The industry has always had this weird desire for an Oscar-like show that stands above all. While of course the Oscars are a flawed, politicized body, they still represent a certain prestige that many enjoy and uplift a sense of artistry to the film industry.
The VGAs have always been more equivalent to the MTV awards shows, yet we watch them because they're televised. Should we instead hold up a truer industry award show as our "top honor"? DICE seems like a good choice from my small understanding of it based on their connection to both developer and critic voters.
Or is the key to this all just "the one showed on TV is the one we care most about"?
