Some of them are and some of them aren't. But we should see more attractive females in video games. It's not hurting the average gamer to see a virtual character who is easy on the eyes in a virtual world. I understand both sides of the argument but at the end of the day, for me as an adult that still games, I couldn't care less what characters, male or female, look like. A game isn't any more or less fun if a female protagonist looks like Cindy Crawford or Chyna (the WWE wrestler). As long as it's done well and the game is fun, the devs can do what they want. The market will speak.

I was sorely disappointed with Black Cat and Mary Jane in Spider-Man but atleast they weren't UGLY but thankfully they were just flat side characters. Black Widow in Avengers looks pretty good. Tough but sexy, I dig it. Aloy for example, she looks okay, but if they made her face just a LITTLE thinner to match her body more she'd look 100x better. Instead she has a fucking jawline like a dude which ruins her look. I tried playing Lost Legacy and couldn't make it past an hour of that despite being a huge Uncharted fan. Those characters are just boring without Drake. Compare them to a real badass like Jill Valentine who is sexy and awesome in RE3R. Honestly this is all moot anyways. No female can ever touch Aerith from FF7R, she is literal perfection.

The same way Japan has often made "pretty boy" feminine looking male characters, Western devs have a history of making "hammerface" female characters. This predates the eggshell era we live in where fearing the court of public opinion or believing in woke orthodoxy are motivating factors for devs.

I explained it before on here. The difference with games is that gameplay is still the main selling point, so even if the chars are ugly it's not going to turn people away that much (eg. Outer Worlds).

With blockbuster movies we all know it won't sell nearly as well and execs know that too so the idea rarely gets greenlit past the board meeting. Investor money trumps SJW ideas in this case.

As far as I know there aren't many Japanese-American actors in Hollywood. Most of the cast are composed of Chinese-American actors like Lauren Tom, who I remember from The Joy Luck Club.

It's great though that they got Daisuke Tsuji (who is actually of Japanese descent) to play Jin. Though I wonder why they didn't let him voice the Japanese track, since he speaks Nihongo quite fluently.

As for Sumalee's age, it's a video game. You can easily voice a character that's younger than you and the CG artists can deage your face if needed. I think they were going more acting ability rather than looks when casting the game's characters.

Also, the actors in biopics are a bajillion times better looking than their real life counterparts. The people in the Social Network were a bunch of typical ugly nerds irl but no one batted an eye when Andrew Garfield, Arnie Hammer, et al were cast.
