I'd buy a PSX mini.
But the PSX doesn't have a mini version - it is already an enhanced version of the PS2. It also only ever came out in Japan. :/

SONY never owned them.
Being a dominant brand is not enough for nostalgia. Sony needs to develop more IP and cultivate them long term before they can really hit on nostalgia. Sony was never really about 1st party IPs as much as massive 3rd party support and the early years of Sony show that. Most games people remember the good old days for are not even Sony properties.
SONY never owned them.
Being fair, most NES and SNES classics were not the property of Nintendo either you know?
I'm replying to someone saying Sony sold them. Not drawing comparisons .
What is there to remember?
So there's something to remember? But PS2 is another story. The games on that Sony console beat anything the NES ever offered IMO.
But they do have games that people are nostalgic for. Whether it be stuff like Ape Escape, Parappa, Wipeout, Destruction Derby, or Legend of Dragon etc. that all sold well back when they were released. They have that content. If we really want to be honest about this, the reason they don't try to dredge up nostalgia so much is because they really don't need to.
They had that product and they sent it out to die, the PSTV could have been perfect for this but who knows why they even made it, even though I love mine

If they bring an old up back that's pulling a nostalgia card for fans of that game....what's going on in here. Releasing a new Mario, zelda, pokemon is not pulling a nostalgia card. This is not how you play the nostalgia card.
Nintendo IPs are not only old, but also ALIVE!
Let's play the first Zelda again, because a new Zelda is coming and it's tied to the original. Let's catch some Pokemon, and by the way, Sun/Moon is coming this fall.
As for Sony, first of all their IPs never reach the height of Mario or Zelda. Second, most of the old franchises are long dead. They don't have nostalgia card to play. Sony better leave it to the 3rd party, or they will get another PS all-star embarrassment.
Maybe they mean PSX as in original PlayStation.
Because the nes mini is all first party games and those are all the games on PS1.lol what am I supposed to be nostalgic for, Ape Escape, Medieval? Syphon Filter? I like Sony but this just doesn't have the same pull as a NES Mini.
Very fond memories of the PS1& PS2 days. Those were my consoles growing up. Even early PS3 years I feel a weird sense of nostalgia for. The boom of online gaming hit at the same time I was in secondary school with all my friends, special memories.
I'm not sure why were limiting it to 1st party games because as a kid I had no idea what was 1st or 3rd party, all I knew were games I loved were on these consoles.
They should embrace Wipeout nostalgia and make another one of those. Also Patapon. Or at least bring them to current gen.
Aside from Wipeout and Patapon I have no real nostalgia feels for Sony. There have definitely been good exclusives over the years but I'm not sure I'll ever be like "oh shit a new Medievil!" Or whatever other other dead franchise that would probably be better off staying dead at this point.
Oh, hey, I'm being obtuse. Don't mind me, I'm just saying what I feel is being said by you and a few others here. I mean, it's cool to blame drive by posts and shit explainations on me, right? You probably are being willingly obtuse but i'll answer anyway.
No one is saying that nostalgia is applicable to first party only, the thread is about why Sony isn't taking advantage of nostalgia like Nintendo is doing and the answer is because they don't have much control over it as in the most things people have nostalgia for PlayStation are third party and it's the IP holders job to leverage that.
Look at Crash, they've been hinting this thing since the console reveal 3 years ago and only this E3 they have been able to show something marginally related to it... and that's for a simple remake of the trilogy, if they asked Activision to do a whole new game it probably would've took even longer... now imagine if Sony had to take the initiative for all the games that were successful on PS1...
Give me a new Bloody Roar game, please!
I second this... unless of course it would somehow get in the way of a new ape escape than I'd have to say F parappa loli'll take whatever gets me a new parappa
I'd love it if Sony did more remakes, as there are some amazing franchises in Sony's past, but Medieval Resurrection didn't work, neither Twisted Metal (the PS3 game or the Head-On remake) made an impact, PS All-Stars didn't prove any fanbase for the stars, now Shadow of the Beast is come and gone ... I just don't know if that audience is consistent.
They've also put PS1 games on Android and nobody noticed, so putting its classics on other platforms might not do anything either.
But I'd be totally game for Sony to try more, and I do believe that a few brands will succeed if they tried and got them right on just value in a genre to a new audience, never mind nostalgia carryover.
It pulled at the nostalgia strings of fans of the franchise. What does Shadow of the Beast have to do with Sony? Wasn't it a C64 and Genesis game originally?
Give me a new Bloody Roar game, please!
You should ask FCUK Konami there. Tx for killing Hudson KONAMI!!!!O_O
I second this... unless of course it would somehow get in the way of a new ape escape than I'd have to say F parappa lol
They probably do, but that acronym makes no sense, because the Sony PlayStation has no X in its name, and there is an actual Sony PSX which the Sony PlayStation is not.
I just don't understand the convention for this acronym, PS1 is much clearer, especially now that there's 4 PlayStations and several different models as well - including a PSX.
Ape escape die in a corner.....Who cares about those 2 title. The only title important are new Boku no Natsuyasumi, What did i do to deserve this Badman, Patapon, Aquanaut's Holiday and Arc the Lad series.
The other can go and die on corner.T_T
They're not lying. You can't compare third party developed games with first party Nintendo as Sony don't have permissions around a lot of the PS1 crud.
It was never called PSX outside of the US.PSX was what it was called before it released. There's a reason. And it was way before the actual PSX name was used for the PS2 Japan only DVR. You must be young because we all called the PS1 PSX back in the day. There was no PS1 because it was still the first.
Ape escape die in a corner.....

Sony has played with nostalgia pretty well in ways that resonated with a lot of people.
"Hey remember FFVII, Shenmue, and the Last Guardian. They're back"
"Hey remember that crazy Kojima guy who made all those games for you, we gave him wheelbarrows of cash. He's back"
"Hey remember Kratos, he's back and has a beard"
"Ni No Kuni, it's back"
They're straight tugging on nostalgic heart strings man! Making grown men weep lol they're conscious of it and are at times surprisingly in tune with the nostalgia we have.
They don't have the brands like Mario, Pokemon. But they use what they got well to build diverse libraries with relevant games. And I like that they embrace new IPs, as amazing as the new Zelda looks Sony has been pretty great at surprising us.

This is my feeling.. the fact the PlayStation came around the beginning of the 3D craze means they have some really rough old games that did not age well. Lots of 2D stuff plays fine these days but early 3D.. ugh no thanks.lol PlayStation and Xbox does not have that. So its not the question of SHOULD, its more of "HOW".
