Should I play No More Heroes 2?

It's garbage and a step down from the original in every department. Best to pretend it doesn't exist in all honesty.

Is there something about browsing GAF that makes people incapable of subtly? Moderation? Anything aside from hyperbolizing everything into being either amazing or absolutel shit?
 
It's worth playing if you liked the original. It does some things better, does other things worse. But overall I enjoyed my time with it.
 
Definitely play it. It's a fun game, but don't expect it to come close to the first.

Great graphics and cool additions to the moveset, but the combat is clunkier, the bosses aren't as memorable, the story isn't as good, the minigames don't mesh well with the rest of the game (although they're fun), and without the exploration the world doesn't feel as fleshed out.

And the biggest sin: the soundtrack is nowhere near as good as the first's.

Overall, I think I liked NMH2 more than the first one, but that parking lot level just sucks soooooo much, that it make me not want to ever replay it. Most of what I want out of NMH2 can be gotten out of Youtube anyway.
 
It's not trash. It has fewer problems as an overall package, but it has fewer excellent bosses on the same level of the bosses in the first game. Higher lows but lower highs.
 
The original is in my top five favourite games. The second is a decent sequel whose streamlining loses a lot of the personality, even if it ties up the themes and story very nicely. So it's definitely worth a look, though best enjoyed as a less flavoursome tribute to the original.
 
Play it OP , it was never trash, come on it's a no more heroes game, it's just that the majority of bosses are not as memorable as the first but #5-#2 are hype.

Also no sandbox to do stunts in the schpeltiger but the jobs are more entertaining than the first one IMO.
 
The only good things about NMH2 was the opening fight against Skelter Helter (the brother of the first assassin, Helter Skelter, killed in the initial trailer and cut scene of NMH1) and the 8bit mini games.
 
It's a more polished/streamlined game, but it doesn't really have the soul of the first game (although it has its moments).

Out of a few tracks, the music isn't nearly as memorable either.
 
No More Heroes 2 plays a hell of a lot better but the story and character stuff isn't as good.

Definitely worth playing, though.

His main job is working with Grasshopper now. He was the sound design and music lead for Let it Die and was the arranger of it's 100+ Japanese punk/rock/metal bands that make up it's licensed soundtrack.

He also did the entire soundtrack for Shadows of the Damned.
 
I agree with majority of the of the thread. The gameplay was better, but it lacked the character/vibes of the original, although it still had some great bosses. Rankings 4-2 are especially noteworthy IMO, though I can think of a couple of the earlier bosses that are crazier than those, if that's something you value. Overall I think that the first NMH is the better game.

Oooooh... I never knew there were two different versions of that song. No wonder the song Ridley posted didn't sound quite right in my ears.

It's still pretty good, maybe better than NMH1 in someways but overall NMH1 is better but I wouldn't call it absolute trash. I still enjoyed it.
 
Do yourself a favor and play the spectacular and one of a kind Killer 7. Game is easily one of the most unique games ever made. Suda's Magnum Opus. Sally haven't been able to play the NMH games yet, but I'm amped to eventually pick up more Suda crazy.
 
Go ahead, it's more of the same with gameplay.

Streamlined some of the more boring things from NMH1 with the removal of cash grinding and the empty open world, at the cost of it's not that memorable either.

I expected more bosses to fight because of the way they were set up, but then you only find out you fight the same amount as the original, with lame excuses for why you're not getting more like
Henry killing some of them off screen

NMH2 also lacks the synthesized voice and splash card intro for each stage, which takes some excitement out of playing imo
 
They cut some shit like the overworld but added some legit junk like a second playable character and terrible final boss, so it evens out.

I actually remember this thread. You saw one post saying NMH2 is trash and took that as consensus for some reason. Me, and others, tried to convince you otherwise but presumably you left the thread by that points. NMH2 is my preferred game of the duology, though they're both amazing.
 
Mechanically, it's the better game, but it doesn't have quite the same charm as the original. But by all means if you loved the first it's a must-play.
 
NMH2 is good but it isn't a Suda51 game. Whereas NMH1 was weird and thoughtful and memorable, NMH2 is "just" a pretty good action game with some quirky bits.

It's still a fun game though, I'd recommend picking it up.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind visiting a more developed Santa Destroy in NMH3.

I get the feeling it'll be along the lines of Shadows of the Damned or Lollipop Chainsaw.

I question this very often
I aptly prefer 1 because of its weirdness but 2 is more polished I every aspect sof I'd give it a try
 
Maybe it is not trash, but I still vastly prefer the first one, as it's more polished. Even discounting the mostly bland and forgettable bosses, final boss included, Shinobu played liked total ass, and Henry was playable only for a single boss, if I remember correctly. I also remember Alice stun-locking me with endless swords, and that felt really cheap.
 
I enjoyed it. Worth it if you want more Travis. And as much as I like Masafumi Takada, NMH 2 has one of the best OST I've ever heard.
