I heard many shit stories about Durham. It sounds like the hoods are worse there than over here.

It used to be a lot worse. The city has really cleaned up over the last few years. The downtown area has been renovated a lot and more and more apartments are being put up.

Also if anyone lives in Durham go to Chubby's. It is delicious.

Durham police are awful and the wrong parts of the city are some of the worst I've ever seen. Same can be said for Raleigh. It blows my mind people willingly move here.

I have some friends who have moved closer to Charlotte and it seems to be a lot more favorable. I actually didn't mind the triad area quite so much either from what I've experienced there. I'll take downtown Greensboro over downtown Raleigh any day of the week.

I always hear about how awful Durham is. When I first moved here, people would always tell me to drive further to Raleigh just to avoid Durham. There are nice parts of Durham but it seems like the bad parts are what everyone thinks of/remembers.

Hey now.

The Bull City has some rough spots but there are great people who live here.

I live in Cary and it isn't that expensive. You can get a decent 4-bedroom home for 250-300k.

Maybe a townhouse or the house was built in the 70s to 80s. Housing market sucks here unless you sold your $300k+ house in high cost of living areas like NY or the Bay area and move here with that money. Transplants are just driving up the cost for everyone. I rarely even meet people here that are actually from NC. It's usually from way out west or up north.

so have yall treated your taste buds to the delicious beers from Wicked Weed in Asheville? my favorite NC brewery at the moment. their sours are on point.

I live way too close to a Chubby's for my own good. The call of the burrito is indeed strong.

Growler Grlz in Durham has their stuff on tap from time to time. It's pretty good.

Nice homes can be had in good areas of Durham for the low 200s.

And I can confirm that Chubby's is AMAZING.
I hear near south point is pretty nice. I'm probably gonna stay in Cary. But if I was going to live in Durham, then I would probably buy near south point.

I mean, there are definitely places in Durham where you don't want to be caught slippin at night. But what metropolitan area doesn't have those?

In general, I think Durham as a town has way more good going for it than bad.

All day every day. Amazing stuff. One good thing about this area is the variety of good bottle shops. Sams in Durham has a huge selection of great brews. There is also a small shop whose name escapes me near the farmers market worth checking out.

anyone living around lake norman area? just move down here from new york city area

I live in Charlotte, but not directly in the Lake Norman area.

Some of the places in Lake Norman are pretty pricey, but you might find more affordable options as you inch closer to the city, like Huntersville. The commute on I-77 can be brutal, so I would definitely suggest Huntersville, versus say Mooresville.

I dunno, man. We bought our house for $220k last year and it is 4 bedrooms and was built in the 90s. Other homes in our area have been selling for around 250k recently. And the neighborhood is off of Cary Parkway, so it's not like we live in one of the crappier sections of Cary.

There are definitely some expensive neighborhoods here, but lots of reasonably priced ones as well.

The Triangle, and Raleigh especially, is booming right now. Wake County's population is expected to double by 2050.

I've grown quite fond of Raleigh and the surrounding area. I've been here for 5 years. As long as downtown Raleigh keeps growing healthily, I think the city will keep impressing.

yeah I've got a small craft beer place near me that specializes in getting NC beers and imports. they've always got some Wicked Weed sours in stock, usually the sour blonde with tropical fruit that's aged in white wine barrels. forgot what it's called but it is delicious.

Hey, are there any good video game stores in the triangle area? Anything that specializes in older games?

Edward McKay's has a pretty decent collection of stuff. They look everything up on ebay though so they have the rare stuff right around those prices but the import stuff is usually pretty good price. They also have books and music section.

Yep it's crazy my little town has a huge development going in that will increase the population by like 1000% and it's already increased the value of my house it is so fucking sweet. Also the commute to UNC is like 20 Minutes and going to Raleigh is like 45 now thanks to the new toll road.

Currently living and working in the Triangle. Love the area here. 2 hours to the mountains, 2 to the beach

Oh, and Red Oak is the best beer in the state.

I just spent a week in Raleigh area for work. People here are extemely polite and kind. Big difference than most peeps in Bay Area. Area is beautiful too with lots of greenery, places to hang out and great beer!

Lots of new development too... Nice houses going for only 300k new.

Thanks for the hospitality cant wait to come back!

Been living in Raleigh for three years and probably about to move down to southwest Florida in late summer. Definetly going to miss this place.

Thanks! I just mapped it and it's like 37 miles to get there. Yuck.

Where do all the UNC people work? I'm surprised to see so many from Duke - there has to be a number from UNC too. I work in the IT department.

I work at UNC and have seen several people talking about working there probably just a bit quiet right now.

Yeah it's a bit of a drive Back Door Cd's & Tapes behind Franklin St have some games but he only takes cash and the selection isn't great really depends on what people have brought in.

Lost Ark in Greensboro looks like it might be pretty good but I have not been done there to check it out.

Too bad the highway system is still designed for a population from 1950.

The Triangle really needs to push for light rail and commuter rail. The Blue Line in Charlotte has really made a difference in how you can get around the city, without needing a car. Sucks too, since the Triangle is now larger than the Charlotte metro, when it first got the light rail.

I am sure they will get right on that after they get done arguing about how much to cut funding to the university system and the k-12 system.

..lol, what a weird ass thing to say. As opposed to a New England accent, or a Wisconsin accent? What's wrong with anyone's accent, let alone a Southern one?

There is some country ass places where you can get an accent that makes you sound about 100 iq points stupider in NC. I mean hell Mountain Dew mouth is actually more of an epidemic in some places then meth mouth. They actually have commercials about not giving Mountain Dew and sweet tea to your babies.

I'm from Winston-Salem and barely have any accent at all, but I think that's less to do with region and more to do with being part of a generation primarily raised by television.

But wow, of all things to be concerned about as a parent, you'd think your kids having a Southern accent should rank pretty low. Hilarious.

Reporting from Sanford, NC. I work in Raleigh off of Glenwood Ave. You should check out The Flying Saucer next time you're in the area.

Edward McKay's is awesome! Their used movie section is huge too. I got all the n64 wrestling games there for like 20 bucks total. Good prices on the old stuff. But yeah they do their research. Saw a copy of Ocarina of Time 3ds they were selling for $70 on Record Store Day. And to think I got my copy used back in 2012 from gohastings for 16 bucks :-x.

They had a Earthbound for like 140 a few months back.

BossKey represent! Raleigh is lovely, been living here for just over five months.

I couldn't ask for a better atmosphere to make awesome games with awesome and talented people!

Dear lord man that is a commute and a half.

Yeah I really enjoy going there and checking out what they have. Sometimes you can get a great deal but other times they have high end ebay prices it really depends on who was pricing it. The vinyl and cd section is a godsend sometimes as well.

Nice man. Yeah CliffyB has been talking about how nice the triangle is for years. It was always weird to hear him on Joe Rogan talking about how nice Cary and Raleigh are.

Dear lord man that is a commute and a half.

Not too bad. 45 minute drive, 40 minutes when the stars align and I hit the lights just right on Glenwood. Work right near Lynnwood Grill. Another good place to eat and have a few cold ones.
