I send a support ticket asking to change the Email address associated with the Rockstar games in my Steam Library because they keep sending a two factor authentication code to the Email address currently linked to them, which i need to enter before the Rockstar Launcher will run, which i cant access because it no longer exists and hasnt for about 10yrs, therefore i have no way of playing any of my Rockstar games.

So, what do they comeback with in response?

'We've sent an email to the address linked to the account, if you could respond to that Email quoting this support number, we can facilitate the change to your new Email address'.

Errr...WTF!

You expect me to respond from the dead email address, which no one can access, because it no longer fucking exists, which is why i'm contacting you in the first place, you fucking imbeciles.

Doom Loop incoming.

...thats what i used to raise the issue.

And they didn't fix the issue? That sucks.
When you say that email address no longer exists, do you mean the service provider has gone away completely? Or you just lost access to it?

Wow...fucking wow.

Just got this from them...

'Thank you for reaching out.

We have investigated your request but have been unable to verify that it is being made by the owner of the Rockstar Games account. If you have any further information we could use to investigate, or any other questions, please let us know.

..and they closed the support ticket on me.

I know your pain, sometimes is impossible to explain to them the absurdity of the situation, and they can always hide themselves on the "we reviewed and found nothing, resolving" type of response

If you value your time it's probably cheaper just to rebuy the game on whatever email you want.

The problem is they need some way to verify your account is you, they can't just change someone's email address because they are asked for obvious reasons.

I now have $250 of Rockstar games just...gone, forever.

...and I can never again buy any Rockstar games through my Steam account as I'll run into the same cockblocking roadblock.

What a fucking joke this digital only future has become.

Same thing happened to me with my JP PSN account, nearly a grand in games gone. Made me a physical media firstguy after that experience.

You can't even do that because the account is linked to Steam. So unless you make a new Steam you can't. Truly the most fucked up system I have ever seen. I cannot believe Rockstar hasn't fixed this shit at this point, but they have zero respect for PC gamers. Someone had to literally serve them legal letters to get them to help them. They are such a shit company.

OP, I just didn't play Rockstar games for like a year. I kept trying and trying and trying. Wish I remembered a step by step of what I did to fix it, but I'll do my best to help you because their so called support sure as hell won't. I essentially said my account was compromised. Just tell them that you no longer have access to X email. If you select all the right options they're going to ask you to provide cd keys of gta, your steam ID, etc. Then they'll ask for receipts which you can't provide because you don't have access to the fucking email (and yes it has to be receipts from the email you can't access even though you'll start with saying you don't have access). I'm sure there's other things they'll ask for, but once they've wasted all of your time they'll finally ask you to provide them with the date that the Rockstar account was created. This is the last step.

To do this you need to go back to your purchase history with grand theft auto on Steam. This is just a big guessing game but you're going to provide the date on your purchase of GTA V or the game in which you started your Rockstar account with, but it'll likely be GTA V. If you guess wrong just keep trying. Make a new ticket if you have to.

I would use an LLM like Grok or ChatGPT to help with this because there are tons of people out there that have gone through this. I imagine they'd be able to put everything down nicely step by step on what to do. If you have to sue their asses and take them to small claims court they'll more than likely cave. Get a real attorney though don't go through an AI when serving their ass. Hope it doesn't come to that.

Whatever you do, DON'T BUY THE GAMES AGAIN. You already bought access to the licenses and they are the ones in the wrong blocking you through their broken systems. Don't support these companies that have zero respect for you as a customer. I'm not even buying GTA6 after all my time they've wasted. Zero hype for it, still have such a bad taste from what they put me through. I am getting mad just making this post lol

The same thing happened to my Battlenet account. Lost it years ago. Support was totally useless.

The guy closed the ticket because he did not want to close your life...
Joel M. = Joel Miller my dude so you better think twice about sending the reply you wrote insulting his daughters, both biological and adoptive.

Jokes aside good luck with this i hope you'll manage to find a way out f this situation !

What happens if you email your old address? Do you get a bounce back? Is it in use by someone else? Could you reactivate it or appeal to the IT support of whoever the provider is?

It was an Email address provided by my old ISP, which I left in 2015.

The Email address remained useable until 2017, at which point it was deactivated, which was their standard procedure after leaving them.

There is simply no way of accessing it in 2025.

It seems weird that Rockstar have a "if you've lost access to your email address" support page - I'd open a new ticket and make sure that you've definitely selected all the right options (edit: the link defaults to losing access to 2fa, not email) and if that still goes nowhere consider doing this:

If the isp still exists, contact them and explain the situation.

They could presumably temporarily create an email address that you could use for validation in order to move the account elsewhere. I imagine it's not unheard of.

If they don't exist but have been bought by another isp, you could try them and see if they can help.

Good luck!

Unless you are trying to play Online GTA5 just crack the games to bypass DRM. You can get GTA5 Online on Epic Games for $10 during a sale and make another account. Technically you can get it with just their own launcher but it will cost $30 and you will need to make another account. Steam may have unique game licenses that you can document in correspondence.

PC gaming.
I have a family Square Enix Final Fantasy XIV account lost in the PSN ether due to their bullshit account linking system and absolute asinine customer support.

PC gaming.

This is not unique to PC gaming. I lost an old iTunes account with a shit ton of stuff because the email address it was linked to was an old work one that I no longer had access to.

Linking a work email to personal stuff is pretty stupid in hindsight, I haven't made that mistake again.

I've decided, as they say, that the juice simply isnt worth the squeeze.

All i really wanted to do was download GTA V to mess around modding it, but i can just go to my private members only scene release forum and download a copy of the game from there, as well as every other fucking Rockstar game i could wish for.

What pisses me off more than losing use of my 5 legitimately purchased Rockstar games is just how easy it is for a multi billion corporation to fuck their customers off and wash their hands of it all.
