Silent Hill HD Collection Xbox 360 Patch Cancelled

Wait, you're saying MS should take responsibility for whatever fallout there is over a 3rd party company? What?....
Why not? It's their walled garden they ask people to subscribe to. It's a set of publishers and developers they approve and then get money from, first, to work on the platform and, second, to sell on the platform. Why shouldn't they take an active interest in the very small number of current publishers and developers on their platform? To me, that's a fair way to handle the level of sole control they exert as well as the level of direct and final curation they are responsible for. The customer's experience should be their responsibility, especially as they profit from it. No different than any other platform holder should be viewed, IMO, but lots of people are willing to let them be stain-free with these types of situations.

I'm not saying they are to blame, under the current accepted rules, but their decisions ultimately negatively impact their shared customer playing approved games on their platform.

I believe you can submit the first patch twice for free.
Third time must not have been the charm.

Than they better not cancel any patches for those too.

That is the part that rubs me the wrong way. They work on a patch for MGS4 that doesn't even need it and devote all these company resources to it, yet they won't spend money and devote resources to a game that they released in an unfinished state.

When patching the mentality should go:

Newly released broken game > 4 year old perfectly working game

Well that's why you vote with your wallets. I wanted to buy the game till I saw how buggy it was. I sure as hell am not going to buy it now that I see that it's A. not going to be fixed and B. They're actually having the nerve to pimp the game in their release that is saying fuck you we're not going to fix this broken piece of shit.

Is there anything to support/suggest that Konami even bothered to submit a patch to MS or are people talking out of their asses?

Hell, have they even released any patches for the 360 version? I'm guessing no, but as ever, I love to be proven wrong.

The way it's worded, it sounds more like Konami don't want to put a team together to work on a 360 patch at all. It almost sounds like they want this game behind them and move on.

And why wouldn't they want to move on? The game has been a complete disaster for them from the day it shipped, so it's not surprising they want to move on and try to forget it even exists. I'm surprised they even bothered to do a PS3 patch.

True, but post patch PS3 > vanilla 360.

Yeah, it certainly seems that way. Hopefully we don't see a trend begin with patches being denied or affected by apprehension due to cost on the 360. This and the recent deal with Fez do raise an eyebrow.

Didn't Ghostbusters on 360 have a broken achievement for an extended period of time for a similar reason, well after the PS3 version was patched?

EDIT: Just found that Ghostbusters patch info. A year and change after the PS3 fix.

Hopefully this will convince more people on the fence to avoid buying this defective product. Provided there's still people on the fence, of course. Konami seemed intent on doing everything within its power to fuck this collection up in every conceivable way.

Thanks a lot assholes.

At least ZoE looks to be on track and won't be a repeat of this abortion.

That'll be the last Konami game for me though, will take something special to lure me back for MGS5.

Because they don't want to lose those that have bought the collection or have some interest into the Franchise or any game produced by that company?

Shitting on the fans with such a cheap of an apology is not the way to go if you are already a struggling company.

Fez, always forgotten.

I still can't believe port of this quality ever made it to store shelves. I feel bad for those who bought it :(

Oh yeah I forgot about Fez. That didn't even happen that long ago lol. But yeah I remember being excited to go through this again in HD and while I shrugged off most of the issues that it had when I got to the boat to cross the lake I wanted to throw up. So dissappointing.

Konami isn't struggling. Their business is quite profitable and in the console division 360 owners are way down the flagpole when it comes to income sources. They make most of their money from mobile/casual stuff.

I was going to wait till this went on sale because I wanted to play-through 2 again and I hadn't finished 3 ever, but now I guess I just won't bother. Does the PS3 patch improve things enough?

Than let's say console division if you like. I don't want them to use their profitable business to finance things that don't get any love from themself. P* will likely put mroe love into Rising than they could.

I agree, but if we're brutally honest, the game sold like shit and most of the people it did affect either sold the game on, returned it or simply drew on untold reserves of strength and played it through it in its broken state. And to carry this on, If there's any series it could happen to, it's better it happen to SH.(as much as it pains me to say it), the series is dying a slow death, it's becoming more and more irrelevant, I really don't know why Konami just don't shelve it for the foreseeable future, or maybe that's why they released SH HD in the state they did, hoping it would serve as the nail in the coffin for the series.

I don't believe it will impact their bottom line too much though, MGS HD showed that SH HD was a blip and I'm sure ZoE HD will be as good, if not better than MGS HD. People will be back for MGS5 and ZoE3.

ROFL

fucking konami man

what a fucking company LOL

Im laughing my ass off here haha who runs this shit some dude in a gimp outfit with a monkey on his shoulder?

Hmm, you seem a little too close to the problem to comment LOL

BTW, that is just bad.....

Now go make us a Suikoden VI already will ya.

I didn't read the whole thread so apologies if this was already debunked, but maybe Konami can't fix the stuff that needs fixing within the maximum patch size allowed by MS. Isn't it 5MB or something? Not very much. How big was the patch on PS3?

Patch size isn't limited any more. Or maybe there is a limit, but it's no longer 5mb.

