"Silent Hill" - Afterparty Discussion Thread ***SPOILERS***

I saw the movie over the weekend. I didn't see what was so bad about it. 7/10 sounds about right. The critics on rotten tomatoes really slammed it though.

Welcome aboard! I'm glad to see a lot of people liked it, I really do. Normally I would only care for my opinion and not give a damn how much it makes, but I really want a sequel.

Here's another one, MGS2 shows Snake with the Bandana and Stealth suit, which he earned in two completely different endings of MGS1. Otacon being alive would indicate the "Otacon" ending... but now that Meryl is alive in MGS4, it would seem to imply the "Meryl" ending. Which one is real? That's up to you.

Otacon lives in both endings. We already had this discussion back when MGS2 came out. :D

M:I3 is going to miss that mark by a wide shot ... it only had 17 million on Monday. Which is a disspointment, it was actually damn entertaining. JJ Abrams is fantastic. Plus, there were a bunch of LOST easter eggs in it :)

SH did around 1.3 million... so I suspect it will meet estimates at around 4 million. Should top off around 45-46 million.

radha mitchell is gonna be on spike tv this wednesday at 9, i saw a commercial for it last night

I saw it, she was playing poker or something. :lol

And I'm satisfied with Silent Hill's box office so far... could have been a lot worse. Also, yeah, Mission Impossible III was freakin' awesome and I wish it would have made more, but who knows, it just opened.

Really?, I only know the one in the credits.

Off the top of my head, a couple minor characters had roles in it (like the Pilot from episode 1 was at the party, the fake name given to Ethan was Kelvin (the name of the guy in the hatch with Desmond), The Hanso Foundation being mentioned in the credits, etc. I think there was another tiny one or two, but it slips my mind right now

Nice. It should top at 46 millions. Add the international BO and regular DVD sales, rent, UMD sales (I bet its coming to it) plus the inevitable Collectors Edition DVD and you got yourself a sequel

YAY!

I don't know, I personally liked actually having to think about the story, rather than having it all hand fed to me. Out of every horror movie that's been released in the past, oh, 15 or 20 years, none have provided the after discussion quality that Silent Hill presented. I know a lot of people had beef with the plot and the writing, but I've personally had tons of great discussion concerning it, both here and on other boards.

I had no problems with the pacing. I'm sure you probably thought it was slow, but I'm glad a lot of the scenes in the movie "took their time." I hate it in movies when it just goes from scene to scene in the blink of an eye, especially when I'm enjoying looking at it. I just thought it felt like Silent Hill and the cinematography was beautiful. I'm not implying the movie was perfect -- hell no -- the script could have been somewhat more polished, some of the acting was drab (but not too much or too often, imo), but for a videogame adaptation that I thought could never possibly be even remotely halfway decent, I was satisfied.

I personally didn't care for the changes to the cult, and I HATED Alessa's exposition scene. They really should've rewritten the script so that Christopher finds out the histroy of Silent Hill.

I'm wondering how they would handle a sequel. I think most fans would love a story close to SH2 but I'm afraid there are too many questions left after this movie to leave it alone. I guess Gans could just leave that story till SH3 but...

Nah, one of the best things about the movie was how helpless Boromir was. I don't think they should of bothered explaining anything. Or perhaps developed Dahlia(?)'s character a bit more.

No, like I've always said, Rose should have found a VHS tape lying around, and then a VCR, on which she watched that part, minus the "I'm explaining this to you" stuff.

About the ending and the different theories regarding the fate of Rose and Sharon, I just watched the scene in the church and these are Rose's own words:

Why don't you tell them the truth, tell them the truth that you deny even to yourself? There was no apocalypse. You burned in the fire that you started and nothing can save you cause you're already damned.

You are alone in this limbo, and God is not here.

How can Cybil, Rose and Sharon enter a limbo, and interact with people that are dead, if they are not dead as well? Then again, Dahlia survived the fire and she somehow ended up inside that limbo as well, perhaps she killed herself?

Don't take it literally. Rose was the one saying the dialogue, and if she was dead, which I don't think she was, she doesn't know it. Neo was also in limbo at one point in Matrix, but he wasn't dead. It's just used as a term to describe another existence outside of the real world.

Looks like Silent Hill is coming to Blu-Ray on August 22!

Wow... that box art sucks ass!

August huh..... that's almost late enough to buy, then wait for PS3....

More details!

The Silent Hill DVD will feature the following bonus materials:

Path of Darkness: Six Silent Hill Theatrical Filming Production Diaries

Part One: Origins of Silent Hill

Part Two: Casting the film

Part Three: Building Silent Hill (the town)

Part Four: Stars and Stunts

Part Five: Creature Choreography

Part Six: Constructing the Creepy Creatures from the film

It'll be made available on DVD, UMD and Blu-Ray. And I might end up buying all the versions! The SH collector in me demands it!

Now that I think of it, the box art is not so bad. Its just that the Blu-Ray blue stripe makes it look god awful!

Sounds awesome. Can't wait to see this thing on Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. Whichever one prevails. :lol

But the cover should've had Sean Bean on it with the bottom saying "One Does Not Simply Walk Into Silent Hill"

I was hoping for alternate endings damnit. It's not Silent Hill otherwise :(

I was hoping for "exclusive footage" of SH5... or even Origins!!! WTF!

They'll probably release a "Ultimate Collector Edition Uncut" thing when SH5 launches though...

It actually has more content than I thought it would... and you guys expecting alternate endings on this DVD, Gans said a few times that the first release would just be a "bare-bones."

You're more likely to see trailers for Switch and Cheaper By The Dozen 2 on the disc than anything pertaining to the games..... As an owner of several game movie DVDs I know not to get my hopes up for any relevant special features.

Sure, you might see a puff piece on SH, mentions that it's based on "the hit game series!", with clips from the movie. Nothing to get excited about.

I don't think you'll be seeing it in HD-DVD since it's from Sony Pictures

Saw it a couple of days ago and I'm pretty satisfied. It would be interesting to see an adaptation of Silent Hill 2 in the future
with more Pyramid Head!

Heck, they should make Pyramid Head: The Movie *awaiting photoshops*

$47 million domestic box office... right on what I predicted :)

I expectt around ~$20 million in the remaining international markets still left, so in the end, it can crawl itself to $100 million globablly... On par with Resident Evil 1.

Expecting big DVD sales, we'll see a nice profit and most likely a sequal guarenteed.
