Should Sony or MS Get the Advertising Rights for Titanfall 2?

On one hand, EA should probably go to Sony since they already have an established audience in XB1. They won't have to worry selling there. Besides you still have a larger market to work with.

But I 'll be guessing they would stick with MS because of EA access and strong ties with Activision at Sony.

I see Microsoft making a clean sweep with marketing titles.

Battlefield/Mass Effect/Titanfall

I can only see Sony getting Titanfall 2 if they get something extra like the entire Titanfall 1 campaign with all the gameplay changes added for Titanfall 2

dont care who and if someone get rights i only care about the cloud support from the first game. sony never pays for ms servers so the game is doomed from the start

Sony has CoD and MS has BF1 which are fuckton bigger than Titanfall. Both can negotiate and lowball for the rights to T2.

If not EA, I'd say Microsoft, as the first game was on their platforms, so the fans are there. In the end it doesn't really matter, it'll get enough money to advertise the game properly.

I can't believe "I hope platform holder X gets the marketing rights to game Y" is an actual thing.

I hope the game's good, is what I hope.

Sony shouldnt care as it barely moved the needle even when it was microsofts first big exclusive.

Ms probably won't care either for the same reason. As even if they don't pay for marketing they'll always have the first on xbone (via ea access) card to pull.

Also it's launching around the same time as three other big hitter shooters (gow3 being the third)

Sony should probably pony up the cash because they need to let the casual audience know it's on PS4 too this time. Plenty of people probably associate it with Xbox only.
This is exactly what I'm thinking here.

Not sure why all the hate about the topic tho. These marketing deals have been going on for decades now. How is 'is this a thing?' and 'really?' Even relevant posts at the point? The game was great in its last iteration, and I have high hopes for the next.

I know for us gamers it's a non issue, but for the casual market, it seems important for everyone to find out it's available on all systems. That's all I'm saying really.

If Sony doesn't pay up, all EA games get Xbox One logos in their trailers by default because they will be pushing the EA Access early play. See the Battlefield 1 trailer.

...I'm kinda hoping for Sony, even though I played it on Xbone and loved it, one of my fav shooters still tbh, but I want to see PS4 players across the globe get into this game so we can get the global fan base this game deserves...
.
So you honestly think if it's advertised by Microsoft that Sony players won't get into the game??

It doesn't matter who advertises the game....Are we going to start getting threads for every game on GAF now "who will get advertising rights for..."

I expect when MS signed the contract for Titanfall 1 marketing there was some kind of clause in there that they would be allowed first refusal on the sequel. It'll be a huge success either way so it doesn't really matter.

Sony already has Titanfall in the form of Infinite Warfare, so I could easily see Microsoft grabbing Titanfall 2. Though Nintendo grabbing it for an NX exclusive would be a megaton.

The real answer is- who cares? I understand the marketing rights might sway a small percentage of the gaming populace, but I doubt it makes a massive difference in the minds of people who are already invested in a particular platform.

Yeah it doesn't really matter as far as I'm concerned. Although while marketing exclusivity is stupid, having it "change side" is even more stupid. So whatever.

If we have no console warring to do then what will become of us?

Fuel is needed.

Not that it matters much but I think you shouldn't hope for one company over the other just because it opens up for things like exclusive dlc, early access packs and such.

Saying that like you said with Sony its makes better sesne IMO because the base isn't already attached to the franchise so have a bigger presence would help there. As with Xbox/PC their platforms already have some interaction with the franchise.

Edit - I think MS with get because of their relationship with EA ATM.

I dont think anyone cares, its coming to everyone anyhow.

Edit - Sorry I think its disengenious not to reply appropriately. I think MS will get the deal given EA's relationship.

Doesn't really matter to me but as a suit at EA I'd go:

US/UK=MS
EU/RoTW=Sony.

Rake in the dough and let the console makers excel in their strongest markets.

A deal like this makes no sense for Sony. PS4 is going to be the default console for Titanfall 2 outside of the U.S./UK regardless of who has the marketing rights.

I am thinking MS will get it. They were really close with Titanfall 1. Also Sony is in deep with Activision on Destiny and CoD.

The real question is if Titanfall 2 will use Azure this time around. I hope so.
Yeah, Azure is the big question.

Regarding the marketing, it's an interesting question and relevant on GAF, here we discuss the industry and everything that involves it, including marketing deals.

Sony got a lot of dough to spread to also cover Titanfall.

Destiny 2, COD, next WB game from the Rock.....a crumb to Ubisoft (Watch Dogs 2) + Titanfall?

Prob gonna be Microsoft. Sony's e-penis is above allotted size currently.

My guesses for future EA marketing rights:

Battlefield 1 - Xbox
Mirrors Edge - Xbox
Titanfall 2 - Xbox
Mass Effect: Andromeda - Xbox
Star Wars Battlefront 2 (and 3) - Playstation
Star Wars Amy Hennig - Playstation
Star Wars Respawn - Playstation

This year Battlefield, Titanfall 2, and COD:IW are all coming out in the same window. I think that Battlefield and Titanfall can coexist, but I can't see the marketing rights for Titanfall and COD going to the same company, and we know Sony has COD.

I think Sony will keep their Star Wars deal with EA, it seems to have worked very well so far.

And regarding Mass Effect, I think since Sony has Star Wars, they're doing ok on the sci-fi front, on top of the fact that for every console Bioware game MS has had the marketing rights.

Serious question: is titanfall a super big, hyped up franchise? Didn't the first one fall flat, relative to anticipation ? Is it a system seller?

wtf?

what kind of thread is this?

what do you mean "should"? Neither deserve it. Its a fucking marketing deal. whoever gets it outbid the other person. simple.

As a huge fan of the original, if Sony gets the rights of 30 days exclusive DLC and all that crap, I won't buy it.

Too many good shooters coming out this fall to have to deal with that shit.

Same here I'm done buying shooters on ps4 until Sony fixes the fact that the duelshock 4 only sends inputs wireless over Bluetooth. Like its 2016 get it together Sony.

I get tons of interference on my scuff playing cod. I have to make sure all Bluetooth devices are off changed wifi channels. Every large cod tourney has been plagued with controller issues it's pretty much ruined every cod lan so far this year.

Just going off Fallout 4 here but when that was announced everyone was speculating that MS would have the marketing due to the XB1 case being first of the 3 and it being XB1, PS4 and PC in descriptions etc. Only thing so far with Titanfall 2 is the teaser which has PS4, XB1 and PC. Could be nothing.
