Sigh, I got impatient, new gaming PC

A bit on the high side, even for a convenience style purchase.
If you had put it together yourself and saved on parts, it would be considered VERY high.

Really? Put together a build for $1k USD or under that is substantially better than the specs listed in the OP. Newegg, Amazon, whatever.

lol those are pretty bad specs for 1000k

Not really, actually. I'd much rather see a 2500k instead of a 950, but considering there are Crossfire 6850 in there, it's actually a decent deal. Of course, I'd rather see a 6950 than 2x 6850.

The specs are not optimal, but he definitely didn't get ripped off or anything. There is also one good thing about there being 2x 6850 in there: you know the power supply can at least support 300w of GPU power, so it should able to handle any single GPU in the future, if he decides to switch/upgrade video cards.

According to that link it has an 800W modular PSU as well. Probably not worth an arm and a leg since it's a system builder brand, but still mentionable. Not a bad price, OP

Damn, really? That's a very good deal, in that case. For someone who's not going to bother overclocking the 950 is quite good as well...not as good as a 2500K, but not that far off.

Here's a pic:

SYX-1070-05.jpg

The only thing I'm not really liking is the fact that it has 6 RAM sticks instead of 3, but it's not that big of a deal since there's no overclocking going on. Looking at it...is that a NZXT case? I recognize those brackets...

Also, I like the fact that the GPUs appear to have third party heatsinks with heatpipes, and not the standard AMD cooler. Good sign (assuming the case's airflow is up to the task).

Nice rig. You don't just own superior hardware compared to most gamers, you are now superior as a human being. Congratulations.

When Crossfire works, it pretty much destroys everything in its price category. I've seen 5970s that out bench a GTX 580. But that's a pretty big if.

Yep easy. Go do it. Especially now with deals everyday on many parts. Super easy. Just have to decide on how long you want to wait, what deal lists your on and what parts you want to go with.

Very very big if. But agreed. If he doesn't get stutter, or driver issues, he will be very happy. I see some frustration in his future on random titles, but hey, we all have that and even with single GPU's. Sadly just the name of the game:)

Yup...that's precisely why I don't like dual-GPU setups. They're especially not suited to someone who doesn't want to fiddle with video settings. He may need to enable/disable one of the cards on a game by game basis, or try to find fixes for the ones that don't properly support Crossfire. That's the price you pay.

And yeah, you're not going to beat that by much if you're building your own. The main advantage of building your own is that you get to choose exactly the parts you want (which is very important when it comes to case/psu, as you can re-use them), and have proper overclocking support. But in terms of sheer specs, it'd be tough to beat that. I've seen far worse purchases.

If you're sniping deals from various outlets, it may be possible, but as someone who builds gaming PCs in this price range multiple times per year for friends, family, and co-workers, I don't think you could put together a PC that is *much* better (subjective I know) for the same price. Marginal improvements are to be had, sure, but the PC in the OP is a pretty damn good deal considering it's pre-built.

Agreed. The headaches that come with SLI/Crossfire just make them not worth it, in my opinion. It's probably fine if you're only to only play games that are fairly popular and have been out for over half a year or so, but expect problems with just about every game if you buy on or around launch day.

Yep this is what I do for a living so I know the hassles and the benefits. That's why I put the caveats and congratulations in my post in the first place...and also my bits about convenience and that some people pay for that. I made it clear thats just the price you pay or don't pay.

EDITED

Op
BEWARE of that PSU. SYX savings are passed on through that kind of thing. Not saying that it will for sure be an issue, but if it were my system I would keep a close eye on that PSU just in case making sure it is spotless, always clean and free from any debris. Baby it basically.

Reminds me of old car stereo 8000 watts amplifier sold out of a truck...sure:)

But for a year or more it will probably be fine and hopefully for FAR longer. Hell one of my clients systems is still running a no name 4 years later. So anything goes these days.
So get FRAPS going and post some screenshots of all the games you used to play at those resolutions!
You have years of good gaming ahead.

PSU is iffy as hell. That is one of the main SYX savings locations and, scary. I would not shy away from it, but its like old car amps. 800watts eh? Sure...

Very true... reminds me of the days I used to skimp on PSUs when I first started building PCs. Never again.

Those are pretty good but assuming that you most likely got it at Cyber Monday (today) then you probably could have saved $100-250 if you went custom build.

Ya. Funny story about that...I say a shitty Walmart prebuilt light on fire. In all my years of putting systems together I have never seen full on shorted out fire before. Hell I installed car stereos for 6 years and only saw 2 and you are dealing with some crazy shit(carpet and sparks)

But to see a Walmart premade go into flames was a moment of pure scary ass freakishness.

I recently did the same thing. In fact, I am still awaiting some parts to come before I build it. Anyway, I spent around $1400 and for that money I probably could have built a more powerful computer but I wanted to make sure and buy quality products.

Case: Corsair 600T
PSU: Corsair 850w
Mobo: ASUS P868V
CPU: i5 2500k
CPU Cooler: Hyper 212+
GPU: ASUS GTX570 DirectcuII
Memory: 8gb corsair vengence
Windows 7 64bit
1tb Samsung F3 7200rpm
64gb Crucial SSD
ASUS DVD Drive

I am going to be putting two of them together (one for me and my dad) and it will be the first time ever building my own system. I plan on OC'ing both my CPU and GPU but am pretty nervous about the GPU as I have never done that either.

