Signature Cocktails for each U.S. State.

Current State: Connecticut

How could it be the signature drink, if it is only served on one place.......

The fuck.

Several states, they did that. Like the NC one is made in one bar in Raleigh. Never heard of it before, but I think this is just Buzzfeed being Buzzfeed.

Never had. D: lol

Had a feeling NJ would be something apple based. Glad to see I was right. Not the biggest cocktail drinker, but might attempt to make some of these in the far future.

Those pictures and recipes make NO sense.

I've lived in Austin for many years and have never had a Mexican Martini that looked like that, or was using that recipe.

The Cape Codder for MA? What a joke. For a state that has such a rich history in distilling and mixology... You get the teenager's go-to-get-drunk-and-don't-taste-alcohol bull shit.

Bull shit beverage.

They quit on MA.

The Chicago Fizz makes no sense to me... Egg Whites?

Egg whites are often used in mixing... Adds a frothiness to the drink that's awesome.

What the hell is a Moscow Mule? NY's should have been the Manhattan.

Delicious, but given the heritage of cocktail creations from NY this isn't the best choice by a long shot.

Their choice for my state, California, I get. Though not as popular as it was in the 60's the Mai Tai is classic.

Drink: Lynchburg Lemonade (Jack Daniel’s whiskey, Triple sec, sweet & sour, and Sprite)

Eh, not bad. I figured it would be a whiskey sour derivative.

The only good cocktail is the Old Fashioned.

Drink: The High and Dry (Mandarin Vodka, Triple Sec)
Why?: During the prohibition era, Phoenix featured a “secret bar” behind a bookshelf in the Arizona Biltmore, where “every self-respecting gentleman” had access to a decent highball.

Ok, so I didn't know this about the Biltmore:

Check the link as found behind the "featured" text above: http://www.phoenixmag.com/lifestyle/history/201311/clandestine-cocktails/

They recommend following @ArizonaBiltmore on twitter for clues on how to get into the Speakeasy room. They only allow 30 guests from 8-11pm on Sundays. I now have a new activity on Sunday evenings.

That is not a fucking sazerac. Ice, no bitters...wtf.

This is a fucking sazerac:

Goddamn buzzfeed.

No.

Embury's Sazerac from The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks ('48) is basically as they've said. Crushed ice, rye whisky, Peychaud's and a glass rinsed with absinthe.

Yeah, that's a sazerac, I dont know what the haters be on about. Rye Whyskey Peychauds and Absinthe.
Edit: Or are the deniers saying the pic doesn't correspond to the drink? I can see that.

That, and no ice. (The ingredients are correct.)

Stet, you sure Embury says the ice goes in the drink? Some call for crushed ice to set in the glass but it is tossed before the absinthe rinse.

Michigan
Drink: The Golden Cadillac (Creme de cacao (white), Vodka, Galliano, blueberries, water, sugar, and lemon juice)
Why?: While the cocktail was created in California, it’s famed name (Cadillac, of the Motor City origin) and taste has made it a popular beverage in many bars in Michigan.

Are you kidding me? I've lived in Michigan my entire life and have never seen anyone drinking that garbage in any bar I've been to. SMH.

That isn't a picture of a sazerac.

Embury says to strain it.

Fill a small Old-Fashioned glasses with finely crushed ice and set aside to chill. Put into pre-chilled bar glass or pitcher for each drink:

1 teaspoonful Sugar Syrup (we use 1/2t rich syrup)
3 dashes Peychaud Bitters
2 to 2.5 ounces Whisky (2oz Old Overholt, or rye whisky of choice. Cognac can also be substituted)
Stir with large ice cubes until thoroughly chilled. Empty the Old-Fashioned glasses. Put 1 dash of abisnthe in each glass and twirl glasses until the inside is thoroughly rinsed with the absinthe, throwing out any excess liquid. Strain liquor into the chilled and rinsed glasses. Twist of strip of lemon peel over each drink and drop into glass for decoration (we discard the peel after releasing the oils for aesthetic reasons). Serve with a glass of ice water on the side as a chaser.

There is no bar in New Orleans that serves it with ice. Clisby's version (Famous New Orleans drinks and how to Mix Em, 1937) also states strain.

If that drink had any Peychaud's in it, it would red.

As reference, I bartended in the Quarter for 3-4 years and learned under the guy who won New Orleans Mixologist of the year, 2013.

Edit: Oh, nice. Here is Steven showing how to make a sazerac, just how I learned.

Ahh, I remembered the ice wrong.

If anyone is looking into the Moscow Mule but doesn't particularly like vodka, there is also the Kentucky Mule which substitutes bourbon. Very good.

As someone living in West River SD...this is true.

You're the first SoDak-GAFfer I've seen besides my (now banned) former roommate that got me onto gaf.

Born in Rapid. Left and came back from age 20 to 28. Out in Atlanta now where 2 inches of snow shut the entire city down. The only time I ever not had to go to work in Rapid was in 2008 we had that day where it was -30 and the city said fuck it, its too cold. Never had a snow day.

West River Represent ::hears another trailer/meth lab explode over in Box Elder::

Oh and you know that Rapid is basically run by 3 families? Deep pockets yo.

The storm here in back in this October was nuts; Rapid (where I live) got two feet of snow, but Deadwood/Lead got 4 feet in one go. Pennington County and a few others imposed travel bans. Roads didn't get cleared for days, my friends were without power for over a week, killed only god knows how many heads of cattle. That was a Black Hills-wide snow day, if not days. I'm a native of Nebraska, so it wasn't as big of shock as my brand-new-to-SoDak-from-SoCal roommate had, lol.

More like Best River though. Because if that meth lab explodes, might as well have a prettier backdrop. Who the fuck wants to see that explode in Aberdeen or Watertown?

It doesn't surprise me in least, to be honest.

I'd say I want this done for Canada but I'm positive they'd cheap out and say the Toronto for Ontario and the Sour Toe for the Yukon neither of which are remotely popular.