Even with their console/handheld division almost everything else brings in more income than the 360. 360 only accounts for 12% of their income. PS3 gets lots of love because that is where their bread and butter is.

I can't really agree with this at all as I think it would create a precedent for any publisher to either push the blame on the platform holder or at least include them in the blame.

I agree with you that their certification process needs to be changed/updated, but as far as I understand it, many of their rules are so the consumer has a more consistent and error free experience. Anything else beyond their own rules to have games on their own system should be entirely handled by the publisher and their consumer. Mixing the platform holders into these PR politics would do no good IMO.

Third time must not have been the charm.

We don't even know if they tried to submit it once.

Silent Hill HD Collection is available at retail stores nationwide

They really put a plug at the end of a press release where they admit that their game will never be fixed on 360?

Konami, you so crazy!

Silent Hill 2 is one of my top 5 games of all time and the only reason I didn't buy this at launch was because I read how busted it was.

Please change your mind Konami...I'm literally begging to give you money.

All I've heard is that its less leggy and running animations are better, but its still an ugly mess with plenty more issues to fix. IE its being treated as a final patch yet there's still plenty of problems not addressed.

I can't wait for next gen with DRM to prevent used game sale and digital game future where you can at least resell the garbage like this to recoup your lost.

This probably is due to a combination of factors that prevent it from being economically wise to continue with the port. High patch cost plus low performance improvement, in addition to team resources, etc.

Konami: "Well, the game didn't sell that well, so I guess gamers don't want more Silent Hill. We tried, but they weren't there for us."

I'm being funny, but you know that's how they're seeing things.

That's how they'll spin it because there's such an overwhelming disconnect between the creative/technical sector of these companies and the business department.

I don't know who deserves more blame here, Konami or Microsoft.

Huh? I am not one to defend MS and their shitty certification process and what not, but how can there ever be any question that this is Konamis fault? They released a completely unfinished product that was worse than what it was supposed to be a HD version of, based on a unfinished version of the games (lol), then they go out to promise patches that never comes and the ones that did come (for ps3) didn't really fix close to the amount of problems it should.

Wasn't Hijinx Studios also partially responsible for the port failure? I don't know how much contribution they gave into porting the game or what role(s) Hijinx was given so idk.

A little Off-Topic, but:

Does anyone know how much problems were fixed for the PS3 vers? I know it fixed some/very little problems but I'd like to know exactly how much? I'd consider buying the HD game if I feel that the fixes are bearable. I'm scared for my money after seeing this (which I found hilarious)

Hijinx is the developer that made the HD Collection, they are of cause partially responsible as well. But primarily it's Konami for a) choosing a developer to make the port who apparently isn't capable of doing a proper port and b) releasing the game in such a horrible state

Both games have still problems after the patch, but the patch was a significant improvement.
The fog is improved and +- comparable to the PC version, voice sync issues are fixed, performance is at least in SH2 ok, ridiculous scenes like the the one with Maria in the park where you could see the end of the level is fixed and properly foggy and all in all, there's not much broken or completely terrible in SH2 anymore.
The boat scene is slightly better but still not very good and the strange changes like the darker road texture are unchanged.
SH2 HD could be better, but it's playable and ok in my opinion.
SH3 HD has unfortunately more problems. fps are in some few areas unstable (stays playable, but is noticeable slower), the depth of field effect is missing and issues with shadows so they look blocky.
Bearable and playable as well but in need of an additional patch to be on par with the PS2 version.

I will purchase another Konami game when issued with a full & frank refund + apology. In the unlikely event that they've anything of worth coming down the pike, there are more morally sound ways of playing them.

Looking back on it, the HD "collection" of only 2 and 3 was kind of a misstep regardless, even if it turned out okay. The PC versions are superior and the only reason I can even think of to get these would be for trophies or achievements and that's hardly a reason to buy a Silent Hill game in the first place. I'm not against it, it gives fans of those games more things to do in them I suppose, but $40 for high-res versions of only those two titles?

Just about the best thing they could have did was to release an HD collection featuring 2, 3, and 4 before Downpour released with a packed-in demo, a nice collector's edition package with some goodies, and sold that for $40. Any kind of "collector's" anything ought to be attractive and loaded with content, but all they did was release gimped versions of two games that are a decade old. I can understand why SH1 wasn't included as that would look like HD horse shit, but what about Silent Hill 4?

In my opinion the entire thing was a giant miss and that's not even including all these other issues. Konami has some phenomenal franchises under their belts and they need to support them better than this. Silent Hill is pretty popular, well known. A new movie is about to hit theaters in a few months. Downpour was good, barring technical issues. I like to think the series is better off than some let on, but then you think about this disaster and it's hard to defend it.

Instead of releasing bullshit statements concluding with "but you can still buy it anyway" they need to take a long look at just how roughly they've been jacking their consumers and try to do something about it. Some people bought the game on blind faith, no, on a promise from Konami themselves that their product would be fixed at some point, but at least they blatantly admitted that they just wanted to give up on it and not actually try, so there's something.

Huh. Konami.
What's going on with Konami?