The bottom is that it's a good deal for the price, and will be very satisfactory for gaming atm. It's not very future proof, and it's built somewhat oddly, but it's still a good system for the price and that's what the OP is asking.

And I'm gonna add a ditto on the new gaming build. Still waiting on some parts, but:

Corsair Carbide 500R
Seasonic X-760
Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3
Mushkin 2X4GB DDR3-1600
Intel Core i5 2500K
Cooler Master Hyper Evo
MSI GTX 570 Twin Frozr III PE/OC
Crucial M4 128GB
Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB SATA3.0gb/s (Re-using due to stupid HDD prices)

Crossfire 6850's? Why? There are much better cheaper alternatives. Did you even ask on the GAF thread?

I found that most quality parts have not gone on sale for a while now. I was watching for deals for months but didnt see the parts I wanted go on sale much.

Similar to the build I just posted =) A GPU OC is relatively painless, especially with a non-reference board like in your DCII... not to mention the great cooling. Same reason I went for the TFIII. Your stock clocks are 742/950. You should be able to get that up to like 780's/1100's if you want to.

Crossfire configurations aren't that bad. I've been happy with my with my 6950 HD crossfire set up.

Crossfire is noisy though. Really wish I'd just shelled out for one expensive card so I wouldn't have two fans going like mad on two cheaper ones.

I am actually fairly confident I can hit the mid 830's/1200's without that card breaking a sweat. That's judging from what I have read on forums about peoples experience with that specific card. In any case I am fairly nervous because I havent had a PC for a decade let alone build it and OC everything.

In any case I wanted to make sure I had the option of upgrading individual parts when I felt like it and had quality parts to hold on to when I do upgrade.

Personally, I'm waiting for the Q1 new CPU and GPU releases now. If Diablo 3 comes out before I'm able to build, I should still be able to play that on well enough on my laptop.

Actually, not really if you're buying from newegg and amazon, and weren't fighting for that deal at Microcenter. I've been staring at a few mid-range mobos and a 560ti and the prices on the better brands (asus, msi, evga) aren't budging. There have been a few great deals on other parts recently (like the 650w seasonic modular or SSDs) but unless you want to venture into Zotac land prices have remained stable.

They did add free Batman back, though.

A few weeks ago I told my friend I needed to upgrade, he sent me a list of parts I should have gotten, but I warned him, I'm an impatient man! This deal seemed ok. For sure something could be built better at the price, but...I just had to upgrade asap! haha Silly me, I'm glad at the comments that its not that bad.

My friend suggested the same...beware the PSU. I assured him it would be upgrade number 1. The next upgrade I may make down the line is a beefy Nvidia card...I wanna try the 3D, but I also need to get a 120hz monitor.

Free batman plus a $30 rebate @ newegg for a 570. brought it down to $319.

It isnt a bad deal so dont sweat the critique's. Oh and dont worry about refresh rates as much as response rates in monitors.

I wasn't going to buy top of the line parts for my new rig. I will do that a little later down the road. I just needed something up and running and attempt to future proof as much as possible for the money I wanted to spend. Different goals I guess but I did consider what you are planning to do.

Thankfully the 6850 with a headline cooler is pretty silent. Two should be silent as long as the airflow in the case is alright.

For Nvidia stereoscopic 3D I think its a requirement, otherwise my monitor is pretty sweet as it is. Not top of the line but nice. But that's something I'll consider down the line. I need to re-check what games offer the 3D support.

I see, I am awaiting autostereoscopic 3D. I choose not to wear glasses...

LOL, yea, that was a big thing...but prices have jumped a bit I believe.

I only got a 64gb and that was $114. Rediculous. I still have a 6.0 slot on my mobo so I am going to watch prices like a hawk and hopefully pick up a 128gb + someday for around the same price.

EDIT: Oh and my 1tb samsung F3 was $134. ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY FOUR DOLLARS.

134 is like the price they came out at, that's how much i paid for my WD Black 1TB almost three years ago.

Ya that would be VERY smart on your part.

Also, for some reason some people have dirt in their privates over many of us answering your request for information on if you got a good/fair deal, and therefore feeding back to you.

I am glad you took the feedback posts as nothing but information. I didn't see a single post that seemed negative towards you though others seemed to take some kind of strange offense.

What you got is, as I stated in my first post, what you got and you asked for feedback on the purchase and got some excellent advice and feedback as well. (replace that PSU someday;)

And you will have a blast. Case closed!

Thanks man. I appreciate everyone's thoughts. Thanks GAF :D

I hope you arent reading into my posts too much. I have no dirty privates. I just took a shower. :)

Nah I just saw a couple and wanted to clarify that a person asked for data, not just GOOD data:)

And since the thread was very polite and to the point on all posts, I just wanted to clarify my own stance that the purchaser did fine, with some spots to improve next time perhaps.

Congrats! Now, you should get Starcraft 2, BF3 and Skyrim.

Also see what you can do to hook it up to your tv or receiver. I just run a 30' HDMI cable and it works perfect for couch sessions of skyrim. Top it off with a 360 controller and you're completely set for anything. It's just too bad Steam hasn't got that TV mode yet...

Already got Skyrim, and I just impulse purchased Crysis cuz you know, can my rig run Crysis? I must find out lolz. Anyway, I also need to finish Witcher before getting Witcher 2, which looks amazing in all the screenshots. Dammit Skyward Sword is looking at me. DAMMIT
