My wife and I just bought our house in April and turned the basement into the gaming area.

This is the best in the thread thread IMO. It's a sweet little nook. I like cozy gaming nooks above open, super clean and large gaming areas.

The fireplace is great. I can see getting some awesome morning gaming sessions in the winter with a cup of coffee and a small fire going.

Congrats on the house!

Finally the house is done and my new battlestation is up :)

First off-site test of my Gaming Setup 2017. Everything built up in a warehouse to test the system works when installed in December.

Thought I'd share a sneak peek to GAF.

See Chittagong is actually rich :O ...but more importantly he also has good taste and decoration sense (unless he hires someone).

I'm moving into my new place later today, but starting anew on furniture here as my other furniture is at my Vancouver place and I rather leave it there.

I hope to have something for the 2017 thread though!

You're back!! I was getting worried, 2017 wouldn't feel right with someone else doing the thread.

And thanks! We've designed our flats before entirely ourselves, but this time we hired architects and AV specialists as we are super busy with our work, and stuff like that AV rack is just too complex for mere mortals. But we chose a Swedish lead designer who has a style very similar to us, and have given pretty hands on direction.

Is that a fifteen thousand dollar tv? I only did a quick google but wtf?!? That is awesome.

Developer was desperate not to drop the price of the apartment but told they'd pay for equipment so we went to town with the spec :D it is absolutely enormous, hard to grasp the size from pictures but the door next to it gives some scale.

Goddamn that is going to look/sound amazing.

Thanks, yeah we can't wait - no idea when it's all done tho, was supposed to be September, now maybe Xmas.

*a whole lot of stuff*

I think I recall you having had a surround setup with Genelec 8040s before. Did you get rid of them? I imagine those would've been great for the ceiling speakers if you were to go the Atmos route. Setup looks incredible but I'm curious why you didn't go for a 11.2 AVR.

I hope to get a new set of slightly bigger Genelecs for surround (7 speakers) and throw four of my current 8020Bs on the ceiling for Atmos, and go from a Genelec 7050B sub to a SVS PB-13-Ultra. Whenever I get the room to accommodate such a setup, that is.

You're right, I had a 3 x 8040 / 4 x 8020 / 1 x 7050 - a 7.1 setup.

This time it'll be 3 x 8351 / 4 x 8340, a 7.0 setup. Basically my surround speakers will be the size of my previous fronts. It sounds so much better, I think the crucial difference is that the back speakers are just one size down from fronts, like Genelec recommends. Two sizes down was quite unbalanced.

Why not 11.2? Having 8 x 8340s would had taken crazy amount of space and money :D especially given that the format is not so widely supported. I was also keen not to have a separate subwoofer and the 8351s are great for that.

I can totally get those points. I look forward to seeing the final setup.

I didn't think Sony made a 85" 95d. Did you mean 850d or 950b?

Chittagong, do you own your own business? Just curious where you were able to set up all that equipment?

And thanks for the welcome back :) And yeah, I hear you on being too busy so best to hire somebody. That AV rank looks extremely complex.

Did you get that crazy view you were looking for?

Yeah that's the place, the one with the view. All the AV kit will be there eventually - hopefully by Xmas, just in time for new thread..!

I do actually have my own company (hence no time - posted a pic of my desk in the headphone thread), however the kit pictured was set up at the AV contractors warehouse, standard part of their process to check everything works and client is happy before starting to lay down cable.

Can't wait to see your new place!

Here's my workstation which I occasionally use for gaming, lol:

  • 5k iMac with secondary 1440p iMac as dual monitor
  • the monitor to the left is what I play my PS4, PS3 or Wii U on. Also use it to display sheet music
  • Audio: iMac > Sciit Magni 2.0 > Schiit Modi 2.0 > HiFi-Man 400i / Yamaha HS8 speakers
  • iPad Pro for sketching and reference images
  • Large Intuos Pro for drawing
  • You can also see some of my books, most of which are art related or have lots of picture references
  • PRS SE Standard guitar
  • Novation Impulse 61 keyboard

Have you hooked a console (PS4/XB1) up to the monitor? If so, how did it look?

