Should Splatoon 2 include the original game's campaign?

Being a sequel I would expect its own campaign.

Yet.. given Wii U's low numbers I guess it could be justifiable to sort of re-release the Splatoon 1 campaign to give more people the chance to play it.
If that happens, though, I hope it's in addition to Splatoon 2 campaign, not in substitution.

Sure would be a nice extra. I'll agree with the desire for some of the original's tracks (please please please give us Shellfie again), and maybe some of the original maps too. Not at the cost of new content though obviously.

nah I think whatever campaign they have planned for the sequel should suffice

feel like the developers are going about Splatoon 2 like it could be a lot of people's first entry in the series so I'm sure the campaign will take that into account

No. Didn't want a Wii U? Too bad, you missed out.

Should they? Nah. They aren't obligated to include single player content from the original game.

Would it be cool? Sure! It was a great bit of platforming with surprisingly inventive bosses.

They should remake the first single player campaign as an 8-bit 2d Platformer to play while waiting for matches obvs.

If the alternative is there being no single-player campaign, then yes, they should include it. It'll be a better game because of it. I don't care if people want to pretend a sequel is more distinct than it is. The game should have a totally new single-player, if they're taking it seriously.

Sure, provided it doesn't eliminate us getting a new story mode with 2. Though I can already see the "Port" comments in droves if it has the same story in it.

Yeh it is, I really enjoyed the single player, I just wish the campaign was longer.

Is the second one going to have another campaign?

They confirmed a new campaign months ago, the trailer even seems to have cutscenes from said campaign in it.

The first game's campaign was great, but yeah, seems like an odd request given that this one will have it's own and hopefully bigger/better SP mode. Also, it has been confirmed.

Also,
I can't think of any other 'sequel' in the history of videogames that is more of a straight asset lift or looks more like a DLC/expansion of the first game than Splatoon 2 though. You couldn't even tell 2 screenshots apart.
Here's an old thread with some suggestions:

Did you play Splatoon? From the tiny snippets of footage they showed in the Switch reveal trailer it was pretty clear it was a different game.

The only thing they should include is the dj octavio boss fight, that's one of the best boss fights I've seen in years. They could implement it as a miniboss or an optional fight.

Absolutely not. I already bought & played that game. I would rather the dev team 100% prioritize new content that can potentially iterate on the previous work.

I'm already not thrilled about paying $60 for Mario Kart after having spent $90 on the WiiU game + DLC. We need to get past these revisions of WiiU games and get unique content. I'm glad Splatoon 2 seems to be moving in that direction.

No, they shouldn't.

The campaign in Splatoon 1 was great. But I've no doubt they could do a better version of that for the sequel (maybe even with new mechanics), and let's not give any more ammo for people to call this "Splatoon 1.5."

Call of Duty.

I don't want to be pile on this too much, but I can't tell Battlefield 3 and 4 apart either.

This is a dumb criticism to level against Splatoon, honestly. There's clear differences in character models right from the outset.

.... I own Splatoon, have played it, and had no idea it had a single player campaign. Somehow I completely missed this. Thought it was multiplayer only. O_O

I love the first campaign but it should not be included on the sequel. That would just feed into the "Splatoon 2 is really Splatoon 1.5" crowd. I still blame the leaks for making people think the Switch version would be an Enhanced Port of the first game.

They could put it and extend the story for Splatoon 2!
Great tutorial for noobies to learn the mechanics by the way.

Jump/swim into the sewer grate to the right of the multiplayer lobby, the one the old guy peeks out of when you're not standing by it

Well in theory it should include a new campaign since it's a sequel right? I mean it would be nice to have the original's as well, but I think it would be going too far to say it "should".

It feels more like an expansion for the first game than a sequel so sure why not. More content is better and tons of games have done it this gen. I find the notion of not wanting it included weird

I at least want an option to have the old music again. They've gone to an indie rock vibe this time around, I miss squid idols already. :(

The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Bioshock 2
Little Big Planet 2

I'd settle for just bringing back Splatoon 1's DJ Octavio bossfight. Make it an unlockable or something. That shit is too good to be stuck on the Wii U forever. Everyone should experience it.

Um, it's a sequel, so they are making a new, likely more fully featured campaign for it. Why would they need to reuse the old campaign? Splatoon 1 isn't going anywhere.

It would be nice if they did. Lol at people simply saying "No, it's a sequel". Yeah well, the point is that it'd be a nice gesture if they added the first campaign as an extra, now if you said "No one should really expect it or cancel their preorder if it's not included because this is a sequel", we would be agreeing.
I don't think it should be included since it's a new game.
Wouldn't it be nice if they added more content for people coming in fresh? I don't think anyone would disagree with that.

Edit: Why do you people care so much about Splatoon 2 being called "Splatoon 1.5"? It's on the Switch, the console's off to a great start, impressions seem positive from the Testfire, it's going to be fine even if people keep calling it Splatoon 1.5. I expect it to move a lot of units in Japan.

I'm guessing this brief shot from the trailer is probably a cutscene from the new campaign, seems like there'll be some Squid Sisters drama, going off the single image.

I'm worried we've only seen Marie on the trailer.
Something could have happened to Callie since they are Agent 1 and Agent 2.
Probably a rescue mission?
