The Heather in the movie looks so basic and plain imo. Don't know which actress would be the most perfect for the role, though.
I think she looks fine, pretty cute even.

The stuff of nightmares.

^^^^COMBO BREAKER -____-

I don't like this Heather. The Heather in the video game looks better. I love her melancholic and sometimes creepy look.

I liked that too. But I really want to impregnate movie Heather, not sure if I got the qualities to make a God though.

Did any scenarist in Hollywood understand that "the town Silent Hill" is that corner of your mind in which are stored all your guilt and remorse.

It is? I don't remember Harry, Heather nor Henry being guilty of anything bad.
SH2 (and Homecoming and Downpour) story was about guilt and punishment, but that doesn't mean Silent Hill is all about that. The cult stuff that SH1, 3 and 4 deal with has nothing to do with that theme.

In this film it's their
fake family name. Chris use it to avoid the cult. So he becomes Harry Mason and he calls his daughter Heather Mason.

How does he even know about the cult? How does the cult know about him? Why is there a cult in a real world anyway when all the cultists were trapped in Alessa's nightmare and most (all?) of them were barb-wire raped killed by Alessa? Why does the movie even try to use Halo of the Sun and the Seal of Metatron when the first movie used its own symbol (that weird cross)? So many questions!

While that's true, it is worth noting:

The cult stuff isn't anywhere near as interesting as the guilt/punishment stuff.

My guess is that it's like... a reboot/sequel situation maybe? Kinda follows off of the events from the first film but actually is standalone? Kinda like The Incredible Hulk.

I won't argue with that ;)
But it was interesting in SH2 because it was so well done (especially how the whole game was build around that theme) and because it was something fresh (after the cult and demon stuff in SH1 anyway). However, the theme looses its freshness when you expect the main character being guilty of something and that the town is punishing her/him for it.

Heather always looked like a drug addict to me haha

And I'm assuming they will explain how heather
escaped silent hill but the mom remained. I could have sworn both were still in the otherworld at the end of the first movie.

The couple things that Michael J Bassett is geting right for this is having there be an original score. The first film was practically designed with a greatest hits selection in mind and it killed a lot of potential tension/eeriness.

Shaping up, I have to say. I was skeptical, but if they got Sean Bean to come back then it's gotta be at least watchable. I had my doubts, but it really does seem like an extension of the first movie (good thing IMO.) Great visuals, Sean Bean is back, it's following up on the story, Jon Snow's in it... very hopeful that this will turn out well.

I wonder how they're going to change the whole cult thing. In SH games, the cult is satanic cult. In SH3, they're trying to birth Samael, a demonic entity.

However, if you've seen the 1st Silent Hill film, you know that they change the whole cult business. In the film they are just
overzealous religious nutcase who burnt a kid because they are afraid that she is evil. But they are not satanic cult. They worship the usual God, albeit in a twisted kind of way. So what reason would they have to raise Samael or any demonic entity in this one?

I suppose you're right. Interesting question.

But wasn't there some notion in the games that they thought they were worshipping a good deity, while actually worshipping an evil one? Seems to me, easy to use the same idea in the movie.

But of course, in the movie, they could change this completely, or avoid it altogether.

Anyone interested in seeing a real Silent Hill movie, watch Jacob's Ladder.
That's pretty much what the game was inspired by. So yes.

The cinematography is too slick and vivid, needs higher grain and lower color saturation.
You are quite right. Should be shot on 16mm, really.

But I can't help but think: if that's the level of criticism we're gonna apply to this film, it's already doomed.

IIRC the reason Alessa was burnt in the first movie was because she was a bastard (her father was unknown) which was a huge sin according to the cult. That change of cult's role really screwed the storyline for the sequel.

I suppose the reason they want Heather to return to Silent Hill in this movie is to finally kill her off completely (and thus defeat the devil she made a pack with) or make her kill the demon Alessa (and end the nightmare). That still doesn't resolve how could anyone capture Christopher, when everyone who knew about the cult is stuck in the misty Silent Hill.

It's been a while since i last played Silent Hill 3, but i wouldn't call it straight up satanic.
I mean if you remember the creation myth, in the game it's not something you'd call Satan, that they are waiting to lead them to Paradise.
Infact, they refer to her as God, no less.
Samael was in SH1, IIRC.

Wasn't the final straw her
being raped or sexually assaulted by the janitor? It's been a while since I last watched it, but I vaguely remember her running into the toilet with the janitor and then it cutting to her being driven to the cults HQ or maybe that was just a scene to show why she punished the janitor.

Hm... that too. I think that was the reason why they thought they had to "purge" her.

But she run into the janitor because other kids were picking on her. And in that flashback Christabella asked Dalhia "why don't you tell us who is the father?". And since I doubt Dalhia fucked a devil, I think Alessa being a bastard was the only reason other kids bullied her.

BTW. Why do we use spoiler tag for a movie that was released 6 years ago and is now getting a sequel?

Yeah,
i definitely agree that she didn't bone a devil. That seems too 'out there'. And yep, she was being bullied as she was considered to be a bastard/different. No doubt the parents doing.

Honestly, I don't know...some can be really pissy about these things. Still, I'm sure those who didn't watch the first wouldn't be interested in this, so spoilering is probably not needed.

Like the first movie it seems like we will see shit we haven't seen in other horror flicks (though the games surely but obviously not realised to this standard). Awesome visuals. Day one.
