Should I play the previous Batman games before arkham knight?

Easy to burn yourself out on the formula of these games, careful op. I wouldnt play through more than 1 if you intend to enjoy Knight, assuming you play it at release.

I disagree that Origins is "easily" the worst of the three games. It's a good, unpolished game in it's own right that you should totally enjoy. Baker's Joker is on the money and easily the most interesting aspect of the game.
Whilst I agree with the Joker part, the boss fights in Origins were poison. Those killed any kind of enjoyment I had with that game. Never went back.

Play all of them. Don't listen to the Origin haters. It was an amazing game and all of it has connections in Arkham Knight.

this

none of them are very long either. if you did just the 'story' missions, you're probably looking at 15-20 hours for all three

Asylum and City are my votes. Origins isn't necessary for the overall story.

I agree with this. I love the games but I'd recommend quick play throughs of Asylum and City for the main story if you intend to play Knight at release. I'd also look into playing the Catwoman and Harley Quinn's Revenge DLC from City if you're getting any of the DLC. The latter being more important than the former.

Yeah, don't burn yourself out on the series. If you can wait to play AK, at least play Asylum then City with some time in between. Again, if you have the time, Origins is very much worth playing — it feels like an expansion pack to City, which isn't a bad thing at all. It does tweak some things in a less than polished way, but it also adds a few good things.

If you can't wait, just jump straight into AK and take the time to familiarize yourself with all the moves/options available. For mainstream games, the Arkham series has a lot of player abilities to offer.

It'll be hard going back to past games if you skip them though.

Origins is the only one I'm yet to complete....worth playing through before AK? I started it but never got around to finishing it, that Steam backlog

I thought the story in Origin was more interesting than City and it's worth finishing.

I feel like Origin is unfairly shit on because it wasn't Rocksteady.

Arkham Asylum & Arkham City are must-play games, b.

Skip Origins to avoid being burnt out on the series, and play Knight so you can finish the Rocksteady trilogy.

I would say it depends on how fast you get bored of combat in action adventure games. It's a real solid combat system, but I played through all of Asylum and couldn't get through City, just got tired of going up against waves of enemies.

A Surface Pro 2 will most likely not run these games ideally. I know it'll run on a Surface Pro 3 but the framerate is unplayable. You're better off snagging the console versions if that is a choice if the SP2 is your only access to PC gaming.

Just read the wiki. The mechanics and level design might feel aged.

Totally disagree with this. Other games have tried, but none have matched Batman Arkham gameplay, so if you've never played a Batman game before and you play them in order they should all still feel fresh.

if play through all of the previous batman games, you'll be soo burnt out you won't wanna play arkham.

that's my guess

This would definitely be my concern though!

Yeah, I'd say at the very least you need to play City, simply because it's story is the most relevant to Knight's plot, but I recommend Asylum as well.

They're both great games and they'll familiarize you with the combat mechanics and puzzle schemes.

On the topic of Origins, it's more of a "if you want, go ahead" sort of deal but you really really don't need it. The combat is clunkier and somewhat busted in the sense that counters often don't register and some of the new enemies broke the combat flow, plus, the entire middle section of the story just drags and bores you to death but it picks up for the last hour or so. I'd say skip it for now and play it eventually if you have nothing else going on and want more Batman.

I think it's totally worth playing Asylum (my favorite) and City before jumping into Arkham Knight. They're both amazing games and it'll give it a little time for the inevitable bugs/issues with Arkham Knight to get ironed out before you play it.

They're all pretty similar so you could end up getting bored of the gameplay which isn't exactly ideal for Knight.

Saying that though all three are great games and if I could play them again I would actually play it in the story's chronological order, so Origins, Asylum and then City.

Origins gets way too much hate I think and honestly I preferred it to City, Asylum is the best one though.

This one may spoil some of City but I'd imagine you will be fine jumping right in. I'd recommend playing the other ones first, though.
