaf, got an opportunity to Change my PS4 500gb slim + PS Vita OLED 64GB memory + 89$ for a Switch

Im not sure If Im caught up in the current hype of Switch and Zelda. I know I would give up a Huge available library for just a few games at the moment. Ive also been all digital and have about 30 digital titles but few I feel I would like to replay anyway

I have been commuting on train 3hours per Day and traveling hotels flights 1 week per month, but changing job now and Will almost only play switch in the home

I like to play on a handheld, makes it feel more personal and individual and immersive. I really like indies, would love to play titles like binding of isac, stardew valley on the switch. Having zelda/mario etc would not hurt either

Grew up with N64 and have much nostalgia for Nintendo, but been a sony gamer since ps2. I have doughters now, oldest 3,5 years. Would feel good to play Nintendo games with them in some years from now

There is no game I really look forward to on ps4,/ ps vita. I pretty much bought ps4 4months ago to play metal gear solid V, street fighter V, some racers.(and loved them all)

Not sure If this would be too impulse buy and I regret it down the road. Value wise I guess its not that great. Also abit worried about the current HW problem with Switch that I read about.

I also have Sony gold headset which Will be a left over..

Too own both platforms is not an option, I really like to be invested in just one platform (company) at time

Needs to make the decision during today. Decisons decisons. Im never impulse buy anything but this time I really feel like it..

**UPDATED OP**

Ok I should probably have put more time into the OP but I was stressed, here is the full value proposition

Im in Sweden, prices are completely different here

With the current Exchange between dollar and Swedish crone

The price of a new Switch is 3600 SEK in sweden.

3600 SEK = 399,54$

I bought my Ps4 at back friday for

2200 SEK = 244$

I bought my VITA + 64 memory card for 1500 SEK = 166$

The trade in with Gamestop is - trade the ps4 slim and pay Another 2000 SEK / 222$ for a Switch

Hence, what I loose of my Ps4 is 600 SEK = 66$ and I used it for 4 months

Im Selling the vita by my own, I get maximum 1200 SEK = 133$

Makes it even worse :D Would be the ps4 + vita + 89$ for the Switch!
If the price of the Switch would be 299 as in US, I would trade Ps4 + vita + getting 10$ for it.

I am happy with the trade in value, but what is wrong with the deal is the retail price of the Switch.

Going on the bolded... Yes. You can always buy a PS4 Pro later when they price drop to replay your old digital PSN games.

Did you read where he said he's not interested in any PS4/V games anymore?

There have been plenty of times where nothing announced for a console I'm interested in.

Then they announce more games, and something hits, and I look forward to more games.

It is very short-sighted to even consider making a terrible deal because right this instant you don't look forward to anything. And for me that's why I'd completely ignore the "I'm not interested" comments.

I know people who bought an n64 multiple times, rebuying when another game came out. They were fucking idiots. Couldn't see past a week ahead of them.

Don't ever sell full platforms for another platform. You will regret it at some point.

Just save for a Switch and enjoy having a richer gaming ecosystem with multiple platforms to play as many games as you can.

You are giving up a lot of features, exclusives and more by giving up your PS4 and PSV for the Switch. If you are going to go ahead with this just at least try and sell privately to get more money, don't trade them in.

I love my Switch but it isn't worth giving those up IMO.

You seem intent on doing it, I mean just the fact that you'd even consider a trade with those terms, so yeah, do it.

Update us in a few months how it all turned out though

I get you, but this is where I tailor advice on the preference of the poster.

To be fair, I don't think he should sell his PS4. But if time is an issue, as he said, downsizing to one console isn't a terrible idea.

The issue is the terrible deal.

Like I said, I would keep the PS4, sell the Vita, and save up for the Switch ideally. But the time he has the funds the Switch library will also be much better.

But if he wants to do, he should at least get a better deal. That deal is horrible.

I'm honestly not sure how the PS4 has pretty much nothing that speaks to you though. If the PS4 isn't doing it for you, I hope you really like Nintendo's games.

I'm in the same boat as OP in this regard. While I've been an "all console" gamer since the psx/n64/saturn days, I have finally given up on Sony, as I simply do not enjoy their games any longer. I'm not bashing the quality of their titles, but they do nothing for me now. I am bored by their output. I play games to have fun, and starting with this generation, I have not had fun with any Sony title. While they may have been powerful experiences, I have not really enjoyed playing them. As of such, I have dropped Sony from my gaming ecosystem. I am now a Nintendo/Microsoft gamer.

I know you like to invest in one company at a time but I would say keep the PS4 for 3rd party games because who knows if Nintendo Switch will get that support. Get the Switch for Nintendo exclusive if they speak to you more then PlayStation exclusive.

Wait until Christmas, when the switch will inevitably get a decent price drop. The insane high prices are to take advantage of early adopters.

Ask him if you could trade your kidney + $100 for a Switch, because that sounds like a slightly less bad deal than what he wants now.

Seriously though, if you really want a Switch and don't care about your PS4 + Vita anymore, sell them yourself, and buy a Switch from someone else or just get a new one.

Hm...
I sold my Wii U + games at a local GAME the day before the Switch presentation and got ~290€ (in store credit though). The Switch is 292€ in my area (canary islands get less taxes) so I basically paid off the entire console ifself via selling my Wii U.

Are you sure you can't do better? Can't you sell the consoles and then order the Switch in a Amazon store outside of your country? Amazon UK, Spain, France, etc. Seeing that the Switch is so stupidly expensive there maybe it's cheaper this way, even with shipping?

If you are sure there isn't a cheaper way and you REALLY don't want the PS4 nor the Vita and you REALLY want the Switch, then ok, do it. But if there's a cheaper way, even if it means waiting a little bit, try do do that.

Should I change two capable consoles with hundreds of games for a new console with just a number of games which I can count with just my two hands?