I'm thinking about getting a Ultrawide for my work pc/console setup. I'll probably wait till there are HDR monitors.

Yep I have. But you cannot use PS4 for ultrawide, have to adjust the image to standard wide.

Updated: Finally got all the wiring/desk setup like I wanted now. I'm doing a Mini Itx Amd GPU for my living room.Needed to add some hdd space and fix the case panel.
Other than a decent chair I'm good I think

Advice requested.

For the past 6 years I've had a stand with a mount on it that's worked for my 50" TV. It has 3 shelves of tempered glass that have worked alright as well. I was thinking of moving away from that to a better looking piece of furniture. I'm in my first house and it just feels early 20's :lol. Also, with the way it's setup and how high I have to get the TV to be over the speaker, the TV feels really high with this piece of equipment.

My goals: TV mounted either on wall or on the stand mentioned above, center speaker under the TV. I have a receiver, PS4, PS3, WiiU. PS3 doesn't need to be out anymore really.

I'm having a mixed problem of depth and height. I found something like this that I like a lot:
https://www.allmodern.com/TV-Stand-MCRR2437-MCRR2437.html

The only issue is that the receiver I plan to buy (I already have one, but its replacement) probably can't fit in one of the shelves. I was thinking of putting the receiver and center speaker both on top. Thoughts on this? Not sure how I feel about having the receiver and center speaker next to each other on top of the furniture.

Other info: I have 2 tower speakers that will flank the furniture/tv. I want the furniture to help obscure the wires as I don't feel like making holes in the wall at this time.

The Doom poster is a nice touch!

That's where I get my inspiration from. A lone green in a sea of red. Doom Guy versus Demon horde. A lone green rig in a sea of red acoustic foams. Red extended mouse mat green Corsair keyboard. Even the rig has some red in it, the Asus ROG logo light has been turned off on this, else it'll be the only red in the green rig.

How is that monitor? I'm thinking of picking up the same one...

Peerless. Its nearest comparison is to the Acer Predator X34 with its 3 variants, but no bling on the X34. I love that the PG348Q allows routing of cables through its thick monitor stem, and that ROG eye projected underglow is unique to itself. Of course that can be turned off, with 4 different levels of intensity.

The X34 and PG348Q shares the same panel maker, so characteristics are the same. You still play the panel lottery: some panels have light bleed and color shifts so bad, that you had better buy this from a retailer that entertain returns. I took the risk shipping this, and thankfully it turned out fine.

I have the mid-20s broke musician set-up. :(

Gosh, some amazing sets in here. Seeing the 2600 next to the 360 slim in the OP made me so nostalgic. Haven't seen one of those in over 20 years.

Figured I would ask here since people have some pretty cherry home theatre set ups.

I have a weird situation. For years I've used 3.5mm out to my 1977 Kenwood amp and been more than happy with the warm sound (and look!). My TV died and I've been lent (long story) a newer one for about 6 months or so until I give it to family and buy a new one.

This TV, though, only has optical-out and it is not variable, so the audio controls are disabled when you switch to optical out. I didn't realize this and bought a cheap DAC, which works fine and sounds fine but then I need to physically get up to change the volume which sucks.

Is there any solution for this besides a) buying a new receiver or b) buying a new TV?

Here's a sneak peak (lol nothing of the actual setup as I just moved in and need furniture):

I've been lurking this thread for a long time, I need to post my setup soon. Welcome to San Francisco Tabris. I moved here 6 years ago, at the rate things have been going I can't imagine what you're paying for that place.

Well not nearly as nice as other setups in here, but I'm happy with what I could fit in my less than 300 sq foot apartment. There's a lot of stuff I had to leave at my parents house. Over the summer I picked up the dark brown furniture for $25 total at a yard sale, the desk and tv stand/cabinet are from IKEA. The 32" Dell HDTV was only $20! I have a 50" as well but that's at my parents house until I get a bigger apartment, though I may be moving back soon as well. I use the 24" monitor on my desk for my Xbox. The other TV for local channels and Wii U.
